Traces of Time . . . January 28 - February 3, 2019

 Traces of Time . . .
(To see last week's blog post--scroll down to the end of this week, then the Week of Jan. 21-27, 2019 will be there. If it's not, hit "Older posts.")
THIS WEEK- JANUARY 28,
TO FEBRUARY 3, 2019

Family is Everything…
Rigdon was talking with Walt in the living room,
then he had to run to another room for something.
When he came right back he asked Grampa:
"Did you miss me?"
"I sure did," said Grampa.
Then he did something and asked Grampa: "Is that cool?"
"It's really cool," Grampa replied, adding
"It's so cool it's almost cold!"
We're trying to get Max to not
jump up and beg for food when
we're eating.
 Walt's physical therapist came today
because we will be gone tomorrow.
Mark had Walt do some steps
up and down on a small stool.
This afternoon we went to the Club House
to exercise on the stationery bikes.

Lorna and Carl surprised us with a visit.
Their daughter Becky and family live here
in Saratoga Springs, so they stop in to see
us when they come this way.
We were so excited to see them,
didn't remember to take a photo.
But I asked Lorna to send a photo.
One of their kids had given them tickets
to the Hale Theater, so they had gone to
"The Wizard of Oz" that afternoon with two
of their grandchildren, so Lorna sent us this photo.
They grew up in Burley. Lorna is the daughter
of Nile and Rachel Gorringe. She was a wonderful
baby sitter for our kids. She saved her babysitting
money and put herself through BYU. We love her
and Carl like family!

Family is Everything…
Marci from home health came early
because we leave early for Institute class.
Today Institute was on Moses 3.
Mindy Allridge taught because Sue and Betsy are gone.
Betsy is in Rome at the Temple Open House.
If you double click on the slides, they will
enlarge to be able to read them.

There are 43 slides I will sort  which ones to keep...
We are learning so much about the creation in Moses from the
Pearl of Great Price.

Each slide teaches so much.
What we can't share are the students
comments, from which we also
learn much.

Then

The teacher said she had never heard this
quote of Joseph Smith about when blood
entered the bodies of Adam and Eve and
all the animals.

Then

 Then

We hope we can be good stewards over
the part of the earth we live on.
Then Gary picked us up to drive to Farmington
for Walt's appointment with Dr. Freimer,
the Geriatric Psychiatrist for Walt's Lewy Body Dimentia.

Walt said to his Geriatric Neuro Psychiatrist today in Farmington:
"My old age isn't anything like I thought it would be. I can't do anything!"
Dr Freimer said: "That's not true! You have been able to talk with me for almost an hour and answered most all of my questions..There are no absolutes. Yes, there are some things you can't do, but there are a lot of things that you can still do."
Walt felt a little better after that.
We drove by Lagoon.
...seems like it's in hibernation.
Gary took a selfie when we got home.
We had had lunch at a brand new Wendy's
just opened in Farmington.
I've had an aching stomach since I got back.
Wonder if the chili has caused a little food poisoning.
I lost some of it just before I went to bed.
Hope I can sleep okay tonight.

Family is Everything…
We don't have anything scheduled today.
Walt didn't sleep well at all last night,
so he is sleeping this morning as I work on our blog.
He doesn't know if it's the new medication that
Dr. Freimer put him on or not.
It's Mirtrazapine to help with depression.
The doctor said some patients can't handle it
so he is starting on a very low dose...like 3.75 mg
(which is half of the 7.5 tablet that is comes in).
We'll see how Walt does tonight on the other half
of last night's tablet.
I slept pretty well, so I must not
have had food poisoning.
Tonight is our last war movie for January.
Gary is coming at 7:30 to watch "Mister Roberts."
Mister Roberts is a 1955 American comedy-drama film  that features an all-star cast including Henry Fonda as Mister Roberts, James Cagney as Captain Morton, William Powell (in his final film appearance) as Doc, and Jack Lemmon as Ensign Pulver. Based on the 1946 novel and 1948 Broadway play, the film was nominated for the three Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Sound, Recording, with Jack Lemmon winning the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Goodbye, January
Hello, February
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2019
Family is Everything…

Sibling Book Club
February is Steve's month to choose the book...
Slave Stealers
We ran errands to Costco, the cleaners,
and picking up some prescriptions.
Then we got out suitcases out to start packing for tomorrow.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2019
Family is Everything…

Will it be...
Or will it be...
???
We'll know soon...
We were up early to finish
packing to head to Idaho.
David picked us up early and drove us to
the hotel by the airport...
 ...where Janie is staying.
Thanks, David, for all your help this morning.
 She then drove us to I D A H O . . .
...Ashley was in a high school cheerleading
competition with her Madison High School Squad.
Loved the way Katie--now one of the Squad's coaches--chose to have each girl's hair braided up the back.
We got to Rexburg in late afternoon.
It doesn't look like "fake Spring" here.
Lots of snow and ice on the driveway and lawns.
Scary to walk on, but Michael, Shawn, and Janie
helped us get into the house.
*** *** *** Meanwhile, back in Utah, Jacee and Maddie
were competing at the Utah Dancesport Challenge
at Thanksgiving Point.
From Julie's facebook posts, it looks like they did very well!
Here's Maddie and her Youth Team
 that Julie coaches
got first in their age group.

Maddie with her partner, Ethan.
Jacee and Christian with
friend Lucy and cousin Jasmine.
Close up of Lucy, Jaz, Jacee.

Family is Everything…
Today is Katie's birthday.
Happy Birthday, Katie Eileen Fisher Anderson.
This is last October when Katie's second child, first son,
Diesel Anderson was blessed.
Here is Katie today with Parker, Taitum, and Diesel.
(Diesel is all covered up sleeping in his carrier.)
They spent the afternoon at Parker's family
for the Super Bowl.
I said innocently to Parker:
"What time does the Super Bowl begin?
We have never seen one, so I don't know what time it starts."
Parker was very surprised and said:
"What! You've never seen one super bowl?!"
"I've only missed one in my life--when on my mission."

We love you Katie.
You are the first of our family's 11 February birthdays.

Janie taught Gospel Doctrine on
Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3; and John 1.
The class discussion was sparse to start with
but got better as the class went along.
The focus became centered on
 "Come and See."
(John 1:39)
Christ saw Nathaniel under the fig tree.
Christ sees us under our figurative "fig trees" and
knows our attributes as He knew that Nathaniel
was without guile.
What attributes does the Lord know we have?
Re-reading our patriarchal blessings will
remind us of some of those attributes that
He sees in us.
Janie talked with this Sister after class.
Janie and Mary have been best friends
since Fishers moved to Rexburg in 1995...
...was that really 24 years ago?

We love being with Janie and Shawn and family.

Michael was ordained a Priest in the Aaronic Priesthood
after Church by his father, Shawn Fisher.
These are the priesthood brethren who were
in the priesthood circle for this ordination.
Bishop Abel, Grampa Petersen, Shawn, Parker,
Bro.       , and Jordan.
\These are the family members who were
able to be with Michael for this special ordination
in the priesthood.

And Michael with us - his Petersen Grandparents...

Here's a good photo of Michael at home,
in front of Sam's photo. His brother
who is serving in the Washington D.C. South Mission.

We are happy we were able to be here
with Michael today.

Janie cooked eggs, pancakes, and hashbrowns
for the 8 of us who stayed for an afternoon brunch.
Shawn talked with Grampa.
 Jordan, Heidi, and Ashley got
a photo with us.
Jordan and Heidi live a few miles
west and south of here.
Maya stayed overnight with Janie and Shawn
when Heidi and Jordan drove to Declo
yesterday to see Grampa Budd Fisher.
They drove back this morning.
Cooper came over just as we were finishing an hour's
discussion on the next "Come Follow Me" lesson.
Janie and Shawn did a great job on leading the discussion
about the temptations Christ faced after His baptism,
and then focused on the temptations we face today...
especially the youth like Ashley, Michael, and Cooper.
We all had afternoon naps,
then a delicious Sunday dinner this evening.
Janie cooked a delicious roast beef
Sunday dinner, as she does each Sunday.
Shawn had to drive to Layton, Utah, after
dinner to work out some unforeseen details for their
Utah Classic dance competition there in two weeks.

 Michael and Janie.

At the end of this February 3rd,
we pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...

We share these truths with you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and always introduces His son when appearing to anyone on earth.  When the Savior was baptized by John the Baptist..."And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He also loves us and knows us each by name. He came to earth, and even though He was perfect, He was baptized to fulfill the commandment.  "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway* out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the spirit of God [Holy Ghost] descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:" Matthew 3:16
[* "up straightway" means He was immersed in the water when He was baptized.]
*** *** ***
Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration. He described in his vision "...I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake to me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other--This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"  I think if a 14-year-old boy were trying to make up a vision, he would have God the Father instructing him and not just having God the Father introducing His Son, Jesus Christ. Joseph would not have known that the pattern was that God the Father only introduces His Son, Who then gives divine instruction. This is a further testimony to me that Joseph Smith saw what he said he saw and heard what he said he heard.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet for the entire world today.
*** *** ***
The Bible is the "word of God as far as it is translated correctly."
It is a testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is true and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Church on the earth today.
In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
*** *** ***
Of these truths we testify on this Sunday, February 3, 2019.
