"Time moves slowly,

 but passes quickly."

“The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 on the way, and posterity to come.

Burley, Idaho

Our neighbor's home
is for sale via Kirt Melling.

The old King's Dime Store is a
Dutch Goat Auction place--
whatever that is?
 The Burley Temple
may be ready by 2025.
Walt and I lived in Burley from July 1966 to August 2018
{So I was saying we lived there for 52 years. That's how long
we had a home there, but during that time we lived
out of the United States for 9 1/2 years.
Merida, Mexico 3 yrs - July 1995-July 1998 as Mission Leaders;
Guatemala City 2 yrs - Mar 2005--Feb 2007 as
Area Medical Advisors for the 7 countries of Central America;
Buenos Aires for 1 1/2 yr - Oct 2008-Mar 2010 as
Area Medical Advisors for Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay;
then San Salvador, El Salvador for 3 yrs July 2011-Nov 2014 as
Temple President and Temple Matron of the new
San Salvador El Salvador Temple dedicated 8-21-2011. )
We actually lived in Burley 43 years
over the span of 52 years.
Sorry for the long explanation -
but I needed to get it straight in my head.

Now it's about triple that.

*We returned to our
hometown today to
honor a family member...
The son of Walt's
sister Phyllis--
Mitchell Bunn married
an outstanding girl--
Karen Anderson
on Feb 27, 1981
in the Manti Temple,
when he returned to
his fiancé from
his mission to
Milan, Italy.
Karen was a caring nurse
at the Twin Falls Hospital
for many years.
Karen was a loving wife
to Mitch.
Karen was a devoted mother
of four children:
Jason - blind from birth
Rebecca
Elizabeth
Luke
Karen was a true
disciple of Christ.
Karen was and is
forever on the
Covenant Path.
She died from
pancreatic cancer on
September 25, 2025
at the age of 65.

Wendell Cemetery
Graveside Service...
 for...
our niece,
Karen Anderson Bunn
Justin Vipperman,
her son-in-law,
gave the opening prayer.
Mitchell Bunn, the grieving
husband, gave a tender
tribute to his
eternal sweetheart.
 The sound system--
that had been tested
and working, went out
and we felt the
mortuary people weren't
as committed to getting
it fixed as they should
have been.
We were 5 rows back
and could barely hear
everyone. We could barely
hear the soft-spoken
Becca, her daughter-in-law,
but the dedication
of the grave by Luke
and the closing prayer
by Justin Dascanio,
Beth's husband, we
could not hear at all
because the mill started up
and was so noisy.
Luke Bunn, her son,
shared precious memories.
 Becca Turner Bunn,
Luke's wife, who has
lived in  the basement
apartment of Mitch &
Karen's home since she
and Luke married on
June 1, 2019...
(Thank you, David, for
driving us to the
Twin Falls Temple
for that  wedding.)
 ...next shared
"Thoughts & Memories"
of Karen.
{I didn't get a photo. Did anyone
get a photo to share with me?}

Then Karen's daughter,
Rebecca Bunn Vipperman,
who is the mayor
of Wendell,
shared
"Thoughts & Memories"
of her Mom.
She had specific categories...
Her examples...
and other attributes...
I'd like a copy.
She said when she told her
Mom she needed to get
a job, her Mom told her
to run for mayor.

***
We were surprised to
learn that Karen had
driven 18-wheel trucks
with her Dad, hauling
their farm produce from
Delta, Utah to California.

The family luncheon was
at the Wendell Ward on the
north edge of town,
just down the hill from
where my Dad built our
home in 1950.
 Karen was the second
child in a family of
8 daughters and
3 sons who grew up
in Delta, Utah.
So there were a lot there.
Don had counted 210
at the Graveside Service.
 Our prayers are for
Mitch to be comforted
by
The Comforter...
...and the sweet
memories of their
42 1/2 years together.
We left Wendell at 5:00.
*** *** *** *** *** *** ***

 Back in Burley at
6:00 for the 3 1/2 hour
drive back to
Saratoga Springs, and
Gary had 20 minutes
beyond that to
Pleasant Grove.
Janie had 2 1/2 hours
on to Rexburg.
It was a tender day
with Walt's sister's
Bunn family.

Goodbye Burley...

...back in Utah 7:00...
Our rest stop was at 8:00
at the Maverick in Tremonton.
We got supper at the
dairy Queen there
to eat on the way.
We pulled into our
driveway at 9:33.
Thanks, Gary, for
making it possible
for me to still
be part of my friends'
and extended families' lives.

The Lehi Store is so great! It was the first ever Rod Works retail location and is the flagship of all the other Rod Works retail locations. It is such a UNIQUE store. The personality and character of the building alone makes it so special. I have worked here for a very long time (almost since the beginning!) and have had the opportunity to watch this store and company grow. The owners and their families are such GREAT people! I Love Rod Works because it is a fun place to work, and to be completely honest... I have a little piece of my heart in it. I have met so many great people, employees and customers. We have had customers that have been coming to our location for years! From in town, to out of town/state. The Lehi store has such a "Homey feeling ". It is comfortable, welcoming , and friendly. I feel like customers love our store because it is different than other big box stores they may go to. Customers can walk into our store and receive great ideas, great customer service and great prices! They can also find Items that are unique,

that they can't get anywhere else.

For the first time scientists observe

the creation of matter from light

science and space August 26, 2023

One of the most fascinating implications of Einstein’s famous equation E=mc2 is that matter and energy are interchangeable.

In other words, it should be possible to create matter from pure energy, such as light. This process, known as matter creation or pair production, was first proposed by physicists Gregory Breit and John Wheeler in 1934. However, it has remained elusive for decades, as it requires extremely high-energy photons to collide with each other and produce electron-positron pairs.

Now, a team of scientists from Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York has reported the first direct observation of matter creation from light in a single step. They used the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), a powerful particle accelerator that can smash together heavy ions at nearly the speed of light. By doing so, they created intense electromagnetic fields that contained virtual photons, which are short-lived disturbances in the fields that behave like real photons.

When two ions passed by each other without colliding, some of their virtual photons interacted and turned into real photons with very high energy. These photons then collided with each other and produced electron-positron pairs, which were detected by the STAR detector at RHIC. The scientists analyzed more than 6,000 such pairs and found that their angular distribution matched the theoretical prediction for matter creation from light.

Family is Everything…

 Rendezvousing with

three of my sons and

a daughter--Janie, Gary,

Steve, and David--for our

semiannual lunch at

Maddox in Brigham City

First we stopped at

Smith & Edwards  in

North Ogden...

...or officially Far West.

Their motto is:

"We have anything you need...

...if we can find it."

We didn't buy much except

a treat, but it was fun...

...browsing.

We had called on the way...

...for reservations at 2:45.

We got there at 2:43.

Steve likes a little soup...

...with his pepper.

Janie got there just in time...

...when the main course

was delivered.

This is mouth-watering food...

...that people drive miles for

and will wait for an hour to

be seated for.

We didn't order all the

desserts-- just one apple crisp,

one piece of pumpkin pie,

and one piece of banana cream pie,

and vanilla ice cream...

for the five of us to share.

It was a sunny, fall day.

Our time together went way too fast.

Then to the pumpkin stand...

So many to choose from...

Thanks for driving us, David.

And thanks for driving me

to David's and back, Steve.

I can't believe Janie sent

24 jars of peaches

she just canned.

Steve is also going to drive

me to Ross Taylor's funeral

and burial next Saturday.

Gary is also coming to the funeral.

I'm so thankful for all the funerals

Gary has driven me to in

August and September.

Steve headed for his home

in Riverton at 6:53 p.m.

He left his  home about

11:45 to pick me up at

noon. He got back home

about 7:15...so he invested

right at 7 1/ 2 hours of his day

in this family outing today,

as did Gary and David.

Janie left her home at 12:40

noon and got home to Rexburg

at 7:40, so she had 7 hours,

but more driving time

for her.

Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward

of The Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-day Saints

Relief Society

Our wonderful Relief Society Presidency

Joanne Lyon, President,

Jennifer Cheney 1C, and

the new 2C Heidi Wright...

before Relief Society started.

 Madeleine Summers taught

a great lesson from

Elder Gary B. Sabin's

Saturday evening General

Conference session:

"Hallmarks of Happiness"

She shared a touching message

of gratitude for all things--even flees--

from  Corrie and Betsie ten Boom, sisters from

The Hiding Place.

Elder Gary B. Sabin, a General Authority Seventy, spoke during the Saturday evening session of October 2023 general conference, teaching five essential principles that can lead to happiness. The following is a summary of what he said.

Elder Sabin’s talk summary

Living the principles of the gospel can help Latter-day Saints find the kind of true happiness that seems to elude so many in the world. Here are five principles to remember:

First, building upon the sure foundation of Jesus Christ is essential to finding happiness. “Doing so prepares us for the challenges of life, come what may.”

Second, remember that all are sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father. “Knowing and trusting this reality changes everything.”

Third, remember the worth of a soul. “We will never regret being too kind.”

Fourth, maintain an eternal perspective. “Seeing life from an eternal vantage point provides clarity, comfort, courage and hope.”

Fifth, a person will never be happier than he or she is grateful. “Gratitude gives birth to a multitude of other virtues.”

Life will still have challenges, but living by these eternal truths will help us face each trial with greater purpose and peace.

“The greatest blessings of mortality will be found in whom we have become through God’s grace as we make and keep sacred covenants with Him. Our Savior will polish and refine us through the merits of His atoning sacrifice.”

Notable quotes

In God’s eyes, kindness is synonymous with greatness. Part of being kind is being forgiving and nonjudgemental.

We are surrounded by innumerable blessings that we can easily take for granted if we are not mindful. Conversely, when nothing is expected and everything is appreciated, life becomes magical.

How our awareness would change if every morning we awoke with only the blessings we were grateful for the night before.

** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this

   Great Plan operational.
At the end of this October 8th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."

***  *** *** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.

*** *** ***
Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
