Family is Everything...
Karen, R.N. Utah Home Health came
to check Walt. She fills his pill
boxes each week.
We had Family Home Evening at
The Fletchers.
Sitting on the floor: Allen
Sitting: Linda, Eileen, Jennie, Leslie,
Sharon, Howard.
Standing: Nelson, Nadine, Judy,
and Dean. Andrew took the photo.
We learned "How to be Thankful for
Our Adversities" in Section 6 of
                            Becoming Spiritually Centered from
the series by James B. Cox, manual
                            pages 68-79.
Yummy refreshments...
Sharon had made rice krispie treats and
had me take one home to Walt, which he
was happy to have and to be                                                 remembered.

Family is Everything...
Marci came to help
Walt start his day
Walt tried to go to Institute, but
by the time he got to the bottom
of the four steps
into the garage, he could
tell his legs were too weak,
and we helped him back up the
steps and to the house.
This week we had
Chapters 20 and 21 of
Saints - 1815 to 1846
The Standard of Truth
"The Kirtland Temple"
"Endowded with power from on high..."
was 4x in Chapter 20
and 8x in Chapter 21.

 Sue Spencer taught today.
She is a great teacher.
We love her!
 We love our Institute teachers.
Great discussions add to the spirit.
 Another day of learning more
about the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and His Church on Earth.
 Thank you, Sandy Shepherd, for
taking my photo.
I ran some errands in the rain
after class. Julie stayed with
Grampa while I was at Institute,
getting gas, and shopping at
Walmart. Glad I wasn't there when
the police arrested Tang and Wang,
the guy and gal from a Chinese
Criminal group who bought thousands
of dollars worth of gift cards from
stolen credit card numbers...in
Walmarts in Utah County and other
Walmarts in Utah...including our
Saratoga Springs Walmart.

Family is Everything...
We enjoy being in our cozy cottage.
...and it begins: The Impeachment Trial of Donald J. Trump.
...and goes on and on and on.
We enjoy the rain.
We had our last haircuts by
Natalie on Nov. 16.
So here is our "before" the haircut today.
Jackson took our photo together,
for "before" the haircut.
Here's the back of my hair for the "before."
We also get to catch up on our two grandsons...
Steve and Natalie's Kimble and Carter.
Kimble is in the Coast Guard training to be a rescue
swimmer. Right now he is at the Bay Harbor in New Jersey.
Carter is a missionary in the Brazil Salvador South Mission.
Thank you, Natalie.
You do a wonderful job!
Here's the "after" our haircuts photo.
Wednesday is Movie Night with Gary--
This week...continuing our
January theme of religion for
the Bicentennial Year of the
First Vision of Joseph Smith:
we watched the 2017
docudrama movie
"Joseph Smith: American Prophet"
directed by Lee Groberg and Mark Goodman
A PBS docudrama of the life of Mormon
leader (some believe prophet)
[Eileen's note: We firmly believe he is
the prophet of The Restoration!]
Joseph Smith (1805-44).
Narrated by the late Gregory Peck
from the 1999 documentry.
[Gregory Peck died in 2003
at the age of 87.]
Includes interviews with historians
(some of them Mormon)
and LDS officers and elders.
This is so well done and
very accurate.
Gary, Walt and I learned a lot.
We watched it from our
Amazon Prime account
on Infinity TV.
We liked this movie and enjoy
each Wednesday movie night
with our son, Gary.

Family is Everything...
Marci came to help Walt
start his day.
Gary drove us to see Dale at the
Utah Valley Hospital in Provo
this afternoon.
After the occupational therapist worked
with Dale, the physical therapist
came to have him go to the
physical therapy workout
room.
Dale can look out in any
direction on this 11th floor,
while he's doing physical
therapy and see for miles.
This view had Mt. Timpanogos
in it...although most of it was
obscured by clouds today.
Dale's p.t. told us about the two
peregrine falcons who live on
the roof, and fly around the
hospital tower. The staff have
names them "Riley" and "Ruby."
Dale was wondering what the life span
of a peregrine falcon was.
Gary googled it and it came up
an average of 13 years...
but some have lived up
to 25 years in captivity.

We didn't see either falcon flying by
while we were there today.
We are sorry Dale is having to go through
this therapy that hurts him. We hope he
is able to go home soon.
It's nice for brothers to be together.
After a consultation of Dale's rehabilitation
staff the next day, they detetmined he may
need to have ten to twelve more days
before being discharged.
We gathered for supper
together tonight.
 ...Impeachment Trial of
President Donald J. Trump
still in the news...
BYU Basketball game tonight...
...in Stockton, California
vs the Pacific Tigers...
Pacific Tigers Logo
We won, 74-60. It was within
3 points either way most of the
game until 9 minutes left in
the second half and #5
Cougar Jake Toolson hit
three 3's within 1:30 minutes,
then it was BYU all the way.
The announcers gave Toolson
the nickname "Jake the Make"
after that...he can make anything.
 He ended the game
with 28 points--his career high.
However, Yoeli Childs, just back
after 2 1/2 weeks out with a
traumatic sprain of his right
index finger that had the bone
puncture the skin, made 26
points and 9 rebounds.
The announcers named Childs
as the MVP of the game.
"Rise and Shout,
the Cougars are out!"

Family is Everything...
The mailman delivered the mail
in a snow storm today.
...the Impeachment Trial
is still going on.
 Sunset is at 5:36 today...
Sunrise will be at 7:43 tomorrow morning.
The Idaho Legislature has brought
out of committee a bill to
end daylight savings time
for the state.
Grampa had a long nap today, then we
watched the news and an old 1940 movie
about boxing..."Body and Soul."

Family is Everything...
 Marci came to help
Walt start his day.
We watched an old war movie:
"The Desert Fox" about
General Rommel
which reveals the truth
about his death.
We also watched the 1940 movie

 Wikipedia says this:
"The Grapes of Wrath is a 1940 American drama film directed by John Ford. It was based on John Steinbeck's 1939 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The producer was Darryl F. Zanuck.[3]
The film tells the story of the Joads, an Oklahoma family, who, after losing their farm during the Great Depression in the 1930s, become migrant workers and end up in California. The motion picture details their arduous journey across the United States as they travel to California in search of work and opportunities for the family members...Interesting Finds Updated Daily
The film is widely considered to be one of the greatest American films of all time. In 1989, it was one of the first 25 films to be selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being
'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.' "
 Closing scenes of the film:
Tom Joad [played by Henry Fonda] is moved to work for change by what he has witnessed in the various camps. He tells his mother that he plans to carry on Casy's mission in the world by fighting for social reform. He leaves to seek a new world and to join the movement committed to social justice.
Tom says:
“I'll be all around in the dark. I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look, wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build, I'll be there, too.”
As the family moves on again, they discuss the fear and difficulties they have had. Ma Joad concludes the film, saying:
“I ain't never gonna be scared no more. I was, though. For a while it looked as though we was beat. Good and beat. Looked like we didn't have nobody in the whole wide world but enemies. Like nobody was friendly no more. Made me feel kinda bad and scared too, like we was lost and nobody cared.... Rich fellas come up and they die, and their kids ain't no good and they die out, but we keep a-coming. We're the people that live. They can't wipe us out, they can't lick us.
We'll go on forever, Pa, cuz we're the people.”
The sun came out after a
foggy day.
We were disappointed when the
 BYU Basketball team lost to
San Francisco U 81-80.

Family is Everything...
Walt didn't feel his legs were strong
enough, nor his head clear enough
to go to Church today.
We watched the Tabernacle Choir
and listened to
the audible of Come, Follow Me for
January 27-February 2, plus the
Book of Mormon, chapters 13-15.
Here's what I learned while
I was the
mission president's wife 1995-1998.
I did a study of the Tree of Life.
1 Nephi 15:36
"...tree of life, whose fruit is most
precious and most desirable above
all other fruits; yea, and it is
the greatest of all the gifts of God..."
...the footnote for "greatest of
all the gifts of God" is
Doctrine and Covenants 14:7
"And, if you keep my commandments
and endure to the end, you shall
have eternal life,
which
gift is the greatest
of all the gifts
of God."
The FRUIT of the
tree of life is
ETERNAL LIFE.

Thanks to John for a delicious
Sunday dinner.
It was foggy out today, too.
 Gary brought over Sunday
evening dessert.
 Thanks for the homemade brownies,
ice cream, and toppings, Gary.
We always enjoy being with our son.
 And, we enjoy being together.

We are so thankful for The Plan of Salvation
and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ
that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this January 26th,
we pray you have had a restful , peaceful, and spiritual Sabbath Day...
We share these truths as our testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.

I am thankful for a husband who holds and honors the Priesthood of God. He has been the patriarch of our home in righteousness. I honor and love him with all my heart. We are eternal sweethearts, sealed as husband and wife in the temple of God by Priesthood Authority for time and for all eternity.

Of these truths we testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
