Traces of Time . . . July 25-31, 2022

Traces of Time . . .

  {Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.}

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.

MONDAY, JULY 25, 2022                            Family is Everything ...                              Sunrise: 6:19 a.m. Sunset:  8:49 p.m.

Daily Scripture: Yea, blessed are they whose feet stand upon the land of Zion, who have obeyed my gospel; for they shall receive for their reward the good things of the earth, and it shall bring forth in its strength. - Doctrine and Covenants 59:3
Daily Quote: You pioneers must have the same faith in every footstep as the pioneers of the past. One important step of faith for you as a pioneer is to resist going along with the crowd in ways that would lead you astray. A modern pioneer also encourages others to stay on course. When you lead out in righteousness, others will follow you. - Janette Hales Beckham

   Our Wednesday night movie was:

We're ending the movies about

baseball for July with
the 1942
"Pride of the Yankees"
about Lou Gehrig
who died in 1941
of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, [ALS] an incurable neuromuscular illness; it is now commonly referred to in North America as
 "Lou Gehrig's disease".

" Henry Louis Gehrig (born Heinrich Ludwig Gehrig;[1] June 19, 1903 – June 2, 1941) was an American professional baseball first baseman who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees (1923–1939).

Gehrig's consecutive game streak ended on May 2, 1939, when he voluntarily took himself out of the lineup, stunning both players and fans, after his performance on the field became hampered by an undiagnosed ailment subsequently confirmed to be amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, an incurable neuromuscular illness; it is now commonly referred to in North America as "Lou Gehrig's disease".[10]

The disease forced him to retire at age 36, and claimed his life two years later. The pathos of his farewell from baseball was capped off by his iconic 1939 "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" speech at Yankee Stadium

In 1969, the Baseball Writers' Association of America voted Gehrig the greatest first baseman of all time,[11] and he was the leading vote-getter on the MLB All-Century Team chosen by fans in 1999.[12] A monument in Gehrig's honor, originally dedicated by the Yankees in 1941, currently resides in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium. The Lou Gehrig Memorial Award is given annually to the MLB player who best exhibits Gehrig's integrity and character.' --wikipedia

It was sad he had to die so young.

                       Family is Everything…

Here's some quotes I liked on fb:

“I keep six honest serving men (they taught me all I knew) their names are:
What and Why, When and How, Where and Who.”
~— Rudyard Kipling
“Don't teach your children to read. Teach them to question what they read. Teach them to question everything.
~— George Carlin
“Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates.
At the first gate, ask yourself:
‘Is it true.’
At the second gate ask:
‘Is it necessary.’
At the third gate ask:
‘Is it kind.”
~— Socrates

This verse from the Book of Mormon stood out to me today in my reading:
“And now…in the name of that all powerful God, who strengthened our arms that we have gained power over you by our faith, by our religion, and by our rites of worship, and by our church, and by the sacred support which we owe to our wives and our children, by that liberty which binds us to our lands and our country; yea, and also by the maintenance of the sacred word of God, to which we owe all our happiness; and by all that is most dear unto us--…”

Moroni - Alma 44:5 – Book of Mormon, p., 318.

Family Reunion

FRIDAY, JULY 29, 2022

Family is Everything…

Today [was] scheduled to be the

WEPR Gathering in Rexburg...

Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie--
five of our seven and some of their
families are able to come.
Brian and family are not able
to come this year from
Tennessee. Next year he
is in charge, so we're all
invited to go to Shelbyville.
Jen and family from Minnesota
are not able to come this
year either.

Change: Julie & John are

going to carry over their year--

so they will be in charge for 2023 WEPR

Then Brian will do 2024 WEPR.

Updated again:

As of Thursday noon, Julie told
me she and John and
their kids are not going.
She has been feeling sick
for a couple of days and
now has a cough.
So we're down to

Gary, Steve,

David, and me going

Friday noon

from Utah, to join

Janie & Shawn,

Katie & Parker,

Taitum, Diesel, Scottie Marie,

Heidi & Pono, and Umi,

Sam & Sara,

and

Ashley and Joshua.

Scottie Marie is being

blessed on Sunday.

"...where two or three are gathered."

I had this photo of Walt and me

put on canvas for this WEPR.

I love our family and hope
some of us can gather
together for even
a day and a half.

** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this July 31st,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."
Daily Scripture: And blessed are all they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost. - 3 Nephi 12:6
Daily Quote: We have been promised the constant companionship of the third member of the Godhead and hence the privilege of receiving revelation for our own lives. - Sheri L. Dew

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.

The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.

Daily Scripture: This life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection of the dead. - Alma 12:24
Daily Quote: I invite you to diligently learn about and appreciate the eternal importance of temple covenants, temple ordinances, and temple worship as you strive to come unto the Savior. - David A. Bednar

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
