Family is Everything…
Today I went back to Aug 2019 to copy
the format for this week's blog. So
I thought I'd leave some from 2 years ago
as a "remembrance" from Walt's last
year with us.

I had not heard of the "Cobra Effect." It
was interesting to read about it in the
August Ensign 2019. I recommend it
on page 36.
It's a great article by Elder Lynn G. Robbins

We went to the club house
this late afternoon... {2019}
  ...and bicycled for 20 minutes.
It is good to move around.
 We read the Come, Follow Me lessons for last week: August 19-25:  1  Corinthians 1-7 "Be Perfectly Joined Together"... {2019}
"

and for this week 1 Corinthians 8-13: "Ye Are the Body of Christ."
Walt likes to play checkers to
help his brain keep working.
I won the first game,
he won the second game. {2019}

First, Happy Birthday to a wonderful
daughter-in-law,
Jennifer Doaks Petersen
Here she is with three of her
daughters...Livy, and the twins: Kayden, Jordan
Livy'a doing post-grduate work.
Jen is top right.
Jen, we hope you're having a fun
birthday in Tennessee today.
Brian and Jen have been married 4 1/2 years now.

Ladies' Lunch is at Cravings Bistro at
25 W Center, Pleasant Grove today.
Most of us have not been here before.
Sounds like they have all kinds of
grilled cheese sandwiches, salads,
and a specialty of Tomato basil soup.
We had 14 come today--the most of any lunch
I can remember...
Starting with LeAnn in the lower left corner...
LeAnn, Linda H, Vickie, Eileen, Kathie,
Stephanie, Sharon, Sandi, Judy, Sue,
Jeanie, Kaye, Linda B, Mayra.
and from the other direction:
Sue, on lower left, Jeanie, Kaye, Linda B,
Mayra, LeAnn with her hand in the air,
Linda H, Vickie, Eileen, Kathie,
Stephanie, Sharon, Sandi,
and Judy.
This shows Kaye and Linda B. better.
Clockwise from left: Linda B., Mayra,
LeAnn, Linda H., Vickie, Eileen, Kathie.
Closer up of last photo...
Closer up...
Cute red tables and chairs out front.
and funny sign inside:
LeAnn, Linda H.
Some nice gals outside at those cute
red tables offered to take our photo:
Front row, L-R: Linda H., Jeanie, LeAnn, Sandi,
Sharon, Judy, and Eileen.
Second row: Kathie, Sue, Linda B., Kaye,
Vickie, and Stephanie. Mayra had had
to leave a little earlier.
It was so nice to get to know
Stephanie and Mayra better.
We always miss those who can't come.
We know Carol's daughter was
getting married today. We think
a couple of gals were out of town,
and it was probably too far today
for those who work. And since it took
some of us an hour to get our order,
those with a limited time for lunch
may not have gotten to eat.
That's why it's nice to have lunch weekly now--
if we miss one week,
we can come the next week.
Across the street--Ugly's Closet...
.
We want to go  back
and see what's in there.
A sign said it is their
5-year anniversary.
Looking forward to next week, Sept 8th.
Thank you to Judy for organizing these
weekly lunches! It's great to get together,
have good food...often outstanding food,
as we talk to each other about our lives,
ideas, and take on the world today.

When I got home it was beginning
to look a lot like Autumn...
Front door Autumn wreath...
Entry way...
these glass pumpkins have twinkly
lights inside, but I coudn't figure
out how to turn them on.
Hearth...
Family with Autumn decor...
Autumn wreath on the door of
my cozy cottage.
I've love this wall hanging since we
got it near Saginaw, Michigan in 2004 or 2005
when Julie, Jen, and I went to
see Brian and his family while
he was in medical training.
(Seems like a long time ago now that
he's been an Orthopedic Surgeon
for so many years.)
Cute Owl Harvest wall hanging.
This brings fond memories of Marilee Clark
when she was serving as one of our
temple missionaries in San Salvador
and she got it for me at the gift shoppe
which was in the quaint lunch place we
all went to on Mondays when
the temple was closed.
She is a forever friend!
Always fun to have mini-scarecrows in
the palm tree Walt gave me as a
birthday gift a few years ago.
...and Julie likes to get the traditional
pumpkin bread at Kneader's on
the first day they have it for September.
Nothing like a 6-y-o bounding into
his home shouting: "I'm home!"
Other photo from today...
I have a great view out my window.

Movie Night with Gary...
He had some work deadlines so couldn't
come tonight. And we couldn't find
"Witnesses" streaming online yet.
I watched two I had recorded from TCM.
The first was a one-hour documentary
about the life of James Cagney.
July 17, 1899-March 30, 1986 age 86
He won an academy award for this
1942 movie about the life of
George M. Cohan.
The second was a 1940s comedy
college movie with Henry Fonda,
Olivia DeHavilland, Jack Carson,
Joan Leslie and Hattie McDaniels.
I love old 1940's movies and
these old movie stars.
I wondered how long each one had lived:
Henry Fonda 1905-1982 age 77
Olivia deHavilland 1916-2020 age 104
Jack Carson 1910-1963 age 52
Joan Leslie 1925-2015 age 90
Hattie McDaniels 1893-1952 age 59
Wonder what they are doing
in heaven now?

Julie brought in a book that was one
of the treasures in a gift bag that
John's team won for tying for
first in a golf tourney today.
I spent two-three hours going through
this 187 page book about Lagoon.
Fascinating!
Photo - 1890s
Here's one paragraph from the Introduction:
"Lagoon dates its history from 1886 with the grand, but short-lived Lake Park Bathing Resort that started it all on the shores of the Great Sale Lake.
Simon Bamberger an insightful investor, saw great potential for the little resort in a better location. Opening "The Lagoon" in nearby Farmington in 1896, the father-and-son duo of Simon and Julian Bamberger ran, promoted, re-
invented, and nurtured the park until it closed from 1943 through 1945 during World War II.  There were fits and starts along the way but chroniucles of those early years tell of a place that was endeared immediately into the hearts of Utahns. Guests rode their beloved Bamberger train to Lagoon and eventually drove their cars. Family after family came to think of Lagoon as their own.  No summer was complete for most families along the Wasatch Front without at least one trip to the exciting pleasure resort in Farmington."
[It cost 25 cents for the train ticket, which included entrance into 'The Lagoon' for swimming all day and dancing in the big dance pavllion in the evening."
...just a little more from the Introduction:
"Fortunately for the people of Farmington, and Utah, and the entire amusement park industry, after the war, the Freed Family came along and took a chance on the old resort. They saw something unique in 1946 and still see it today [2015] 169 years later. Selling fun is infectious, it's catching, and it caught on big time for the Freed Family and their children...
first Bob then Peter, and now David and Kristen Freed...
Lagoon is, and always has been, a happy place,
rdefining itself from a serene plaure resort by a salty inland sea
to a picnic, swim, and boating garden and finally
into a premier amusement park with rides, Pioneer Villge,
Lagoon-A-Beach water park,
outstanding musical entertainment, and much more.
Lagoon is about the rush of joyfulness that hits
when your family--with picnic coolers and strollers
in tow--arrives at the park.
Lagoon is about the memories you take home
as you exhaustedly head for the exits
late at night--kids a little cranky and a little sticky
getting more tired even as they say:
'Can't we ride just one more time?' "

Family is Everything…
Got a fun e-mail from my granddaughter,
Hermana Brewer, serving her
interim mission at Temple Square until
her Argentina Buenos Aires West Mission
opens up to travelers again.
She rescured a bird that got onto
the 5th floor of their apt building.
Keith Ramsey posted this on fb
today about the Burley Idaho temple site:

Keith Ramsey’s face book post about Burley Temple Site

Today, the sugar beets come off for the last time,             but for the rest of eternity, we will have the                   Burley Idaho temple of                                                         The Church of Jessus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

– in Burley, Idaho

This is about 1 mile east and 1/2 mile south

of Overland and 16th Street of Burley.

It will be so interesting to see the
Architect drawing of this new temple.
Someone posted that it will be about
10,000 sq feet larger than the Twin Falls Temple.
Sorry, I don't have a source for that.

Steve and Natalie took me to supper
at Pandora Express...Thanks.
Time out for ice cream...
Cold Stone ice cream...yum!
...then it was FOOTBALL TIME!
2021 Football Season Opener
BYU Cougars vs Arizona Wildcats
It was at the Allegiant Stadium
in Las Vegas...
Jarom Jordon, Anchor of BYU
SportsNation TV sportscast
said it was the most elegant stadium
he has ever been in!
Over...54,000 fans attended...
Two of my sister--Janice's--kids 'n g-kids
were there:
Sarah and Kenny, and kids
(looking for their photos from fb)

Michael and sons

Exact count was 54 541 and
The BYU Sports Nation guys--Spencer Linton
and Jarom Jordan said they thought
54,000 of them were Cougar fans!
So fun to have Gary come over and
watch it with us three.
I loved listening to these two brothers
talk about their days playing for
the Burley Bobcat High School team.
They quoted some of the funny things
their coachs said to them.
One from Coach Billetz:
"Listen guys, you gotta dance
with the ones who brought ya!"

Here's part of a write up I found: Sorry, I didnt see the author.

"LAS VEGAS – BYU football opened its 2021 football season with a 24-16 win over Arizona at Allegiant Stadium in front of a crowd of 54,541 fans on Saturday night

The Cougars (1-0) topped the Wildcats (0-1) for the third time under head coach Kalani Sitake, all coming in season openers. It was Sitake's eighth win over a Power 5 program.

BYU used a 14-point second quarter to fuel the win, led by wideout Neil Pau'u setting career marks with eight receptions, 126 yards and two touchdowns in the game, including a 67-yard touchdown catch and even added a nine-yard pass to quarterback Jaren Hall.

Hall went 18 for 28 with 198 yards to go with two passing touchdowns while adding five rushing attempts for 36 yards. Running back Tyler Allgeier lead all rushers with 94 yards on 17 attempts and one rushing touchdown."

Linebacker Keenan Pili led all tacklers with 17 total tackles including 10 solo stops and a sack. The BYU defense tallied four sacks on the night and defensive back Hayden Livingston grabbed his first career interception. Linebacker Ben Bywater also set career marks with 10 total tackles."

Family is Everything…
We were buoyed up by the
testimonies shared today in our
Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward.
** *** ***
I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation
and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ
that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this September 5th,
I pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...
I testify that there are Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ on the earth now...

The First Presidency
President Russell M. Nelson,
President Henry B. Eyring
President Dallin H. Oaks
...and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
are Prophets, Seers, and Revelators...
Elders M. Russell Ballard, Jeffrey R. Holland,
Dieter F. Uchtdorf, David B. Bednar,
Quentin L. Cook,
D. Todd Christofferson, Neil L. Andersen,
Ronald A. Rasband, Gary E. Stevenson,
Dale G. Renlund, Gerrit W. Gong, Ulisses Soares.

THE QUORUM OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES
is the second-highest governing body
in the Church (the First Presidency
being the highest).
Apostles are special witnesses of
Jesus Christ, called to teach
and testify of Him throughout
the world.
They travel frequently, addressing
and encouraging large congregations
of members and interested
nonmembers, as well as
meeting with local leaders.
When they are not traveling,                                                       members of the Quorum of the Twelve counsel together and with other general Church leaders on matters affecting the worldwide Church, such as missionary work, temple building, spiritual and temporal welfare, and much more.
Here is a testimony about Jesus Christ
from the Apostles:
"Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father.
He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son.”
-The Living Christ
The Testimony of the Apostles

The Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-day Saints

I share these truths as my testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.
*** *** ***
Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
