Autumn
End of October ~ Beginning of November

Monday, October 30, 2017

The funeral for Connie's Mom, Esther Phillips, was very peaceful with not only fun stories of her life shared by her three daughters--Connie, Rilda, and Renae, and two of her sons, but also how spiritual their Mom was.

Here are Connie and her five siblings:
In birth order...
Connie, Ronn, Rilda, Renae, David, Boyd.
Connie will have to tell me the order that
they are standing in.
I think it's left to right:
Ronn, Boyd, David, Renae, Connie, and Rilda.

A beautiful headstone for Esther and Floyd
at the Rupert Cemetery.
Here are Connie's six wonderful children
who all came to their grandmother's funeral.
Left to right: Lori (BurleyP), Brad (Logan),
Lisa (Pocatello), Catherine (Portland),
Diana (Blackfoot), Jennifer (Salmon).
It was great to see all of them again.
 Dale and Connie.
We feel blessed that Connie is married to
Walt's brother, Dale.
Actually, we are the ones who introduced them.
She and her siblings were very attentive
of their mother during these past four years
when Esther hasn't known them.
Connie and her two sisters gave a
wonderful life sketch and memories of
their mother.
Connie's brothers gave wonderful talks,
and then the dedicatory prayer for the grave.
It was very kind of Connie to invite
us to stay for the luncheon after the
funeral and burial.

Later that day Walt got an x-ray of his
back that has started hurting again.
It's not easy to get old, older, and oldest.

Now I am announcing our "Sibling Book Club" book  for November......
The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread
"On a quiet autumn afternoon in 1944, nine-year-old Morris Bird III decides to visit a friend who lives on the other side of town. So he grabs the handle of a red wagon and, with his little sister in tow, begins an incredible pilgrimage across Cleveland . . . and out of childhood forever..."

Halloween comes just once a year...

Did you enjoy your trick or treaters?
We did...

Hope  you only have treats not tricks...
For walking class, Ro Gillette, the instructor
had asked everyone to wear their "Halloween Gear" today.
At the last minute this morning, before I went to the dentist,
we threw together a "pirate" outfit for Walt.
Walt came up with that hat after I left...
So I guess he was a Safari pirate.
We had rummaged thru the Halloween box
and found some things for him and a witches
hat for me.
Here's some of the class who wore
black and orange or something Halloweenish.
This shows some of the 60-and-over walkers.
Here we are together...
Oh, actually, Walt was a pirate physician...
Lo and behold, he won prize for best costume.
(And he doesn't like wearing costumes.)
This afternoon we finished the homemade chili for tonight,
then got our car trunk cleared out and
ready for the "trunk or treat" tonight.
We've not done this before
Walt enjoyed the little kids...
He told some of them for a trick before
the treat...
One little girl said: "I'm not going to do a trick
because I wouldn't want to turn you into a frog."

There were lots of kids....

...and they just kept coming
from 5:30...
The costumes were darling...

When Walt said to one boy:
"Oh, the boy in white..."
to which I said: "Oh, Elvis..."
The little boy replied: "You got it."
We'd been cautioned to bring lots of candy...
Some had to close their trunks before 6:15...
Then is was time for the chili supper with
the combined 3rd and 7th wards...
Homemade chili and homemade cinnamon rolls
made a delicious Halloween supper.
Walt enjoyed talking with President Paul Young.
I got to talk with Kate and her nephew Adam.
I go visiting teaching to Adam's Mom, Teresa Miller.
Her husband is the brother of Russ Miller.
I can't hole the cell camera steady at times...
but Alice Hansen always does so much
work at our ward dinners to make
them successful.
The Farrer family all joined in dressing up
in fun costumes.
Tyler Gerratt really came in disguise.
Our home teacher, Eric Pierce, had a fun
shirt that the eyes would light up and move.
The battery had run out by the time I took his photo.
He also had a contact in one eye that became a
spider web.
The weather got warmer this afternoon'
than it was this morning, so it wasn't
as cold as some Halloweens have been.
When we got home at 7:30...
we only had two families of
trick 'r treaters come to our home.
Because they took time for a photo...
we had them get an extra treat...
Hope you all had a...

Goodbye, October...

Hello, November...

Wednesday, November 1, 2017

We didn't get away at noon as we had planned.
When the Haroldsons stopped  by late afternoon,
we were happy we were still home.

 Driving to Utah at sunset...

Walt took a turn  driving...
Our one stop on the way at the Brigham City rest area...
 Welcome to Utah
Our last view of the sun for another day...

We left home a little after four o'clock, and
were at Gary's apartment by 7:40 and got to
watch the final game of the World Series with him.

Gary drove us to the airport early Thursday morning.
 We're at the airport...
 Time to go check in...
Now...
We had a two hour layover at the
Minneapolis-St.Paul Airport
so we had lunch.
On the lower level we got a
good photo of the Delta connection
plane to Rochester...
Walt got a seat by the window...
James Clark had the seat by him,
and I was seated in the row ahead.
Walt asked him if it would be possible
to change seats with me,
so I got to sit by Walt.
