Traces of Time . . . June 27 - July 3, 2022

TRACES OF TIME . . .                           {Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.}

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 1 on the way, and posterity to come.

 THIS WEEK

 JUNE 27-JULY 3,  2022

MONDAY, JUNE 27 2022                            Family is Everything ...                              Sunrise: 5: a.m. Sunset:  8: p.m.
Today is 178 years since
the Prophet Joseph Smith,
and his brother,
Hiram Smith were martyred--
each sealing their testimony
with their blood.

Daily Scripture: Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it. He lived great, and he died great in the eyes of God and his people; and like most of the Lord’s anointed in ancient times, has sealed his mission and his works with his own blood. - Doctrine and Covenants 135:3
Daily Quote: Their courage, their faith, their love for the people were without bounds, and they gave all that they had for their people. Such devotion and love left no doubt in the minds of those who enjoyed the companionship of the Holy Spirit that these good men and true, were indeed the authorized servants of the Lord. - Joseph F. Smith

Family is Everything…
Today I washed and folded clothes.
I filled my pill boxes for the week,
I worked on my blog.
Found this photo of us...
probably from the 1980s or '90s.
...a hot ending to June!

     Ladies' Lunch was at

Thai House Cuisine in Lehi

We have not eaten here
as a group before.
They have recently re-opened
after being closed for quite a while.

Several got Pineapple Curry,

I got Sweet 'n Sour Chicken.

The lunch special was $9.99.
We all said the food
was yummy, except some
of us didn't like their
Spring Roll.

Had a short rain storm...
The Wednesday night
movie with gary was:

 "The Man Who Killed
Liberty Valance" from 1962
One of the few movies
when John Wayne doesn't
get the girl...
...and he dies in the end.
Gary and I thought it was a
good movie to end our
month of Westerns.

Family is Everything…

Daily Scripture: For the Lord shall be in their midst, and his glory shall be upon them, and he will be their king and their lawgiver. - Doctrine and Covenants 45:59
Daily Quote: Our focus must be riveted on the Savior and His gospel. It is mentally rigorous to strive to look unto Him in every thought. But when we do, our doubts and fears flee. - Russell M. Nelson

                    Family is Everything…

Steve had me come to
join their special day at their home.
Natalie hasn't seen her sister
Quinette who goes by "Q"
for 7 years.
Brian and Q live in Australia with
their three children:
Cameron, Jessica, and Becca.
They did a family workout at
Crossfit starting at noon.
Steve picked me up for their
family BBQ following that.
Oh, they did some knife throwing
at a target Carter and Steve made.

Natalie with her three sisters:
Gina, Anji, Q.

Lunch was a choice of
hamburgers or hot dogs,
and all the fixins...
including lots of fruit,
of which the fresh cherries
were so fun because we only
get them during the
Fourth of July time.

I guess no one got a
photo of the slip 'n slide time.

Kuub was a slow-moving game,
but fun for the team that
could knock the most
kuubs down by throwing
sticks at them.
Madasta had a good aim,
as did Cortney.

Super ball was intense.

Knife throwing was popular
throughout the day.

So fun to see Kelsy and Josh
and their new addition.

Ice cream cones were a
welcome treat on a hot day...
mid-way between lunch and supper.

Supper was more
BBQ - wings, and also
pulled pork, with yummy
salads and fruit,
topped off with a choice
of desserts:
apple pie with ice cream,
or brownies, etc.

Natalie has a friend who
helped her choose terrific
fireworks!

The celebration was topped
off with a perfect fire pit
where the coals were just right
for roasting marshmellows
to melt the chocolate
for S'mores.
Then it was all too soon for
the sad goodbyes...
Who knows when the Armstrongs can
make that 30-hour flight again to return
to see family and friends in the U.S.A.?

Steve got me home just
a few minutes before midnight...
so our coach didn't turn
into a pumpkin.

Thank you for a memorable
day with you and your family.

I always thought the
Dog Days of Summer
were Aug 1-31.
No...they start JULY 3...                             Dog days DateSun, Jul 3, 2022 –Thu, Aug 11, 2022.  The dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius, which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever,          mad dogs, and bad luck. Wikipedia

Sunrise: 6:25 a.m.
Sunset:  8:42 p.m.

Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward
Fast and Testimony Meeting
We opened the meeting with
this great patriotic song:
"My Country, 'Tis of Thee"

The bishop was excused as
he was out of town.
David South, First Counselor
was presiding.

8 Testimonies were shared:
John Peterson,
Eileen Petersen, Jo Ann Gifford,
Jessica Van Orden, Melanie Williamson,
Samantha Warner, Clyde Witham,
Sara Mallett.

As Brother Witham said: It is a great
tradition in the Church to be able
to share testimony on the first
Sunday of each month when
we are moved to.

This helps us all strengthen our
individual testimonies of
Heavenly Father, His Son Jesus Christ--
our Savior, and of the Holy Ghost.
Also of the Propeht Joseph Smith,
the Restorer of all things, and
of the Book of Mormon.
Plus continued testimony of
our living Prophet, Russell M. Nelson,
and of this True Church.

We closed with another
great patriotic song:
"America the Beautiful"

I like this quote I just saw:

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

-- Mark Twain

...and I think one of the main parts of finding out "why" is who you chose to marry and then choose to have children.

* *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this July 3rd,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.

Daily Scripture: And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever. - 2 Nephi 2:26
Daily Quote: I testify Jesus Christ is come to heal the brokenhearted. His gospel is to recover sight to the blind. His Church is to preach deliverance to the captive, and His disciples across the world are striving to set at liberty them that are bruised. - Sharon Eubank

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
Daily Scripture: For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do. - 2 Nephi 25:23
Daily Quote: The gift of the Atonement of Jesus Christ provides us at all times and at all places with the blessings of repentance and forgiveness. - Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."
Daily Scripture: And blessed are all they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost. - 3 Nephi 12:6
Daily Quote: We have been promised the constant companionship of the third member of the Godhead and hence the privilege of receiving revelation for our own lives. - Sheri L. Dew

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.

The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.

Daily Scripture: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. - 1 Peter 2:9
Daily Quote: Through the priesthood, we can be lifted. The priesthood brings light into our world. - Laudy Ruth Kaouk

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.
