Traces of Time . . . April 29 -May 5, 2019

Traces of Time . . .
(To see last week's log post--scroll down to the end of this week, then the Week of April 22-28, 2019 will be there. If it's not, hit "Older Posts.")
THIS WEEK- APRIL 29-MAY 5, 2019

Family is Everything…
 Walt had an appointment with
Dr. Bryce Swensen, the
head of the Utah County Hospice.
Walt is on long-term hospice.
He felt like he'd seen us before.
He did serve in the
Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission
where Walt was the medical advisor...
but Walt was there Mar 2005 to Feb 2007,
and Dr. Swensen served there
a few years before that.
We then mentioned that
Walt had been a
family physician in Burley, Idaho,
for almost 40 years.
"Oh, I have an Aunt and Uncle in
Burley--Garth and Sam Williams.
My Mom, Nola, is Sam's sister."
Small world!
And, as many say:
"Burley is the center
of the Universe."
Everyone knows someone in Burley,
or has met someone from Burley.
We are so impressed with Dr. Swensen,
and like him a lot!
We stopped at Wendy's on
State Street and had a
late lunch.
Our checkers game had
5 Kings each...
 It ended with one King
each, so we called
it a draw.

Family is Everything…
Marci  helped Walt start the day...
Then we were off to
 Institute
Joseph Smith History
continued...

Joseph Smith History 1:27-75
Any you want to read, can be
clicked on to enlarge...
our Institute teachers find
so many interesting quotes.
I have many extra notes
written in my scriptures over
the years from my reading and
other classes I've had...
like Institute, BYU Education Week,
or even the Education Weeks we
used to have right in Burley.
I remember one teacher who came
to Burley said: "It's good you can
let you house go without dusting
this week while you come to
L E A R N."

 M O R O N I  came...
...and instructed Joseph.
Great references to know more
about Moroni...
 Moroni came 4 times...

Joseph Smith's mother said...
Joseph also said to his brother
once: "Hyrum, you look
more like Seth than anyone
else I've ever seen."

Joseph's brother Alvin believed
Joseph and said to him...
The translation was fast and sure
because it was facilitated by
the Lord.
Oliver Cowdery's exquisite words
are "never to be forgotten..."

It's good to have an
inquiring mind...
Thanks, Gordon, for taking our
photo after class.
We like to drive over a few blocks
from our stake center after Institute
and look at the special "knoll."
It rained off and on this
last day of April...
Those April showers that will
bring the May flowers...
Walt has a good view of what's
happening out our front window.
GOODBYE APRIL...WITH ALL YOUR SHOWERS...
...TO BRING MAY FLOWERS

Family is Everything...
 Happy May Day

We went to watch Riggy J
at his Itty Bitty Baseball camp

He is very coordinated.
So fun to watch this smart
four-year old grandson.
It was hailing when we came out...
but the sky just looks clear in the photo...
Then we had breakfast at Denny's...
with the coupons we bought from
Carter for his high school soccer
fund raiser...get one entree and
two drinks, get another entree free,
we're now saving money!
Thanks, Carter.

About ready to leave...
Karen, the Home Health
Nurse, checked Walt's
blood pressure this afternoon.*
We had a yummy butter-baked chicken
over rice supper, then...
...rode with John and Julie to
Carter's soccer game...
It was cold, but Steve and
Natalie's propane heater
helped take the chill off.
We had our coats, gloves,
and hats, and blankets, also.
...at Westlake High School.
Westlake vs Lone Peak
Julie, John, Riggy, Maddie, Jackson,
Jacee, Steve, Natalie, Grampa, I,
and Westlake fans cheered them on,
...but sadly they lost in
Sudden Death Overtime
1-0.
 Carter and his teammates played
a hard-fought game.
When we got home we watched
an old black and white 1956 movie--
the biography of a famous
Middleweight Boxing Champion.
Photo of the real
Rocky Graziano
Middleweight Boxing Champion
of the World 1944
Thomas Rocco Barbella (January 1, 1919[1] – May 22, 1990), better known as Rocky Graziano, was an American professional boxer who held the World Middleweight title.[2] Graziano is considered one of the greatest knockout artists in boxing history, often displaying the capacity to take his opponent out with a single punch. He was ranked 23rd on The Ring magazine list of the greatest punchers of all time. He fought many of the best middleweights of the era including Sugar Ray Robinson. His turbulent and violent life story was the basis of the 1956 Oscar-winning drama filmSomebody Up There Likes Me, based on his 1955 autobiography of the same title.
We liked this movie a lot.

Family is Everything...
  Graduation from college
in four years!
Way to go,
McKell!
Congratulations to our granddaughter, McKell Rae Petersen, on her graduation from Utah Valley University, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Emphasis Musical Theater. McKell, we are so proud of you and love you so much! Gary is picking us up Friday to have brunch with you. Love from Grampa 'n Grama Petersen - Utah - Saratoga Springs
 MedStar delivered two
wheelchairs for Walt
to use.
 One is the heavy version,
one is a lighter version, but
is harder to push and
navigate.
FRIDAY, MAY  3, 2019
Family is Everything…
 Mike, a social worker for
Hospice, came today.
Walt liked him a lot.
We went to the Black Bear Diner...
 ...to have lunch with Gary
and McKell.
It was great to be with
McKell on her graduation day.
 Convocation was at 5:00 this
evening at the Utah Valley University
gymnasium for Girls' Volleyball.
 Unlike Gary with the funky,
not matching socks, Walt's
were just a bland tan and
did match.
  Alex Boyé - Keynote Speaker
 A singing group from
The Arts Department
sang just before the
Presentation of the
Graduating students
from the their college--
625 of them.
The Commencement the
night before had 5,000
total graduates.
/The gym was full on the left...
...and not so full on the right.

It was great to be with McKell
on her graduation day.
SATURDAY, MAY 4, 2019
Family is Everything…
 Marci helped Walt
start the day...
Jacee and Maddie
tried out for the
BYU Dancesport
Teen and Pre-teen
Ballroom Teams.
They find out next Wednesday
if they made it.
 Gary brought pizza...
 ...great lunch! Thanks, Gary.
 We watched the historic
Kentucky Derby when the
winner--Maximum Security
was disqualified for going
out of his lane--and
affecting the other horses.
Country House was
declared the winner.
Here is what the evening news said:
"The running of the roses
has turned thorny.
Outrage and confusion over
this history-making decision.
The Stewards were in
unanimous agreement.
Many said it was the
right decision. But there
are a lot of questions
over the reversal.
9 Billion dollars was
lost...
2 Million dollars was won
by anyone who was daring
enough to bet on this 64-1
Country House.
The owner of the disqualified
Maximum Security said:
'This is the most egregious
decision in horse racing
history.'
The news clips ended with:
"What has horse racing lost?"
They did the parade below in
the pre-game time in honor of
"May the 4th Be With You"
Here's another take on...
We then fulfilled
"May the fourth be with you..."
by watching "Solo"
Gary gave an interesting
summary of Episodes:
I, II, III, IV,V, VI, VII, VIII,
and the two side sequels
("Roague," and "Solo")
and IX...the ending Sequel
opens on Dec. 20, 2019.
The very first "Star Wars"
premiered in 1977, which is
now called Episode IV.
George Lucas, the producer
(?or director),
thought it would be a flop so
he didn't attend the premier
but was in Hawaii.

Walt even liked it a little
with understanding it more.
"MayThe4thBeWithYou" always!

Family is Everything…
   Fast Sunday
There were 11 testimonies shared today,
and most testified of The Savior,
Jesus Christ.
 It was raining when we
came home from Church.
 We had a delicious Sunday
Roast Beef dinner.
Thanks, John.
 Maddie dramatically
made chocolate
chip cookies.
 John helped her with
the final batch to bake.
 Steve and Natalie and Carter
came over with apple pie
and ice cream for a Sunday
evening treat. Thanks.
Delicious!
 Great family discussions.
Julie shared some of her favorite
moments at the BYU Women's Conference
that she went to with friends this week.
 Thanks, Steve, Natalie, and Carter.
Steve and Carter said Natalie
gave a great talk in their
Stake Conference this morning...
Her assigned topic was
"My Trek...and to tie it in with
the Trek at Martin's Cove"
(Natalie is the Y.W. Stake President
and their Stake goes to Trek
the week of July 8.)
*** *** ***
We are so thankful for The Plan of Salvation
and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ
that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this May 5th,
we pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...

We share these truths as our testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all. He forgives us and wants s always to return to following Him.
*** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things. "He knew he had seen a vision of Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ...and he knew that God knew it. He dare not deny it."
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.
*** *** ***
Of these truths we testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
