Monday - October 17, 2016
We worked on getting ready to freeze some apples for apple pie filling.
I typed the invitation for our Serendipity Book Club for Thursday.

We got a fruit plate ready to take to our monthly Neighborhood Empty Nesters' Family Home Evening at Bloxhams.
We wore our University of Idaho T-shirts.
They served three delicious hot, homemade soups in bread bowls. The sides brought by the others were crackers, veggie tray, a fruit plate, chips 'n dip, and an apple cake for dessert.
Scott and G'lenn had the tables decorated in a fun
October/Halloween theme, using these
interestingly shaped gourds.
G'lenn made these darling pumpkins that were filled with trick 'r treat candy.
Scott had us divide into two groups and taught us to play Stupor - (like a stupor of thought).
Here are the questions Scott
asked:

2. Temples outside the United States
3. Temples in the United States
4. The Tribes of Israel
5. Signs of the last days
Team One had six: Ken and Bonnie Fronk, Dave and Marilyn Gibbons, Dan Black, and Sherry Ormond (Steve was doing service for the Lions Club by refereeing volleyball games at Minico)...
Team Two had five: Ken and Bonnie Hansen, Walt and Eileen Petersen, and G'lenn Bloxham.
Team Two won the first couple of questions, then Team One won some. We ended up about tied, I think.

We always enjoy being together. The McCalls were in Texas visiting their daughter Audrey and family.

Walt was going to be on clear liquids today for a colonoscopy scheduled for tomorrow. However, he's been nauseous for several days. When we called Dr. Rea's office to tell his office gals, they said he would have to wait till he was feeling better. They scheduled him for next Wednesday.

Burley 3rd Ward Relief Society Activity Night...
Bonnie Fronk and her committee always plan a great evening for us.
Tonight it was "Share a Fall Recipe" night. And most of the gals brought the dish of their recipe.
It was a great Autumn Gathering.
Nineteen R.S. sisters were able to come.
The tables were elegantly decorated by this committee...
Emily Hill, Stephanie Haines, Lori Barrett, Bonnie Fronk, Karen Taylor and Kaye Carson.
The sisters were invited to tell something about their recipe...how it came to be a tradition in their family, or why their family loved it, etc.

Walt was feeling a little better on Wednesday, so since his colonoscopy was cancelled, we got to rendezvous with Dale and Connie to do a temple session at the Twin Falls Temple.
I get to be in the photo, too.
Walt's turn to choose...so we went to I-HOP.
I asked Dale and Connie to stand together so I could get the mall behind them. Here's how they stood.
Then they did turn around for me.
They are such a darling couple! Walt and I are happy we introduced them back in 2002 after Dale had been widowed for two years.
We wanted a photo with a good picture of the "I-HOP" sign so we walked over and stood by this one. We'll send a copy of it to our friend in San Salvador who loves to go to I-HOP when he visites his Mom in Los Angeles, and his two sons in Utah--Edgardo and his new bride, and Omar and his wife and their darling son--Jaime and Gladis Lopez.

Here's a professional photo from face book. of the Perrine Bridge from the other side. I commented that when we drive across this weekly coming back from the Twin Falls Temple, we don't get to see this beautiful setting from the Blue Lakes down along the Snake River.

We ran some errands today...
Got a peeler at Ace Hardware to help peel apples from our tree to freeze some for apple pie filling.
They had a fun Autumn/Halloween display inside of Ace Hardware. But they also had several aisles of Christmas decoration already on display.
We wanted to get a duplicate key made for our Cadillac but Ace can't make that kind of key so they had us go to the Haun's Hardware store in Paul who does make that kind of key.
I'd been looking for Mapleine in several stores, without finding any. We went into Swensen's in Paul and they had one bottle of it. (Two days later I found several bottles of it at Stokes in Burley.)
While in Paul, we went a block or two north on the intersection to Idaho Produce and bought a 25 lb of potatoes for $6.00.
These are really great Idaho potatoes. He showed us they had been freshly washed.

Then we went over to Bighorn Sales where Rick Larsen had just sold our pickup. Rick introduced Walt to his oldest son whom "Dr. Petersen" had delivered. I think Walt deliever all of their children, except the youngest one. They said Walt was gone on one of his missions.
We highly recommend Rick Larsen, who has been so good and helping us find wonderful, used cars and a pickup. He looked a long time to find this great 2005 Cadillac.
Tonight was my Serendipity Book Club evening at the home of Jennie Egbert. Our president for this year, Bonnie Fronk,
welcomed two new members, Elaine Anderson and G'lenn Bloxham.
She then shared a favorite quote by Pythagoras:"Do that which you judge to be beautiful and bhonest even though you may receive no glory from the performance.
She posed the question to us: "What do you plan to do when the cold weather hits and we have to stay inside the house more?"
The answers
included : "Declutter, (several said) Get scrapbooks caught up, Organize photos with dates and
names on them, Just stay alive, Get history of grandparents scanned, Find more
names for personal family history."
June Tilley gave the Whet Your Appetite quick summary of The Girl on the Train, finishing up by saying "Don't read it."
She added that even though it has a "dark side," it did end on a good note.
Bonnie Fronk gave a delightful book review of Forever and Forever by Josi Kilpack, about the courtship of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Fanny. Bonnie asked for G'lenn to also add some comments since she had also read the book
Bonnie concluded the book review with a "Wow" ending by showing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by Longfellow as Ed Herrman narrated the circumstances of Longfellow's writing this famed Christmas carol.

Terri Smith, although unable to come, had made a delicious pumpkin cake for the refreshments.
Bonnie had had each one put their name into a elegant glass pumpkin. Five names were drawn for door prizes. Here are the winners with their prize--Carol, G'lenn, Marilyn, Ilene, Elaine.

When I got home, Walt and I went over to watch the rest of the BYU vs Boise State football game. Even though we cheered for BYU, we're not sad that the Broncos still have their undefeated record for this season.
We love watching the game with Ruth. Walt says BYU might have an undefeated season, too, if the coaches could hear what Ruth and I say about what should be done.

This was a sleep in later than normal morning since last night's football game went until after midnight.
We did do family history with Kathleen Hedberg for two hours this morning.
Then we just seemed to flit from one thing to another and didn't get a whole lot done the rest of the day. It seemed like Saturday since we'd had a football game the night before.
Saturday - October 22, 2016
We slept in again, but did get to the funeral for Alicia Ward. We also drove out to the "Grand View Cemetery" at Elba for her burial.
next We were delighted to see these friends from years ago who were in Burley 7th Ward when Walt was the Bishop. They moved to Boise and have served a mission in McKlean, Texas after he retired. Philip and ______ Scholes. She is Alicia's aunt.
President Tim and Renae Preston helped us walk on the uneven cemetery grass to get from and back to our car.
We enjoyed the drive out and back. The Elba/Almo valleys truly are a "grand view."
We ended the evening by going to see the Green's "Halloween Cemetery" and other spooky things they have.
Harlen has built all these movable creatures. Amber said that on Halloween night they have 500-600 people come to see all these creations.

Elder Elliott Heiner spoke in Sacrament Meeting prior to his leaving for the Portugal Lisbon Mission. He is a powerful speaker!

Elder Robbie Owens also spoke in Sacrament Meeting and shared several special experiences he has had on his Arizona Phoenix Mission. It was very spiritual!

At the end of this Sabbath Day, we pray you have had a peaceful and restful time.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, as these two missionaries have testified today.
God is our Father in Heaven and knows and loves each one of us.
Jesus is His only Begotten Son who also knows and loves each one of us.
Because He is our Redeemer and Savior we can repent of each thing we have done wrong, be forgiven, and have the hope of being resurrected as He was, and live with our families forever.
Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration and translator of the Book of Mormon which is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
Thomas S. Monson is the living Prophet today on the earth.
Of this we testify on this October 23rd, 2016.
