Family is Everything...
Happy Birthday to William Joseph Petersen,
"12" years old today.
What a difference 7 years makes...
Here is Will with his brother Sam
back in 2013
Here Will is just four years ago
at his baptism in Nov 2016...
...with Riggy.
 ...and with his brother, Sam,
and other cousins: Maddie,
Jacee, Isaac, Jackson,
and Rigdon.
Two years ago with Riggy at the
Corner Canyon high school play'
"All Shook Up" that Anna was
so darling in.
Jan 19, 2019 when Will came with
his Dad and us to have lunch at
La Hacienda after Sam's basketball game.
Here is William four months ago,
with his family on June 23.
Now he is a pre-teen at age 12.
William with his siblings...
Josh, Anna, and Sam,
on June 23, 2020 when his
sister was set apart as
a missionary.
Hope you've had a very
Happy and Fun Birthday, Will.
A good supper for a cold day...

Family is Everything...
                                              Sister Anna Petersen
Called to the Finland Helsinki Mission
has been serving in the
California Sacramento Mission since
August 24, 2020 waiting for her visa.
She was able to receive her endowment
in the Sacramento California Temple
today - October 27, 2020.
Sister Anna Petersen with her
Dad and Mom who were able
to come be with her on
this very special day!
This is what Anna's Mom said:
"We are still walking about 5 feet off the ground after an
unforgettable trip to Sacramento to go to the temple for
the first time with our sweet missionary. It was a sacred
and joyous day for us with Sister Petersen! We are so
thankful we were able to go. It was a once in a lifetime experience!"
I love this quote from Brigham Young about the temple endowment.
It is printed in his Journal of Discourses so is okay to type here:
President Young said: “Let me give you the definition in brief.
Your endowment is, to receive all those ordinances

in the House of the Lord, which are necessary for you,

after you have departed this life,

to enable you to walk back to the presence of the Father,

passing the angels who stand as sentinels,

being enabled to give them the key words, the signs and tokens,

pertaining to the Holy Priesthood, and gain your eternal exaltation

in spite of earth and hell.”
-- Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 2, p. 31

Anna, I love you and am so proud of your serving a mission.

Love,

Grama Petersen

Family is Everything...
  The Ladies Lunch was at
Jim's Family Restaurant in
American Fork today.
They were really busy...
So we waited a while to order.
then waited to get our orders.
We enjoy talking to each other,
so it was okay...
...and worth the wait.
Two got taco salads,
...four got breakfasts which had so
much they could only eat half...
...two got the oven roasted turkey dinner,
and one got a Greek dish.
Everyone agreed: "Delicious!"
The nine who were able to come:
Judy, Linda, Eileen, Shauna, Kaye,
Kathie, Lynda, Sharon, and Sandy.
Outside photo has
Linda, Sandy, and Sharon.
Judy thought we should not be out
and about the day after the election,
so lunch is postponed until
Wednesday, November 11.
We had a delicious chili super
at Roger and Jen Cheney's tonight...
A year or so ago, Julie saw how someone
made fun, strong bubbles by having
hot water poured over dry ice
in a bucket...
She told John about it, and he made
the bucket with the hose to make
the bubbles.
John and Julie taught Jen
how to use the bubble machine...
...so she can do it for Clover's
class the day before Halloween.
Julie is also doing it for
Riggy's class.
Watson just thought he got
the biggest bubble...
Then Rigdon got a big one, too.
Julie drove us over to the Springside
Elementary School for the drived-
through Jack-o-Lantern
display but the line of cars was
so long, she drove us over to
Harvest Hills to see a spectacular
Halloween scene in someone's yard.
(I'll get the photo she took of it.)
Then we went back over to Riggy's
school to see if the lines were shorter
for the Jack-O-Lantern display.
They were longer! It was 8:30 by
now, so we just went on home.

Wednesday is movie night

Info from Wikipedia:
"The Phantom of the Opera is a 1925 American silent horror film adaptation of Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra, directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney in the title role of the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star. The film remains most famous for Chaney's ghastly, self-devised make-up, which was kept a studio secret until the film's premiere. The film was released on November 25, 1925."

Source: LyricFindFRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2020      Family is Everything...         I did'nt take any photos
on Friday. The main thing I did today was V O T E.
Julie and John took my ballot over with theirs to put in the
Ballot Vote Box.
This photo of me with Walt's cousin DeLamar Jensen and his daughter, Christine Peters is from Saturday, October 31. Since so much else was going on Saturday, I'm going to post this here.
DeLamar had his 95th birthday in April. Christine who has been a widow for several years (I can't remember if she old me 8 or 12) raised her family in Samoa. She stayed their four more years after her husband passed away. Then she moved to Utah to help her elderly parents who live in Provo.
Dee is the cousin who had an airplane and would give Walt and his brother and sisters rides in that airplane when Ray and Jane took their family to Buhl to visit them. Ray's Dad, Andrew Petersen, was the brother of Dee's mother, Johanna Petersen Jensen. His Dad was Jacob Jensen.
Not only did Dee have an airplane, he built model airplanes, which Walt was enamored with. Many of them Dee had hanging from his bedroom ceiling.
I think I'll copy what Walt had to say about this beloved cousin in the letter he wrote for his 95th birthday. Christine wrote to family and friends to share their experiences with DeLamar, hoping she could get 95 responses for his 95 years.  She actually got 105, and compiled them  in to a book for her Dad, by "family, friends, ward friends, BYU professor colleagues, missionaries--from when Dee was president of the Peru Arequipa (?sp) Mission--Machu Picchu was in that mission."
Here's Walt's memories of his cousin... I can't find where I've filed it in the computer. But I did find a short biography of Dee's life:

De Lamar Jensen was born and reared in Idaho. After graduating from high school, he entered the Army Air Forces and served as a fighter pilot and later as a B—29 flight engineer during World War Il. At the end of the war, he enrolled at Brigham Young University for one year. Returning to Idaho, he taught physics and aeronautics in high school until 1947 when he was called to serve a mission in Mexico and Guatemala for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On his mission his life made an abrupt turn with the discovery that he preferred history and languages to science and mathematics.

Returning to BYU, Dr. Jensen completed a B.A. degree in history in 1952. He then spent five years in New York City, where he studied modern European history with a minor in Latin American history at Columbia University under the distinguished professor Garrett

Mattingly. He received an M.A. degree in 1953 and a Ph.D. in 1957.

Since Dr. Jensen joined the BYU faculty in 1957, he has taught nearly every European history course offered, as well as courses in U.S. and Latin American history. He specializes in the Renaissance, the Reformation, the overseas expansion of Europe, European intellectual

history, and early modern diplomacy. Professor Jensen was chair of the History Department from 1967 to 1972, and he has directed or codirected six Study Abroad programs in Mexico and Europe.

Professor Jensen has been awarded numerous fellowships and research grants, including an Institute of International Education Fellowship to Spain and France in 1956; a Rockefeller Foundation Research Grant to France in 1964; a National Endowment for the Humanities Research

Grant to Europe, 1970—71; a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship to

Europe, 1979—80; and a David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies Grant for research in Spain and England in 1988. In 1977 he gave the Distinguished Faculty Lecture at Brigham Young University entitled "Reflections from a Renaissance Treasury. '

Professor Jensen is cofounder and director of the International Organization of Historians of Early Modern Europe and was general editor of its newsletter/ bulletin from 1965 to 1979. He served as a contributing editor for the newsletter of the National Foundation for Reformation Research, on the editorial committee of the Sixteenth Century Journal, as editor of Forums in History, and on a national committee of the Sixteenth-Century Studies Conference. Professor Jensen has presented more than 40 lectures and papers at national and international conferences.

Professor Jensen's extensive research in European archives and libraries has resulted in the publication of a number of books, including Renaissance Europe: Age of Recovery and Reconciliation (1981; 2d ed., 1992); Reformation Europe: Age of Reform and Revolution (1981; 2d ed., 1992); Confrontation at Worms: Martin Luther and the Diet of Worms (1973); and Diplomacy and Dogmatism:

Bernardino de Mendoza and the French Catholic League (1964).

Professor Jensen has also edited The Expansion of Europe: Motives,

Methods and Meanings (1967) and Machiavelli: Cynic, Patriot, or Political Scientist? (1960). In addition, he has published 25 articles in a variety of national and international journals, a number of chapters in books, and over 50 book reviews.

From 1980 to 1983, Dr. Jensen served as president of the LDS Peru Arequipa Mission. After returning to BYU, Dr. Jensen became dean of the University Honors Program during a significant period of its development. Professor Jensen, although officially retired, is teaching a course this semester on "The Overseas Expansion of Europe. " He is also writing several articles on Columbus and is serving as chair of the BYU Columbus Quincentennial Committee. Professor Jensen is married to Mary White, and they are the parents of five children.

Dee also paints. He was painting this for Walt and me and is so sad that he did'nt finish it before Walt passed away. It's the famous pyramid, "Kuklucan" Chichen Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula. Walt and I almost became "honorary tour guides" there because the General Authorities who visited our Mexico Merida Mission wanted to go there. When President Hinckley came to our Mission in November 1997, he and Sister Hinckley, their daughter Virginia, along with Elder and Sister L. Tom Perry, went there.

Family is Everything...

This is how Halloween went for
our family here in Saratoga Springs.
This is what Julie posted on fb
at 8:28 p.m,,,,
This was not your ordinary Halloween. 8am-Maddie competes.

Noon-Riggy bball game. 2:30pm-Jacee competes. 5pm-Jackson

competes. Scones ready by 6pm. 180 gone by around 7:30pm. (I

usually make 250 but thought it would be slow this year- oops!)

Overall a great but exhausting day. Happy Halloween! 🎃👻🧡
Maddie and Ethan at ballroom competition.
Placed sixth in Waltz.
Congratulations!
 Riggy at Jr. Jazz basketball...
Jacee with Ballroom partner,
Chreistiand...
John with Jackson at
Westlake High School
Marching Thunder Band competition.
Jacee on Halloween...
 Jackson in costume...
 Maddie and Riggy in costumes...
While all this was going on
I drove around our fun neighborhood
taking photos of Halloween decorations
that would be gone the next day.

A beautiful Fall day...

 John and Julie's home.
My "cozy cottage" is where the
left two front windows are.
Notice the garage ready to put'
the tables in to fry scones...
...for now they are raising
...in the kitchen.
Homemade corn chowder is also cooking.
 John deep frying scones.
Roger took Maddie and Riggy
Trick or Treating with his kids...
...then came for a scone.
The neighbors love John and Julie's
tradition of serving hot scones with
honey butter and other toppings
to go on them...
They usually do 250 scones, but thought
not as many would come this year.
They started at 6:00 and had served
all 180 by 7:35. Jackson barely got home
from his band competition to get
the last one.
Julie loved Serena's 80's costume.
"I could have worn that to my high school
any day," she told this cute teenager.
I think the Westin and Chelsea Smith
family win the neighborhood prize for
the best themed costumes:
Jean Val Jean, Fantine, Cosette...
(their baby's name is really Cosette).
...and Alora as Javert puts
x-convict 24601 in handcuffs.
Then it was BYU football game time.
Cougars vs the Hilltoppers.
(Yes, Hilltoppers because their
University is on a hill in
Bowling Green.)
Fun to have Steve and Natalie
come watch the game with me.
BYU 41 - Western Kentucky 10 gives
the Cougars a 6-0 season
and bumps them up to a
9th place spot in the rankings.

Walt's last Halloween...
Riggy's last Halloween with
his Grampa Petersen.
Fun Halloween decorations...
from KSL.
 These were shown on
Brooke's "Family Rules"
show on KSL last week..
...unique...
...even creepy.
And the cutest Halloween witch
of all was up in Reburg, Idaho --
our great-granddaughter
Taitum...
 ...however, her vampire brother,
Diesel, did not share her
enthusiasum for this Trick or
Treating holiday.
And so ends Halloween 2020.
Julie and John make it a very fun time.
I feel sorry for the spoil-sports who
say: "Bah-humbug" to this
fun time of year.

Yesterday morning sunrise was

This morning it was at 6:59 A,M,
Last night sunset was at 6:24 p.m.
Tonight sunset was at  5:23 P.M.

Our dear Burley friend and neighbor,
Darrell Roskelley passed away this morning.
Darrell Marlin Roskelley

Oct. 21, 1947 - Nov. 1, 2020

Date of Service: Nov. 5, 2020

BURLEY – Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Darrell Marlin Roskelley, 73, of Burley, Idaho, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020, due to a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away surrounded by his wife and three daughters.

Darrell was born October 21, 1947, in Logan, Utah, to Marlin Corbett Roskelley and Luella Walker. He was welcomed by four older sisters. He was raised in the home his parents built in Smithfield, Utah. He attended school at North Cache High, and graduated from Sky View High School in 1965; the first graduating class of the new high school. He attended Utah State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. Darrell served a full-time mission to South East Mexico. He struggled to learn a new language; however, once he became fluent in Spanish, it became a skill he would use throughout his life.

Darrell’s mother had her eye on a cute neighbor girl. Upon his mother’s urging, he called Mary Ann Pehrson and asked her out. They began dating Mary Ann’s senior year of high school, 1969. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple on March 19, 1971.

Darrell and Mary Ann lived in Smithfield, Utah, while completing their education. It was here they welcomed their two oldest daughters. Upon graduation from college, Darrell found employment with Del Monte Corporation in Smithfield, Utah. Three years later, in 1977, Del Monte transferred them to Burley. While in Burley, they welcomed their third daughter. Darrell worked as a fieldman and later as the warehouse supervisor for Del Monte in Burley. After 19 years of working for Del Monte, the Burley plant was closed. He was then appointed Cassia County Clerk. He served in this capacity for nine years. He then found employment as the 5th Judicial Drug Court Coordinator, covering eight counties. This is where he discovered his true passion, helping others to change their lives.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Darrell served in many capacities. His church callings ranged from counselor in the bishopric, bishop, high councilor, and serving in the Spanish Branch. He found his greatest joy in serving with the youth. He served in the Park Avenue YSA Branch, and enjoyed teaching a youth Sunday School class with his wife. He also worked with the youth when he was called as a CES missionary with his sweetheart to the Texas Fort Worth Mission. He was recently released as elders quorum president of the Burley 3rd Ward. At the time of his death, he was serving as a temple worker in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple.

Fly tying, hunting, fishing, spending time in the outdoors and with family were some of his favorite hobbies. His three daughters were the light of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Burley; his children, Jennifer Kennedy (Bryon) of Rexburg, Lori Ann Harris (Michael) of Burley, and Alyson Christianson (Jared) of Jerome; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Lou West of Nibley, Utah, and Arlene Hall of Wellsville, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Helen Burger and Camilla Biddle.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Burley Third Ward, located at 2200 Oakley Ave., in Burley. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Smithfield City Cemetery, 300 E. Center St., in Smithfield, Utah.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and at the church on Thursday, from 9 until 9:45 a.m.

The Roskelley family would to thank the caretakers of Intermountain Homecare & Hospice for the loving care that was given to Darrell.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the wearing of a face mask and social distancing is required.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through your local ward or branch.

A live webcast of the Funeral Service will be available at the following link: https://youtu.be/WEQub717h9w.

We watched our meeting via Zoom stream today,

then John and Jackson prepared the Sacrament for us.

The dinner table is set...
for a delicious Sunday
roast beef dinner.
 ...the rolls are yummy enough
to have for dessert.
Thanks, John and Julie.
*** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this November 1st,
I pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...
I share these truths as my testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
