Family is Everything…

We usually don't get up very early, so have a late breakfast.
  We enjoy being with Rigdon.
Just at sunset we went outside.
Walt wanted to go
for a walk. I didn't want to go
but it turned out to be a good thing.

 We felt really invigorated
when we finished the walk.

Tonight the big tree was decorated.
It's the tree they cut last Satutrday
in the hills of Idaho south of Burley.
  Rigdon said he loved putting
the ornaments on the tree.

We enjoyed it from the sidelines.
  Everyone did their part.
   Julie took photos.
    It didn't take long with
everyone helping.
Jacee also stood on the ladder.
  The Santa hats added a
festive touch as did the
Christmas music playing from Pandora.
  Rigdon also climbed the ladder.
  Riggy and Jacee
    Jackson is getting really tall.

John put hooks on the red ornaments.

Maddie is always a great helper.

Riggy adds more fun to everything.

   Ta-Da!
...a beautifully decorated
Christmas tree!

  Maddie read a Christmas
story to Riggy.
We loved being a part of
the tree-decorating tradition.

We ended the evening with all the
family taking turns reading from
the Book of Mormon.

Family is Everything…

We're out and about again...
We drove to the UofU Campus.
I had a 3-month follow-up appointment
with my Endocronologist for
a diabetes check.
Everything's pretty good.
Doctors seem to get
younger all the time.
Haven't seen or heard this word
for ages...had to get a photo.
Lunch at Corner Bakery and Cafe...

Walt like working at his desk now.
We love having our blue tree
in our cozy cottage.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2018
Family is Everything…
John has been climbing up to the roof to put the
red and white Christmas lights up there.
  We enjoy it when
Rigdon comes to see us.

I asked them both to smile.
We watched an interesting movie: "Walt Before Mickey."
It was made in 2015 and is on Netflix now.
After supper, we enjoyed watching "A Rockefeller Center Christmas" on NBC - the lighting of the
72-foot tall tree at Rockefeller Center.
This tradition started in 1931
when some workers put up a 20-foot tree.
It became an official tradition in 1932 or 1933.
It is being billed as the
86th lighting.
Since the Tree arrived on the Plaza two weeks ago, the Rock Center team has been hard at work preparing the 72-foot-tall Norway spruce for its big debut, and tonight they’ll be flicking the switch on the Tree’s 50,000 lights, as well as the new 9-foot-wide Swarovski Star designed by world-famous architect Daniel Libeskind.
The mayor of New York City hit the switch
to turn on the tree's 50,000 lights.
 The 9-foot-wide Swarovski Star...

Marci, CNA from Home Health

Looks like a nice November day outside.
Scott did physical therapy with Walt today.
Steve came by to take us to lunch.
We love being close to family now.
Thanks, Steve. We love being with you.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2018
Family is Everything…
We went on a walk with Rigdon and his friend.

They actually went further than we planned to go.
Oh, the energy of youth!
Then we drove to University of Utah campus
to the Madsen Health Clinic where
Walt saw his Internist who also
specializes in Geriatrics.
Here is her assistant doing a blood test.
We got back to Saratoga Springs
before the Friday Interstate traffic
got to "stop 'n go."
We shared a plate of yummy Chinese
food at Panda Express.
 Interesting fortunes... Mine:
"You will take an inspirational
journey to a far away place."
 Walt's fortune:
"Follow the advice of a
trusted friend this week."
Then we settled in to cheer the Utah Utes
on to a victory and their first trip to the Rose Bowl.
University of Utah is playing for the
PAC 12 Championship tonight.
Washington Huskies - season 9-3
Utah Utes - season 9-3
Ranking: Washington 11; Utah 17.
The winner will play in the Rose Bowl.
So sad...The Utes lost.
Washington 10 - Utah 3
On a much happier note...
When we got back home, we
discovered we had a "magic cottage."
 It looked even more Christmasy.
 Thanks, Julie!
It's been a great month, and we are thankful for all things!
Now, it's time to say...

Family is Everything…
Sibling Book Club choice for December...

Hi Everyone

I’ve chosen “Where the Wind Leads” for the December Book Club read. It is a compelling story of a refugee family from Vietnam. This book really moved me, and I found myself thinking about it several times a day while I was reading (listening to) it, and it has lingered in my mind in the weeks since I finished it.

The last chapter where the author summarizes his take-away from his family’s experience is especially poignant. It reminds me of David’s great  mantra of “there but by the Grace of God I go” and our responsibility to give back.

Hope you enjoy it. It’s not a Christmas story, but certainly has a message of the rescue, hope, and joy that Christ gives.

Kimble came to help with Rigdon.
Love the Christmas village they inherited from Grama A.
Where is the snow that's been predicted for several days?
Thanks, David, for coming to help us with Medicare
to try to get Medicare D for prescription coverage.
Kimble and Jackson, are not only cousins, but good friends.
BYU Winter Showcase of Pre-teen and Teen Ballroom Teams...
Jacee and Maddie will be performing today...
Maddie with some of her
Pre-Teen A Team that is
directed by her Mom, Julie Peterson.
Fun costumes for
Maddie's team.
More pre-teens...Maddie
Maddie, you were great!
Sisters...Maddie and Jacee
Jacee with some of her
Youth B1 Ballroom Team...
Jacee, in center, with friends.
Jacee with her Dad.
Jacee with her brother and sister.
Thanks to all involved.
We loved the
BYU Youth Dancesport Winter Showcase!
These two granddaughters are wonderful dancers!
Family who came to support them:
(I thought when Julie said they were going
out to get photos, that she meant the outer lobby.
So I hurried out so they wouldn't have to wait.
Gary came out to find me to say that were taking
photos just at the back of the seats,
so when we got back in he and I
had missed being in the photo.
Sorry, Gary, for making you miss the photo.
Thanks for coming to find me.

Family is Everything…
We were uplifted at Church today by the thirteen
testimonies that were shared.
The table is ready...
 John's final preparations...
 His favorite roast to cook
is Tri-Tip - so tender!
 We had tithing settlement with
Bishop Mardesich after dinner.
Walt is standing next to the Bishop.
(Walt used to be 6' tall, but when
they measured him Friday...he was
just 5'9".)
 John and Julie and family
also had tithing settlement.
 Trying for an enlarged photo...
And the predicted snow did come!
We woke up to lots of snow that stayed all day.
With the first snowfall of the season,
there has to be the first snowman.
 Maddie baked brownies
from scratch for a
Sunday evening treat.
Gary came with a treat, also.
He came to watch the
First Presidency Christmas Devotional
with us.  Thanks, Gary.
He borrowed a pair of his Dad's
cuff links and tie tack for a formal
dance next Friday at the State Capital.

The First Presidency Christmas Devotional
At Christmas devotional, President Nelson addresses 4 gifts from the Savior
"President Russell M. Nelson highlighted four gifts offered by Jesus Christ and promised that true followers of the Savior “have the privilege of experiencing unspeakable joy forever” during the First Presidency's Christmas Devotional on Sunday evening, Dec. 2.
The leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said he was recently reminded of the blessings that come from focusing on the life, mission, doctrine and Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ when he talked with 12-year-old Lydia Terry.
President Nelson met Lydia — who is suffering from a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer — a few weeks ago in his office. “As we talked about her life and what lies ahead, she was calm and at peace. When I asked if she had any questions, she quickly replied, ‘What is heaven like?’”
Read the full Church News article here.
Here is the ending of President Nelson's talk:
We will leave this with you tonight
instead of our regular testimony.
May you feel the testimony of our Living Prophet.
We testify that President Nelson is the Living Prophet
for the entire world at this time.
“What are your deepest desires? What do you really want to experience and accomplish in this life? Do you really want to become more and more like Jesus Christ? Do you really want to live with Heavenly Father and with your family forever and live as He lives?
“If you do, you will want to accept many gifts offered by the Lord to help you and me during our time of mortal probation.”
President Nelson then emphasized four of the gifts Jesus Christ gave to all who are willing to receive them:
1. Jesus Christ gives the unlimited capacity to love.
“That includes the capacity to love the unlovable and those who not only do not love you but presently persecute and despitefully use you,” said President Nelson. “With the Savior’s help, we can learn to love as He loved. It may require a change of heart —most certainly a softening of our hearts — as we are tutored by the Savior how to really take care of each other.
“My dear brothers and sisters, we can truly minister in the Lord’s way as we accept His gift of love.”
2. The Savior offers the ability to forgive.
“Through His infinite Atonement, you can forgive those who have hurt you and who may never accept responsibility for their cruelty to you,” said President Nelson.“It is usually easy to forgive one who sincerely and humbly seeks your forgiveness. But the Savior will grant you the ability to forgive anyone who has mistreated you in any way. Then their hurtful acts can no longer canker your soul.”
3. The Savior gives the gift of repentance.
“This gift is not always well understood,” he said, noting that the word repent comes from the Greek prefix meaning change. “Can we begin to see the breadth and depth of what the Lord is giving to us when He offers the gift to repent? He invites us to change our minds, our knowledge, our spirit, even our breathing.”
For example, “when we repent, we breathe with gratitude to God, who lends us breath from day today,” said President Nelson. “And we desire to use that breath in serving Him and His children. Repentance is a resplendent gift.”
It is a process never to be feared, he added. “It is a gift for us to receive with joy and to use — even embrace — day after day as we seek to become more like our Savior.”
4. The promise of life everlasting.
Eternal life is so much more than a designation of time, he explained. “Eternal life is the kind and quality of life that Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son live. When the Father offers us everlasting life, He is saying in essence, ‘If you choose to follow My Son — if your desire is really to become more like Him — then in time you may live as We live, and preside over worlds and kingdoms as We do.’”
President Nelson said the four unique gifts will bring Latter-day Saints more and more joy as they accept them. “They were made possible,” he said, “because Jehovah condescended to come to earth as the baby Jesus. He was born of an immortal Father and a mortal mother. He was born in Bethlehem under the most humble of circumstances. His was the holy birth foreseen by prophets since the days of Adam. Jesus Christ is God’s transcendent gift — the gift of the Father to all of His children. That birth we joyfully celebrate each Christmas season.
“With our thoughts and feelings so focused on the Savior of the world, what, then, do we need to do to receive these gifts offered to us so willingly by Jesus Christ? What is the key to loving as He loves, forgiving as He forgives, repenting to become more like Him and ultimately living with Him and our Heavenly Father?”
The key is to make and keep sacred covenants, said President Nelson. “We choose to live and progress on the Lord’s covenant path and to stay on it. It is not a complicated way. It is the way to true joy in this life and eternal life beyond.
“My dear brothers and sisters, my deepest desires are for all of Heavenly Father’s children to have the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and to heed His teachings and for Israel to be gathered as promised in these latter days. I pray that we will believe and receive the love the Savior has for each of us.”
The end of President Nelson's talk.
Goodnight from Walt and Eileen Petersen
We pray you have had a restful and peaceful
Sabbath Day.
We love you.
May you have a wonderful December.
