Monday - October 3, 2016

We worked on getting things ready to have our four sons here Wednesday night and leave with them for the
"Vandal Legacy Tour"
Thursday morning.
For Family Home Evening we watched some of the VP candidates' debate.

Today we

Wednesday - October 5, 2016

We finished our preparations for the trip.
Our sons arrived about 10:30 and I was sad I hadn't gone ahead and finished making the stew.  They had planned to stop along he way and buy something to eat for supper on the way, but they were in a hurry to get to Burley, so they didn't.

I had cooked the stew meat but not finished making the stew.
All I got made were the chocolate chip cookies.

So they had cheese and crackers, peaches and chocolate chip cookies.

Thursday - October 6, 2016

We had breakfast at Charlie's...

Then we headed out for our 8-hour drive to Moscow, Idaho,
stopping at Boise State University to see where Walt went his second year of college, having been recruited away from University of Idaho by the Boise Jr. College b-ball coach.

Here is where Walt lived -- Driscoll Hall during his 1953-54 year of college.

We drove a little out of our way to see the Meridian Temple.

Then it was straight north.
We stopped at McCall for lunch - or an almost supper at 4:30.

We drove in to Moscow at 10:15.

Friday - October 7, 2016
This was our main day at the University of Idaho.  I took 129 photos.

We drove over to the University of Idaho Campus at 9:30, having gone to buy umbrellas first because it was raining.

We were lucky to only have a light sprinkle when we were outside walking around the campus.

Here we are in front of the famous old Administration Building.

A real serendipity was that when we went inside the old Administration Building and were looking at the photos hung along the wall, a man came up to us and said:
"You must be alumni.  I'm the Provost.  Would you like to meet the President?"

President Stabin was so kind to talk with us.

After we left here, we went to the Vandal Book Store where we bought some souvenirs about the UofI.

Then we went inside the Institute for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where we found the photo of the first Institute building built by The Church in 1927.  Walt had lived there on the second floor the end of his freshman year there in 1954, and then when he returned after his mission in 1957 until 1959 when he graduated in pre-med.
Gary found a great photo online of Walt and the other 21 boys who lived in the 11 student resident rooms on the second floor, when his brother Dale also lived there.
I will add this photo when Gary sends it to me.

This first Institute Building was torn down in 1967 and a new building was built in it's place, openiing in 1968 I think, when my sister, Janice, was attending the University of Idaho.
The kind Institute Director invited us to stay for lunch at the Friday Forum.  They serve homemade soup and homemade bread for lunch at these forums.  The Director introduced Walt to the group as an alumni who had lived in the old "Tute."

At the end of the afternoon, we stopped at the entrance to take photos by the "University of Idaho" welcome sign.

By the time we got to Coeur d'Alene my camera battery had died.   So I didn't get a photo of the bell hops in their knicker-bocker uniforms as they loaded our luggage to take into our hotel:  The Couer d'Alene.

We walked along the board walk right at sunset, then went to dinner.

Everyone else plopped into bed about 10:30.

Saturday - October 8, 2016

Today is Janie and Shawn's 30th Wedding Anniversary.  They have been two days in Los Angeles at the garment center where they bought the material for their Idaho Ballroom Academy new costumes for the 2016-17 year.

Happy 30th Wedding Anniversary Janie & Shawn
