Traces of Time . . . June 5-11, 2023

 TRACES OF TIME . . .

"Time moves slowly, but passes quickly."
“The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

{Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.} On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and posterity to come.

   Our Wednesday night movie was:

"THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR" 1947

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947)

Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz

"Ghostly romances aren’t terribly common on this list, outside of entries that you’d expect to find such as the titular Ghost, but there are a few of merit. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir stands out as a classic ’40s romantic fantasy, following a young widower who moves with her young daughter into a seaside home, where she meets the cantankerous, rough-around-the-edges ghost of its former sea captain owner. Slowly, a most unlikely romance blooms between the two, as our protagonist (Gene Tierney) uses the life experiences of the captain (Rex Harrison) to write a best-selling memoir. It’s all fairly straightforward, replete with the kinds of “misunderstandings” and false starts you’d expect in most romances of the period, but Harrison is rather dashing as Captain Gregg, and the bittersweet ending is the stuff of Golden Age Hollywood glitz and glamor. It’s an excellent “ghost movie” for date night, provided you’re dating a historical film buff. —Jim Vorel"

Quotes by Sheri Dew

are always insightful...

"Life is a test. It is only a test--meaning that's all it is. Nothing more, but nothing less. It is a test of our convictions and priorities, our faith and faithfulness, our patience and resilience, and in the end, our ultimate desires. It is a test to determine if we want to be part of the kingdom of God more than we want anything else."
Sheri Dew
The answers to the test are found in "The Gospel of Jesus Christ"...

Mix a little foolishness with your prudence;                     it's good to be silly at the right moment.
Horace

Walt told me several times that

he hoped Heavenly Father had

a sense of humor.  In fact, he

thought that He did.

When we were with someone

who said something outlandish,

Walt would glance at me, then

give me a wink...letting me know

he always had my back.

Sure do love that guy.

Looking forward to being

with him again some day

in heaven. But not

for a while. ~ ~ ~

Here's some of my fun remembrances

of him...

June 1961--We'd been married for a week.

Walt worked with his carpenter Dad to earn

money to buy the gas to get back to

St. Louis, where we headed the next week.

We considered it our honeymoon as we

drove through Yellowstone Park, staying

overnight in a cabin and sightseeing half a

day.

Our first Christmas - 1961

We strung popcorn to decorate

our tree.

St. Louis -- 1962

One night before finals Walt

piled up his medical books

and said he just had to go

through that many books

before morning.

He chewed on licorice

while he studied.

 Rendezvousing -- Steve took me

to J.Dwags for supper.

'then we went to see

The Little Mermaid

The film is dedicated to the late Howard Ashman, who co-produced and co-wrote the songs from the original film.

The Little Mermaid premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on May 8, 2023,[5] and was released in the United States on May 26. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances of the cast and the musical sequences but criticized the visual effects and character designs. The film has grossed over $414 million worldwide against a total production budget of $250 million.

Steve said at the end:

"I didn't know I would

like it this much."

I really liked it, too!

We both thought the

cinematography was

amazing and beautiful.

"...my Grace is suffieient..."
Daily Scripture: And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them. - Ether 12:27
Daily Quote: As we humble ourselves and exercise faith in Jesus Christ, the grace of Christ and His infinite atoning sacrifice make it possible to change. - Kevin S. Hamilton

This is an interesting quote

about death:

* *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this

 Great Plan operational.
At the end of this June 11th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
Daily Scripture: Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. - Matthew 25:13
Daily Quote: More than ever before, we are required to confront the reality that we are getting ever closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. - Christoffel Golden

I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.

The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.
