Traces of Time . . . October 12-18, 2020 - Our trip to see the Tennessee Petersens

TRACES OF TIME . . .                      (To see last week's blog post--scroll down to the end of this week, then the Week of  October 5-11, 2020 will be there.  If it's not, hit "Older Posts." at the very bottom right.)     FINISHED WITH THIS WEEK'S POST...

Family is Everything...
It was fun to go to lunch with
Steve today at Denny's.
There weren't many there.
Steve then drove my car through
the car wash for me.
Thanks, son.
Driving into our neighborhood looked so
beautifully "Autumnish" I stopped the
car and took a photo.
This afternoon my great, new
dermatologist explained my diagnosis
from the biopsy he took on Sept 28.
"Squamous cell carcinoma in-situ..."
it would be a whole lot more serious
if it didn't have that "in-situ" with it.
It means it is a very early stage,
slow-growing, just on the top of the
surface cancer on the right side of
my nose. It's right where the center
of my glasses sit on my nose.
It's the type that can just be scraped
off in three minutes.

Family is Everything...
A cool fall day at 60 degrees
most of the day.
I drove out to Ridley's in Eagle Mountain
to mail some tax papers to our
accountant in Burley.
So fun to receive a surprise Halloween
care package in the mail today...
...from the Brewer Bunch in Minnesota.

                                                                    ...was delicious.

                                 Movie night with Gary.
                            We're watching old monster
                            movies for Oct. Tonight we
                            watched "Creature from the
                            Black Lagoon."
It was interesting to see how
they made this from the 1950s.
It had two sequels in 1955
and 1956. "The Shape of Water"
that was the "best picture" of
2017 was based on this old
                                        movie.
                                        Gary remembers how scared
he was in this movie as a
                                        little boy.

I didn't see what the rest ordered.
We got to their home in Shelbyville
about five o'clock...

Family is Everything...

D A Y   2   I N   T E N N E S S E E . . .
We drove over to Jennifer's mother's home to see
where Jen lived when she was growing up.

Janell reminded Brian that Jen used to live within
a few blocks of her and now he's taken her 18 miles
away to the other end of Shelbyville.

(Brian took a photo of us in front of Janell's home,
and he took a photo of Jen with her Mom. Bri,
could you please text those photos to me.
Thanks.)

The Duck River runs right behind their home.
                                    It's a very beautiful setting.
This is a colorful sink in one of
  bathrooms.
We stopped at the Doak-Howell Funeral Home
for Jen to share her respects
for an old friend.
Jen's son Slate came out
to meet John and Julie
and family.
From there we drove to Bell Buckle

Bell Buckle, Tennessee

A Small Town Treasure

The small town of Bell Buckle is just an hour south of Nashville. It's home to vast antique shopping, Tennessee history, and home to the famously annual RC & Moon Pie Festival. The event attracts thousands each June with live entertainment, arts and crafts, RC & Moon Pie Games, and the cutting of the world's largest moon pie.

Bell Buckle is a town in Bedford CountyTennessee, United States. The population was 500 at the 2010 census.[5] The downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Bell Buckle Historic District.

As of 2018 the population is listed at 541.

From Wikipedia:  History  “The origin of the town's unusual name is not known…one story says that one of the first white men to travel through the area found a tree with carvings of a cowbell and a buckle, possibly carved by Indians to warn white settlers away, or possibly carved by surveyors to mark the area as good pasture. Another form of the legend holds that a bell and buckle were tied around a tree. In any case, the nearby creek was named Bell Buckle Creek, and the town later took the name of the creek.  It was incorporated in 1856."

We had lunch at
Bell Buckle Cafe
Bell Buckle is a charming little town of about 541.
Brian and Jen ordered carrot souffle as a side. Delicious!
This is the entire "downtown" of Bell Buckle.

To Nashville, Tennessee for late afternoon and evening
Olivia wasn't able to come see us, but here's a photo
of her last March when they first got the baby pet pigs.
This one is Dixie Rona.
...Olivia suggested to her Mom that we walk across this famous bridge
into downtown Nashville. Emma also suggested to her Dad that this
is one of the highlights of downtown Nashville.  I can't pronounce the
name of it. Julie said Jen just called it the "Sky Bridge."
This is what we first saw from the parking lot for the Tennessee Titans Football Stadium:
When we looked behind us on the bridge
we could see the
Tennessee Titans Football Stadium.
A view from the river at dusk:
Another view...the bridge we
walked on is that one behind
the big arch...it has three
arches...
Info from Wikipedia:
"The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge (previously called the Shelby Street Bridge or Shelby Avenue Bridge) is a truss bridge that spans the Cumberland River in Nashville, TennesseeUnited States. The bridge spans 960 meters (3,150 ft) and is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world.

Early history

The bridge construction began in 1907 and finished in 1909 at a cost of about $475,000. The substructure of the bridge was light grey concrete, and the superstructure was made of steel that had been painted black.

The bridge was the first in North America to have concrete arched trusses.

The bridge was designed and construction was supervised by Howard M. Jones, the chief office engineer of the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway

National Register of Historic Places

In 1998 the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge was admitted to the National Register of Historic Places, due mainly to the unique truss design.

Closure and reopening

State inspectors declared the bridge to be in "poor" condition in 1992, and the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in 1998. The bridge was originally slated for demolition. However, due to aesthetic, architectural, and historical considerations, it was decided that it should be converted to a pedestrian bridge rather than be demolished.

The refurbishment of the bridge cost in excess of $15 million."

Emma and Brian took turns pushing my wheelchair

across this famous bridge
from the Tennessee Titans
football stadium parking lot
into the center of downtown...

(Don't know if that included the

We didn't go thru the museum.

Jen and Lizzie were trying to keep warm.
They all got safely back down...
While I waited in the
warm car, Brian gave me
his phone to watch the start of the
BYU vs University of Houston football game.
Then I told Brian play by play as he
drove us home. We watched
the rest of the game at home.
BYU finally pulled it out 43-26 to
remain undefeated with a 5-0 season.
Brian and I were the only ones who
stayed up till 12:24 midnight CDT to
watch it to the end.

We had a tail wind flying to
Tennessee so landed a half
hour early. However, coming
back it was a head wind so
landed a half hour late.
It was a long  3 1/2 hours!
John said the shuttle lines were
long, so we waited for him
to come pick us up.
As we started the long walk to
go outside, Riggy looked at
 the wheelchair and said:
"Mom, I was thinking..."
I knew exactly what he was
thinking. Yup, he rode on
my lap out to the passenger

but relishing our memories of

** I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this October 18th,
I pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

As my mother, Verna Huffaker Albertson, at age 10, heard a voice say to her when her Sunday School teacher taught her class the story of Joseph Smith's first vision: "It's true." She never doubted it from then on.  I, with my sweet mother, also know it is true.
