Traces of Time . . .
(To see last week's blog post--scroll down to the end of this week, then
the Week of January 20-26, 2020 will be there.
If it's not, hit "Older Posts." at the bottom right.)
THIS WEEK-
JANUARY 27-February 2, 2020

NEW YEAR OF 2020
PLUS BEGINNING THE DECADE
OF 2020 TO 2029...

Family is Everything...
We went to our podiatrist today.
  Dr. Scott Rogers at the
Foot & Ankle Clinic here in
Saratoga Springs takes good
care of our feet.
Family Home Evening was
at the Fletchers tonight.
They had a special gluten-free menu.
Jennie felt that was very thoughtful
of them to do for her.
The gals also loved the hand-embroided
table cloth that Nadine had from her sister.
We all sang "Happy Birthday" to Dean.
...and many more.
 We are learning about
"Becoming Spiritually Centered"
from the seminars by James Cox.
(Nadine is sending me the photo of the group.)
Front: L-R--Eileen, Jennie, Allen, Sharon, Howard.
Second row: Linda, Leslie.
Standing in back: Nadine, Dean.
Andrew took the photo.
Judy had to leave before the photo was taken.
She doesn't like to leave Cliff home alone
for very long. She says he has good
days and not-so-good days.
Nadine took this photo so Andrew
could be in it. He is standing by his Dad.
We enjoy learning together how to
"become more spiritually centered."

Family is Everything...
Marci came to help
Walt start his day
INSTITUTE
The lesson was on Chapters 22-23
Saints
covered hard times for the Saints
in Kirtland, Ohio.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
What they said...
Joseph had a lot to do...
                                              He did...
The Lord will not let the Prophet
                               lead us astray...
Apostles - 1837 and 2020
APOSTLES - IN 1837 AND TODAY - 2020
                                           You can do it!
                                     "...hold fast to what you
                                                already know..."
We love our Institute teacher,
Camie Williams.
We all learn how to apply the
past lessons of Church History
to our daily life--here and now.
Heather, thanks for taking my photo.
We all learn a lot and
are inspired from each class.
 John watches out for us.
He helped program my new
cell phone and put in all
my contacts.
This is the first photo I
took on the new phone.
Thanks, John.

Family is Everything...
Julie drove me to the DMV to get
my Utah driver's license...
Julie and Walt waited an hour
while I took the 25-question
open-book driver's written test.
I failed it by 1 point...
...have to come back another day.
Boo-hoo.

Family is Everything...
Marci came to help Walt
start his day.
  She is so kind...
  ...and helpful for Walt.
Word of the day that I had never heard before...
used on the Brett Bair Fox News broadcast about the
Impeachment Trial...saying something like
"...it was all kabuki today."
ka·bu·ki
/kəˈbo͞okē/n  noun

"a form of traditional Japanese drama with highly stylized song, mime, and dance, now performed only by male actors, using exaggerated gestures and body movements to express emotions, and including historical plays, domestic dramas, and dance pieces.

Family is Everything...
 Julie drove us to
the DMV today for me to
retake my open-book
written driver's test.
I just missed one today,
so I passed!~
Yea! Now I have a
Utah Driver's License.
Good-bye January,

                                 Hello February!

Family is Everything...
Marci came to help
Walt start his day.

It was forecast to be 50 degrees today.

Julie and Maddie were involved in the
Utah Dancesport Challenge
at Thanksgiving Point
this weekend.
Maddie and Ethan were in two
finals of Foxtrot.
Way to go!
Jacee is sad to miss competing with her team,
but her knee is on the mend two weeks
after surgery for a torn ALC and
a partially torn meniscus.
She will not be able to
do ballroom dancing for
several months.
We didn't do much today,
so I'm copying this recipe I
just saw on facebook.
Makes one 9-by-13 pan of brownies
Prep and Cook: 90 min. Cool: 1 hr.
1 c. margarine

1/2 c. cocoa

2 Tbsp. honey

4 eggs

2 c. sugar

1 3/4 c. flour

1/2 Tbsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1 c. chopped walnuts (or not....I don't like nuts in mine)

12 oz. chocolate icing (Use your own icing recipe or purchase some chocolate frosting. You can also search the Internet for chocolate icing recipes.)

Mint Icing
5 Tbsp. margarine

Dash of salt

3 Tbsp. milk

1 Tbsp. light corn syrup

2 1/3 c. powdered sugar

1/2 tsp. mint extract

1-2 drops green food coloring

1. Melt margarine and mix in cocoa. Allow to cool. Add honey, eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well. Add nuts. Pour batter into a greased 9-by-13 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool.
2. Prepare mint icing: Soften margarine. Add salt, corn syrup, and powdered sugar. Beat until smooth and fluffy. Add mint extract and food coloring. Mix. Add milk gradually until the consistency is a little thinner than cake frosting.
3. Spread mint icing over brownies. Place brownies in the freezer for a short time to stiffen the icing. Remove from the freezer and carefully add a layer of chocolate icing.
Oh, we did watch the exciting BYU vs Saint Mary's
Basketball game tonight...
What are "Gaels" anyway?
81-79 Cougar T.J. Haws
sinks a 3-pointer for the win
7 seconds before the buzzer!

Family is Everything...
Happy Palindrome Day...
I think the 900 or 909 years it says is not accurate.
...the word is "Palindrome" not "drone" at the end.
If you google "Palindrome dates," there are several.

Walt wasn't strong enough,
nor steady enough to go
to Church today.
Jackson blessed the Sacrament,
and John passed it to us today,
with the permission of our Bishop.
Thank you, Jackson and John.
We had Sunday dinner at five o'clock.

Thanks, Maddie, for taking our photo.
Steve and Natalie came at 5:30.
We didn't get a photo with them,
We loved talking with them about
Kimble and Carter, and I just
forgot to take a photo.

Here's a photo from the Church News
sometime between 1995-1998,
while we were serving as
Mission Leaders* in the
Mexico Merida Mission.
"In painting, Robert T. Barrett depicts
the Savior at the Second Coming.
Joseph received revelation
about the Second Coming,
found in D&C Section 133."
*Mission Leaders is what they
now put as the
"Mission President and
Wife of the Mission President"
in the Church News.

We are so thankful for The Plan of Salvation
and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ
that makes this Great Plan operational.
Conference Report
"Applying the Atoning Blood of Christ". November 1997

Neal A. Maxwell said:
Top of Form
Bottom of Form

“As He began to feel the awful weight of the approaching Atonement,
Jesus acknowledged, ‘For this cause came I into the world’ (John 18:37).

We too, brothers and sisters, came “into the world” to pass through our particularized portions of the mortal experience. Even though our experiences do not even begin to approach our Master’s, nevertheless, to undergo this mortal experience is why we too are here! Purposefully pursuing this “cause” brings ultimate meaning to our mortal lives.

And we are greatly helped if we enter with faith that pavilion of perspective
the plan of salvation.

Then the search for meaning is ended, even though further and resplendent discoveries await us.

Alas, as Church members we sometimes behave like hurried tourists, scarcely venturing beyond the entry point.

Next, as we confront our own lesser trials and tribulations, we too can plead with the Father, just as Jesus did, that we ‘might not … shrink’
meaning to retreat or to recoile… (D&C 19:18)

Not shrinking is much more important than surviving! Moreover, partaking of a bitter cup without becoming bitter is likewise part of the emulation of Jesus."

At the end of this February 2nd,
we pray you have had a restful , peaceful, and spiritual Sabbath Day...
We share these truths as our testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

I am thankful for a husband who holds and honors the Priesthood of God. He has been the patriarch of our home in righteousness. I honor and love him with all my heart. We are eternal sweethearts, sealed as husband and wife in the temple of God by Priesthood Authority for time and for all eternity.

Of these truths we testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
