playing for the National
Football Championship.
Thanks, Gary, for helping us so much.
Scott came for physical therapy.
He taught me how to do K-T taping
for Walt's knees.
Scott had him walk around to see
if the KT tape would help his knees.
Walt walked for 11 minutes.
He said it seemed to help a little,
but he is quite skeptical about the tape.
We went to have our car serviced at
Jiffy Lube. It cost $60.00. We think
that is very expensive for a simple
lube and oil so we're going to
Walmart next time.
We had a great serendipity this afternoon
when Dave and Marilyn Gibbons
came to see us.
They've been traveling to see their
kids and grandkids since Christmas day,
in Arizona, and to see Marilyn's brother
and wife in Yuma,
and are at Jenni's in Herriman now,
heading back to Burley tomorrow.
We always love being with the Gibbons,
and hearing about their goings and comings,
about their family,
and about our other neighbors and
friends in Burley.
Dave and Marilyn,
thanks for always coming to see us
when you're in Utah.
Have a safe drive home
tomorrow to Burley.
We saw Riggy and Benson hiding
from the Gibbons when they left.
Maddie's BFF came over
well done it was
and how well
it explained the attack
on Pearl Harbor.
We like this movie a lot!

of man.
I didn't put quote marks because I've
typed this from memory...
I'll say more after our Institute lesson
on it next Tuesday, Jan. 15.
At the end of this January 13th,
we pray you have had a
restful and peaceful
Sabbath Day...
We share these truths with you...

Family is Everything…
We see winter is still here as
we look out the front window.
Walt is ready for the day.
Julie cooked a round cake for
Three Kings' Day yesterday.
This is looking out the kitchen window.
Looking out the back window we
can see the new Jr. High going up on
the west side of Redwood Road.
It will be ready for the Fall of 2019.
Walt in the morning.
Walt took a photo of me, but with the
windows behind...it turns out dark.
We enjoy having suppertime
with the family.

Gary called to remind us that
Alabama and Clemson were playing for the National
Football Championship.
Clemson 44 - Alabama 16
Clemson dominates Alabama for second College Football Playoff title, third national championship
Any national championship win is special, but what Clemson did on Monday night in Santa Clara was emphatic.
The Tigers dominated Alabama in all facets, winning by a final score of 44-16. Trevor Lawrence was magnificent all night long, finishing 20-for-32 for 347 yards and three touchdowns. Clemson’s national championship win was Dabo Swinney’s second at the school, and the Tigers’ second win over Alabama in four years.

Introduction to The Pearl of Great Price
We learned a lot we didn't know.
A summary of what we learn in
The Pearl of Great Price is shown
in 1 through 6 in this power point slide.
Betsy Jones is an excellent teacher.
As in all scripture, the focus
is always on The Savior, Jesus Christ.
Scott then came to do physical therapy
through home health.
Walt had gone down hill from not
having any physical therapy
for several weeks.
We appreciate the work out for Walt.
John grilled New York thin
steaks for supper. Delicious!
Gary brought several different
kinds of cheesecake to sample.
We liked all of them.
We enjoyed the taste test.
My favorite is the Strawberry.
Walt really has no favorite. He's not
a fan of cheesecake.
These five varieties from The Cheesecake Factory
are Raspberry; Chocolate Cake; Banana;
Strawberry, and I can't remember the last one.
They told Gary that Strawberry is their best seller.
Goodbye to our beautiful
blue Christmas tree until next December.
All wrapped up...
...to go into storage.
Thanks, Gary, for bringing our tree
and taking it back to the storage unit.
It's been a great Christmas season.
Thanks, John and Julie, and everyone for
a wonderful Christmastime in our new home.

Family is Everything…
I just posted this on face book:
We're sorting through some photos today and came across these.
Walt and I had driven from Talihina, Oklahoma (where he was serving in the U.S. Public Health Service at an Indian Hospital) to San Leandro, California where his brother Dale was married to Vicki Saari in the Oakland Temple December 18, 1965. We had then driven back to Gooding, Idaho, to spend Christmas with my parents, Arnold and Verna Albertson, and with Walt's parents, Ray and Jane Petersen in Wendell, Idaho
(just ten miles apart).
This was in front of the little home at 917 Wyoming Street (where they moved to in June 1961 after living on Utah Street since December 1957 when they had moved from Wendell to
Gooding when Mom got a job at the PCA).
Daddy later built on and made this a bigger home.
In this photo Mary Jane "Janie" was just 2 1/2 and Gary was 8 months old. I was 27 and Walt was 31.
The second photo shows our daughter, Jennifer, in the white shirt playing chess with her cousin, Vickie Hacking. This is where our kids learned to play chess.
They are in the part of the house that is where the garage was in the first photo. This is the part where Daddy expanded the house making a great family room and built a new garage on the south side.
Great memories of the "old days."
Here's a photo that Roger Dixon sent as an e-mail today.
It's our old Wendell Ward interior from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s...aka "The Odeon." It is still standing on the southeast side of Wendell, Idaho.
We hadn't been able to go to Church in California where we lived from Jan 1942 to Sept 1945 during World War II.
My Dad was not able to serve in the army because he had flat feet, so he built ships for the war at the Long Beach Ship Yards. We had no car to drive to the Mormon Church which was far away from where we lived.
We moved back to Wendell, Idaho, in Sept 1945 when the war ended because my Dad said California was too crowded.
So this was the first time I got to go to Church in this building in Wendell, Idaho. I was 6 years old, turning 7 in December of 1945.
Does this photo ever bring back memories! As a fund raiser from the 1920s through the 1950s, a movie was shown in this building (which had been a movie theater--and a skating rink--before it became the Mormon Church). Every Friday night to earn money to build a new building for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for $1 a whole family could see a movie. It was with much excitement in 1927 when they saw the first "talkie" with Al Jolson starring in "The Jazz Singer."
The Jazz Singer, American musical film, released in 1927, that was the first feature-length movie with synchronized dialogue. It marked the ascendancy of “talkies” and the end of the silent-film era. ... Although widely credited with being the first talkie, the accolade is somewhat misleading.
(Was it 80% that the members had to earn in those days to build a church building?)
There were also lots of dinners put on as fund raisers. What wonderful plays were presented on that stage, Gold and Green Balls on that floor with the chairs all pushed to the side, as well as square dances--either Friday or Saturday nights with the Willard brothers--Evan, Stern, and Chancy furnishing the music and instruction.
Priesthood and Sunday School meetings were Sunday morning with the Sacrament Meeting at night from 8:00-9:30 p.m.
"Those were the days..."

Ray O. Petersen (Walt's dad) was the building supervisor.

Feb. 25, 1979 the Wendell Stake was divided from the Jerome Stake.
(In these records I saw that the Raymond Petersen family moved to Hailey in August 1941. Walt was baptised in the Hailey Public Swimming Pool in August 1942. Shortly after this they moved back to Wendell. In Mar 1946 they moved to Pocatello the end of Walt's 6th grade, where his Dad worked as a brakeman on the Union Pacific Railroad line out of Pocatello to Hermiston, Oregon. They moved back to Wendell when school was out in May 1947, the end of Walt's 7th grade. His Dad had been hired at the Naval Station at Farragut in Northern Idaho as a carpenter. The family stayed in Wendell.)
Seems like the new Wendell Ward Chapel was built and dedicated in the 1960s {exact dates above}.
I am going to enlarge for a better
view of the center of our "chapel."
Later Roger posted this photo of the
entire Wendell Ward.
He thought it was 1938, but I know it
was more like 1936, because Jane and Ray
Petersen are on the back row not far from
the left and they are holding Walt,
who was born in 1934.
My Mom is with her friends, and
she married in Sept 1937.
My grandparents had this photograph.
They are on the right side of the photo--
Dave and Ella Huffaker,
and five of their six children
are in the photo:
David, Verna, Lorraine, Don, and Eleanor.
Don, at age 90, lives in Sugar House.
Eleanor, age 88, lives in Boise.
They are the last two siblings
still living of my mother.
Trying it in a bigger size...
I'm going to have to download in word and make it
as big as it will go on the page to see all these
beloved Wendell Ward members better...
from 1936. ....Most are in their graves in
the Wendell Cemetery awaiting the
glorious resurrection day.
Bless their souls!
The Dixons, Huffakers, Prescotts, Christensens,
Petersens, Dilles, Petersons, Chandlers,
Hulets, Willards, Lancasters, McClures,
Kings, Stephensons, Andersons, Richardsons,
Smiths, Roholts, Rost...
Not sure if the Hunsaker and Barrus families
had moved to Wendell by 1936.
Now back to the present...
After supper Riggy came in and snuggled up by Grampa who said:
"This little pig went to market.
This little pig stayed home.
This little pig had fine roast beef.
This little pig had none...
"And this little pig said 'Wee, Wee, Wee, I want some."
Riggy looked a little puzzled. So I said, "Grampa says
it different than I do. I say: 'This little pig cried
Wee, Wee, Wee all the way home."
That was the version Riggy knew.
Gary brought a file for Walt's desk. That was the version Riggy knew.
Thanks, Gary, for helping us so much.

Family is Everything…
We stayed home all day,
washed and folded clothes,
sorted photos, and I did
a little genealogy work
on the computer.
Mike and Jessica Sager, and Cody,
came to tell John and Julie goodbye tonight
before moving to St. George, Utah, tomorrow.
They also went to tell Steve and Natalie goodbye,
Julie is at her semi-annual gathering
with the Blueberry girls--
just four others of the eight
could come: Emy, Cindy, Jan, Jen.
The three who couldn't come:
Trista, Kim, and Stacie.
This is a superb friendship that has
gone on since they graduated
from Burley High School
in 1989...wow this is
the 30th year!
So Mike and Jessica talked with us
for a few minutes. I told them we
were just trying to find a war movie
on Netflix, so Mike said he would
help us.
Several minutes later he got the
full length version going somehow
through You Tube.
Tora! Tora! Tora!
We had seen this movie before about
the attack on Pearl Harbor.
It is from 1970. We thought it
had John Wayne in it, but
we must have been mixed up
with another war movie.
"In Harm's Way" we
think is the one with
John Wayne in it.
We had forgotten how "In Harm's Way" we

it explained the attack

We talked it over and decided to
have lunch at Jdawgs for lunch
at Thanksgiving Point.
We got in there and Walt said:
"I don't want a hot dog."
To which I replied:
"This is all they have here."
So he had a hot dog for lunch
but didn't like it very much.
We both spilled mustard on us.
Gary came over that evening.
He brought some hanging folders
for Walt's new filing cabinet.
After Walt went to bed I watched a few
clips from "The Doris Day Show" which
went from 1968 to 1973.
I was an avid fan and didn't realize
how much our little kids liked it.
When our fourth child was born on Oct. 12, 1969,
and we told the kids we were going to name
him "David," Steve, almost 3, asked:
"Could we name him David Doris Day?"

Family is Everything…
We went to our Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward
from 12:00-2:00 this afternoon.
Coming home to John's
delicious Sunday roast beef dinner.
Julie brought Rigdon home from
the middle of Sacrament Meeting
because he was feeling sick.
After dinner he was feeling a little better.
Gary, Steve, and David take turns
having us come to their homes on
Sundays for dessert. Today was Gary's
turn. He brought dessert here because
he doesn't think Dad should be or could
walk up all the stairs to his second floor.
He brought brownies today
and smothered them in ice cream
and hot fudge. Yum!
Today he had a Singles-over-50
Fireside in Orem. The title for
the Ortons was "You Can Do It!"
We watched a movie called "Miracle."
Then we read the first chapter of Moses
which has one of the most quoted verses
from scripture in it: Moses 1:39
For, behold, this is my work and my glory: to bring to
pass the immortality
and eternal life
of man.
I didn't put quote marks because I've
typed this from memory...
I'll say more after our Institute lesson
on it next Tuesday, Jan. 15.
At the end of this January 13th,
we pray you have had a
restful and peaceful
Sabbath Day...
We share these truths with you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we finish our time living on this earth.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Only Begotten of Elohim, Who came to earth to fulfill His foreordination to be the Savior through His Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all!
Joseph Smith was foreordained to restore the Gospel to the Earth through the Father and the Son. He is the Restorer of all truth.
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet for the entire world today. We send our heart-felt condolences to him as his daughter passed away from cancer this past week. He has nine daughters and one son. Now only seven daughters are living.
The Bible is the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly. It is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
The Book of Mormon is true and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Church on the earth today.
Of these truths we bear witness, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
