Traces of Time . . November 28-December 4 2022

Traces of Time . . .             {Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.} On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and posterity to come.

Family is
Everything...

Sunrise: 7:28 a.m.
Sunset:  5:03 p.m.
It was cloudy and
cold this morning.
By evening it took John over
two hours to get
home on his
45-minute commute
in the snow storm.

Correction for above.
I was just 3.5 hours wrong.
Here's Julie's post from
facebook I just saw:
My husband is on hour three of trying to drive home from his office on 42 South.
What in the world?!?

. Update: took him a total of 5.5 hrs.

Julie made a
"comfort food" supper
of stew and scones.

The lighting of the
Saratoga Springs Christmas tree
was postponed,
but the lighting of the
Draper Tree of Life happened.

Family is Everything…
Institute at 10:00
Camie Williams and Betsy Jones.
I didn't go because I'm still coughing,
even tho I didn't cough a lot and was wondering if I should have gone,
until about 11:00 I had a coughing
spell and knew it was the right
thing that I wasn't at Institute.
If I don't cough a lot the rest of the day,
I plan to go to Lunch Bunch tomorrow.

Happy Family time...As we begin

December, this poem touched

a tender spot in my heart:

I love its message.

and thought you might like it too.

I doubt if it's true, but a

very sweet story.

Kinda like

"The Magi"

The Christmas Coat

A young man was fumblin' around one day

In a women’s clothing store.

He’d found his wife a Christmas coat

And was headed for the door,

When he bumped into a little boy

That looked like he was lost.

He asked “Mister, can you help me

Find out how much somethin' costs?

Here it's almost Christmas

And the nights are gettin' cold,

Winter time is on us

And my mom don’t have a coat.

I’ve been workin' for the neighbors

And savin' for a time.”

And in his tiny outstretched hand

Was a dollar and a dime.

His gaze went from that big eyed boy

To that pretty Christmas coat,

And he finally cleared away the lump

That had gathered in his throat.

He said “Son,

that’s just what this coat costs

We’re lucky that we found ‘er.”

As he turned around and gave a wink

To the lady at the counter.

She put it in a pretty box

And wrapped it up just so

Then went off to the back

And found a big red Christmas bow.

He said “ I thank you for your help, sir,

And I kindly thank you ma’am.

I hope y’all are gonna have a big Christmas

Cause now I know I am.”

Well the young man walked home busted

Except for the dollar and the dime,

Thinkin he’d just have to buy

The coat another time.

He told his wife that Christmas this year

Wouldn’t be much fun,

As he gently took her in his arms

And told her what he’d done.

She said “ Why you old softie,

I wouldn’t trade you for a farm.

I’ve got two or three old coats

And your love to keep me warm."

She put that money in a matchbox

And placed it beneath their tree.

And said “That is the grandest gift

You could've given me.”

The years went by like years will do

When people are in love.

Their marriage was a golden bond

That was forged by God above.

Then one day came some bitter news

That filled his heart with fright.

The doctor told the old man’s wife

That she was going to lose her sight.

He said “There’s an operation we can do

But it puts me on the spot,

Cause it’s quite  a complex procedure,

And it’s going to cost a lot.”

The old man said “Doctor, I’m a failure.

I’ve made no preparation.

We don’t have the money

For that kind of an operation."

The doctor got the strangest look

As he sat there for a while.

And then he slowly nodded

As he broke out in a smile,

He said “Why, sir, you can’t fool me,

You’re a very wealthy man.

You long ago invested

In the world’s best savings plan.

I’ll see she gets the best of care,

She’s going to be just fine.

And the total cost to you old friend

Is a dollar and a dime.”

The old man stared in disbelief

Then he recognized that smile.

The one he’d seen those years ago

On a loving, thoughtful child.

He said “What you gave to me that day

Was more than just a coat.

You gave me the gift of giving

And you gave my mother hope.

My mother’d been mistreated,

Neglected and abused.

But she gave life just one more chance

And it was all because of you.

Now every year she takes that coat

And lays it beneath our tree.

It represents to us the things

That Christmas ought to be.

She says that when we leave this world

For a better home someday,

The only things that we’ll take with us

Are the things we gave away.“

December choice is by Brian.

I have an appointment for every-4-month dental cleaning because I have a peri-gum problem so have to be checked more often than twice a year.

An Oct 3 appt had been made several months before, but when Oct 3 came I was in Rochester, Minnesota for the baptism of  my g-dau, Anna. So had canceled the dental appt.

The next opening was Feb. 3. But they would text the patients when an opening became available sooner. I kept missing calling before the appt was taken, so the office scheduler took pity on me and got me an appt for Dec. 1.

Janet did a great job today cleaning my teeth.

Here are the other three fun gals

who work in the front office...

Aly, Kristi, and Amy. Thanks for your help.

Since I drove by Zion's Bank from
Dr. Greenwood's
office to Walmart where I needed to get
some Insulin, I went thru the drive-thru
and withdrew some cash for December.

When I went to pay for the Insulin, I
couldn't find my bank card.

I paid for the Insulin by cash then
drove back thru the bank drive-thru
to see if I had left my bank card.

The gal who had waited on me said
she remember handing back my bank
card and driver's license with
the pen she gave me to sign the
receipt for receiving the cash.

I had already taken everything out of my purse
looking for the card and license.
So I opened my car door to see if
the cards had fallen between my
car seat and the door.

That's when I saw my bank card
and driver's license outside on
the pavement below the
drive-thru window.

Miracle! No one else had
seen them and taken them.
A very tender mercy!!

First Presidency Christmas Devotional

A Summary of the 2022 First Presidency Christmas Devotional

“Christmas is a time to eliminate arrogance and provocation, to subdue criticism, to practice patience and to de-emphasize differences among people,” President Oaks says

Four leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-day Saints, along with the faith’s

world-famous choir, spent over an hour                                     Sunday night focused on the life and teachings                                of Jesus Christ.

“Christmas is a time to remember that we                                      are all children of a Father in Heaven, who                                     gave his Only Begotten Son that all would                                     be redeemed from death, and who has offered                                   the blessings of salvation and exaltation to                                       all mankind on the same conditions,” said                            President Dallin H. Oaks of the First Presidency during the Church’s annual First Presidency Christmas                        devotional in the Conference Center on Temple                                       Square.

Daily Scripture: But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words. - Alma 32:27
Daily Quote: Recognizing the Savior’s spiritual light begins with our willingness to believe. Every day each of us faces a test. It is the test of our lifetimes: will we choose to believe in Him and allow the light of His gospel to grow within us, or will we refuse to believe and insist on traveling alone in the dark? The Savior provides His gospel as a light to guide those who choose to believe in and follow Him. - L. Whitney Clayton

** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this December 4th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."

***  *** *** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.

*** *** ***
Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Daily Scripture: Behold, this I have given unto you as a parable, and it is even as I am. I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine. - Doctrine and Covenants 38: 27
