"Time moves slowly,
but passes quickly."

“The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and posterity to come.

LESSON 3    HIS BIRTH

HOLY-CONSECRATED

Speaking of the condescension of

Jesus Christ, President Tad R.
Callister, former Sunday School
General President, taught:
“GOD THE SON TRADED HIS
HEAVENLY HOME WITH ALL ITS
CELESTIAL ADORNMENTS FOR A MORTAL
ABODE WITH ALL ITS PRIMITIVE
TRAPPINGS. … HE EXCHANGED THE
DOMINION OF A GOD FOR THE
DEPENDENCE OF A BABE. … IT WAS
A TRADE OF UNPARALLELED DIMENSION.
… THE GREAT JEHOVAH, CREATOR OF
WORLDS WITHOUT NUMBER, INFINITE IN
VIRTUE AND POWER, MADE HIS ENTRY
INTO THIS WORLD IN SWADDLING
CLOTHES AND A MANGER.

(THE INFINITE ATONEMENT [2000], 64)

Bishop Richard C. Edgley, who served in the Presiding
Bishopric, explained:

Our understanding of Christ’s CONDESCENSION should
take us beyond our feelings of awe and deep gratitude. As
members of His Church, being called to represent Him
and testify of Him, our great opportunity is to try to
EMULATE Him. …

(“The Condescension of God,” Ensign, Dec. 2001, 20, 21)

WHICH IS THE ONLY COURSE BY WHICH I

 Our Wednesday night movie

 was about the

start of McDonald's

fast food 1948...to

franchises from 1950's...

Info from Wikipedia

"The Founder is a 2016 American biographical drama film... Starring Michael Keaton as businessman Ray Kroc, the film depicts the story of his creation of the McDonald's fast-food restaurant chain, which eventually involved forcing out the company's original founders to take control with conniving ruthlessness. Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch co-star as McDonald's founders Richard 'Dick' and Maurice 'Mac' McDonald...]

It grossed $24 million worldwide and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Keaton's performance."

Gary and I thought

it was fascinating.

Ray bought the McDonald

brothers out in 1961.

"The McDonald brothers' restaurant was a success, and with the goal of making $1 million before they turned 50, the McDonald brothers began franchising their system in 1953, beginning with a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona, operated by Neil Fox..."

Eileen's notes:
,,,but these were not a success until Ray Kroc built
more McD's and maintained the quality control.

The brothers made 'their million' each in 1961 when
Ray Kroc, age 52, bought them out.
Mac was age 59, and Dick age 52.

The rest of the story...

from Wikipedia

Richard James McDonald (February 16, 1909 – July 14, 1998) and Maurice James McDonald (November 26, 1902 – December 11, 1971), together known as the McDonald Brothers, were American entrepreneurs who founded the fast food company McDonald's. They opened the original McDonald's restaurant in 1940 in San Bernardino, California, where they created the Speedee Service System [in 1948] to produce their meals, a method that became the standard for fast food. After hiring Ray Kroc as their franchise agent in 1954, they continued to run the company until they were bought out by Kroc in 1961.

Early life

The McDonald brothers were born in Manchester, New Hampshire, to Irish immigrants Patrick James and Margarete Anna Curran McDonald, who came to the United States as children. Maurice was born in 1902, and Richard was born in 1909. In the 1920s, the family moved to California, where Patrick opened a food stand in Monrovia in 1937.

Careers

In 1948, the brothers fully redesigned and rebuilt their restaurant in San Bernardino to focus on a reduced menu consisting of nine items: In addition to their 15 cent hamburger, the menu would include a cheeseburger, soft drinks, milk, coffee, potato chips, and a slice of pie. Their restaurant was about a mile from route 66 at 1398 North E Street at West 14th Street in San Bernardino. The site is now a museum.

The McDonald brothers' restaurant was a success, and with the goal of making $1 million before they turned 50, the McDonald brothers began franchising their system in 1953, beginning with a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona, operated by Neil Fox.

The brothers drew the attention of Ray Kroc, a milkshake mixer salesman for Prince Castle. After they purchased eight of his Multi-Mixers for their San Bernardino, California restaurant, Kroc visited that restaurant in 1954. That year the McDonald brothers hired Kroc as their franchise agent. Kroc took 1.9 percent of the gross sales, of which the McDonald brothers got 0.5 percent.

Kroc became frustrated with the McDonald brothers' desire to maintain a small number of restaurants. The brothers also consistently told Kroc he could not make changes to things such as the original blueprint. Kroc became increasingly frustrated, and deciding he wanted control of the company entirely, Kroc bought the company in 1961 for $2.7 million, calculated so as to ensure each brother received $1 million after taxes.

At the closing, Kroc became annoyed that the brothers would not transfer to him the real estate and rights to the original San Bernardino location. The brothers had told Kroc they were giving the operation, property and all, to the founding employees. In his anger, Kroc later opened a new McDonald's restaurant near the original McDonald's, which had been renamed "The Big M" because the brothers had neglected to retain rights to the name. "The Big M" closed six years later. Speaking to someone about the buyout, Richard McDonald reportedly said that he had no regrets.

On November 30, 1984, Richard McDonald, the first cook behind the grill of a McDonald's, was served the ceremonial 50 billionth McDonald's hamburger by Ed Rensi, then-president of McDonald's USA, at the Grand Hyatt hotel in New York City.

Death and legacy

Maurice McDonald died from heart failure at his home in Palm Springs, California, on December 11, 1971, at the age of 69.

Richard McDonald also died from heart failure in a nursing home in Manchester, New Hampshire, on July 14, 1998, at the age of 89. He was buried at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester.

The 2016 film The Founder, is a biopic about Ray Kroc and his business relationship with the McDonald brothers, Richard (Dick) McDonald and Maurice (Mac) McDonald.

The first McDonald's is owned by Albert Okura and is a museum.

I am so happy when Gary

can come over for our movie night.

Obituary for Ross Taylor

Ross P. Taylor -- 1928-2023

Ross Pratt Taylor passed peacefully from this life on the morning of September 29, 2023 at age 95. He was born on July 1, 1928, in Perry, Utah to Henry Warren Taylor and Myrtle Johnson Taylor.

He was the youngest of six children and his sisters, Venice, Mildred and Mardean and brothers, Willis and Preston adored their youngest brother. Ross attended Stewart School on the campus of the University of Utah for his elementary and junior high years. This began a lifelong love of the Utes and he attended every athletic event possible.

He went on to graduate from East High School. The circle was completed when he returned for his college years at the University of Utah. He married Jacine Romney and together they had three sons, Michael, Mark, and Greg. Ross was employed at International Harvester in Salt Lake City.

He was later transferred to Denver, Colorado, and there met Karen Wamsley. They were married in Garden City, Utah, the day after Christmas in the middle of a Bear Lake blizzard. They had two more children, Leslie, and Aaron.

After years spent living in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Des Moines, Iowa, Ross left the company and became an independent dealer in Burley, Idaho in the beautiful Magic Valley. There he made life-long friends, many of whom he helped with their farming and trucking needs.

Ross was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many positions, none he loved more than being the Ward and Stake Mission Leader. Ross was honored to receive the Silver Beaver Scouting Award.

Ross is survived by his loving wife Karen, his five children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Summerhill Stake Center, 12120 South 1300 West, Riverton, Utah. Visitation will be at this location from 9:30 - 10:30 with services following at 11:00.

Interment will be in the Garden City Utah Cemetery, overlooking beautiful Bear Lake. In lieu of flowers, please honor Ross by donating to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Missionary or Humanitarian funds or charity of your choice. so did General Conference.

Julia had us divide into

Paul teaches how to

"When we

Kathleen Johnson Eyring Passes Away

She is the wife of President Henry B. Eyring

Kathleen Johnson Eyring, wife of President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023, surrounded by her family in Bountiful, Utah. She was 82.

Sister Kathleen Eyring and her husband President Henry B. Eyring, arrive Saturday morning

for the second day of the dedication of the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple, August 22, 2009,

in South Jordan, Utah.2023 by Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved.

1 / 7

Kathleen was born in San Francisco, California, on May 11, 1941, to J. Cyril and LaPrele Lindsay Johnson. She is remembered by family and friends as an outgoing and fun-loving young woman who excelled in sports and academics, serving as captain of her high school tennis team, the student body president and valedictorian. After high school, Kathleen continued her education at the University of California at Berkeley, where her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and commitment to her beliefs deepened.

In 1961, while attending summer school in Boston, she attended a devotional where she was noticed by a young Harvard student, Henry Bennion Eyring. He later said he was immediately impressed by her goodness and recalls thinking, “If I could only be with her, I could be every good thing I ever wanted to be.” They met the following week, began dating and were later married on July 19, 1962, in the Logan Utah Temple.                   [He was 29, she was 21.]

The young couple’s married life started in Palo Alto, where Henry was on the faculty at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. During their early years of marriage, Kathleen’s faith and understanding of spiritual matters grew as she regularly worshipped and sought peace in the Oakland California Temple. Kathleen and Henry spent nine years in Palo Alto, and their family expanded with sons Henry, Stuart and Matthew.

In 1970, as her husband was serving as a bishop and enjoying tenure at Stanford, Kathleen encouraged him to prayerfully consider the direction of his career. While initially ruffled at the suggestion, he heeded her counsel and received the impression to carefully consider new job opportunities with an open mind. Less than a week later, Henry was offered the position to be president of Ricks College, now BYU–Idaho, in Rexburg, Idaho, which he accepted.

The family grew closer together during their time in rural Idaho, and Kathleen and Henry enjoyed skiing, golfing and playing tennis—even winning the Ricks College doubles tennis tournament together in 1975.

The Eyrings moved to Utah in 1977 when Henry was named deputy commissioner of Church Education for the Church. The family grew to eight with the addition of another son, John, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary. [Total 4 sons, 2 daughters.]

Kathleen’s primary efforts continued to be supporting and offering counsel to her husband and focusing on motherhood, a role her family says she was completely devoted to and viewed as her most important responsibility.

“Mother is extraordinarily talented and ambitious,” said her son Henry J. Eyring. “But her overriding concern has always been to serve our Heavenly Father and His children.”

Kathleen’s daughter Elizabeth Eyring Peters remembers praying with her mother every day before she left home. “Daily prayer was a clear evidence of her desire for us to be connected to heaven; because we are so spread in age it meant a separate prayer for each child.”

Kathleen served faithfully in many formal Church responsibilities, teaching lessons at church, serving as a visiting teacher and producing a newsletter for her congregation for many years. But she is also remembered for powerfully ministering to others in quiet, less formal ways.

Her son Matthew J. Eyring reflected, “Her most important service was quiet compassion for those who had experienced difficulty and sadness in their lives. She would always seek out ‘the one’ without fanfare and help that person feel her love and the love of the Savior.”

Kathleen was a gifted writer and offered editorial counsel to Henry throughout his career and Church service, later taking formal minutes for the monthly meetings with other wives of General Authorities. Kathleen also recorded family memories, wrote scripts for family events and helped co-publish a monthly family newsletter. She wrote a young adult novel and won a statewide prize for young adult literature in 1979.

Henry B. Eyring was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1995, and Kathleen provided support and companionship during his long recovery from cancer surgery in 2005 and when he was called to the First Presidency in 2007.

During this time, Kathleen began suffering from memory lapses, which her father had experienced as he grew older. As her memory continued to fade, President Eyring cared for Kathleen, often bringing her to his office to read and rest on a reclining chair while he was in meetings.

While the disease was a challenge for the family, they recall Kathleen’s loving spirit grew sweeter, and a greater connection with the divine became apparent as she grew older and the memory loss progressed. President Eyring has said, “Kathleen has always been a person that made me want to be the very best that I can be.”

A woman who believed in the importance of education and faith, Kathleen often taught in public addresses and in private teaching moments with her children that the most important thing to be learned in this life is how to return to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. Kathleen will be remembered as a bright, faithful and modest woman who valued her role as a mother and enjoyed a true partnership with her husband and eternal companion.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

THE GOSPEL & SPIRITUAL WARFARE  ·

Edward Levite  ·   ·

The land of Israel has been populated by the

Jewish people since 2000 BC. Here's the timeline,

in case you didn't realize that it is their homeland,

as designated by Lord Jesus Christ.

1900 BC: Abraham chosen by God as the Father

                 of the Jewish Nation.

1900 BC: Isaac, Abraham's son, rules over Israel.

1850 BC: Jacob, son of Issac, rules over Israel.

1400 BC: Moses leads the people out of Egypt and back to Israel.

1010 BC: King David unites the 12 tribes into one nation.

970 BC: King Solomon, son of David, builds the first temple structure in Jerusalem

930 BC: Israel is divided into two kingdoms, the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah.

800s BC: The rise of the prophets, God's messengers.

722 BC: Kingdom of Israel is conquered by Assyrians.

605 BC: Kingdom Judah is conquered by the Babylonians.

586 BC: Solomon's Temple is destroyed by the Babylonians.

539 BC: Persians conquer the Babylonians and take control of Israel.

538 BC: The Jews return to Israel from exile.

520 BC: The Temple is rebuilt.

450 BC: Reforms made by Ezra and Nehemiah.

433 BC: Malachi is the end of the prophetic age.

432 BC: The last group of Jews return from exile.

333 BC: The Greeks conquer the Persian empire.

323 BC: The Egyptian and Syrian empire take over Israel.

167 BC: Hasmonean's recapture Israel, and the Jews are ruled independently.

70 BC: Romans conquer Israel.

20 BC: King Herod builds the "second" temple

6 BC: Jesus Christ is born in Bethlehem

70 AD: Romans destroy the temple

After that, the people were captives to the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Crusaders. Through all of these events, the Jewish people continued to live in Israel. There were more or less of them, depending on the centuries, but there was never a time when the Jews didn't live in the land. They stayed, they built their communities, they raised their families, practiced their faith and they suffered at the hands of many outside rulers, but they always kept their faith. It is what sustains them, even now.

In 1948, the UN established the State of Israel, the nation of Jews. Don't buy the Palestinian lies that they are entitled to the land. It simply is not true. God will also provide a way for his chosen people to live in Israel, as He has for thousands of years. Pray for the people of Israel.

Here's what I posted back in May 2011

about the calling we had received on

April 19, 2011:

"Lest we forget...we have started recording mission miracles from April 19, 2011...the day we entered President Eyring's office and received a call from the Prophet, thus the Lord, to go to the San Salvador El Salvador Temple for three years.

We can only speak in general generic terms here, but we know these mission miracles will continue on from the youngest grandchild in our family up the the eldest--my mother, Verna Huffaker Albertson, age 91."

** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this October 15th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
