TRACES OF TIME . . .
{Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.} On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

I always love quotes about
Heavenly Father's creations.
*** *** *** *** *** *** ***I just learned that one of
our friends from Burley
has passed away.
Vic and Judy Jackman
moved to Blackfoot
when they retired.
Sounds like that is where
they grew up.
My memory book remembrance for: Judy Jackman – March 15, 1942 to March 6, 2023 – age 80
We were friends with Judy and Vic in Burley. He taught our kids in school, and also coached some of them. Judy was one of the most quick-witted people we knew. She knew how to brighten our lives. She also expertly taught us that when our bucket is getting low, go help someone. We knew her obituary would include her fun spirit in it. I’m sure she is happy with it. She did love life and helped us love it, too. Now she is with her eternal sweetheart forever. Love from Eileen Petersen and family—Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen…and Walt from heaven since 2020.
Judith Lois Wilson Jackman [age
80] passed away Monday, March 6th at
Idaho Falls Community Hospital and is now reunited with her beloved husband
Victor Martin Jackman. She was born to Darrell Albert and Gwendolyn Madsen
Wilson on March 15, 1942 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was the oldest of 5 kids.
Darrell Jim Wilson, (Jon), Connie Jane Wilson Call (Ben), Mary Jo Wilson Sime
(Russ) and Sheryl Lu Wilson Griffin (Fred).
During her second year of
schooling in Blackfoot she met a nice young man, with a crooked smile, that
would grow to be the love of her life. After attending school at Ricks College,
she and Marty were married in the Logan Temple, March 8, 1963. (Yes, ladies and
gentlemen, after a short break of 1,181 days they will be spending their 60th
wedding anniversary together again.)
Judy was an educator, beloved
wife and business partner, mother, daughter, devout friend always ready to
liven things up with a quick wit. She was always at her husba.nd's side and
supported him through several moves. Finally landing in Burley, Idaho they
started a journey that would include 2 illustrious careers in education, 2
trailers, 2 homes, 3 loving children, a couple of questionable dogs, a rogue
hamster and a guinea pig or two. She really didn't like having pets but she
loved having children and supporting them in everything. She found a passion
taking care of her second-grade kids, her Mia Maids, and her missionaries. (Not
enough for them to have pets too but she cared a lot for them.)
Judy and Vic are survived by
their 3 grateful children. Casey (Shellie) Jackman of Idaho Falls, Mandy
(Chris) Zeschke of Kaysville, UT, and Dugan (Ben Clegg) Jackman of Boise. There
are also 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren that love and will miss
her very much. She is also survived by her Sisters Jane Call, Mary Jo Sime, and
Sheryl Griffin. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jim and
her loving husband.
Judy left several specific and
spiritual threatening instructions to be followed after she left. She has
specifically requested to not have a funeral but opting for a small viewing
followed by a graveside service and a farewell send off with laughter, stories,
and love. The viewing will be held at 1PM, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Hawker
Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The graveside service will
follow at approximately 2:30pm at Riverside - Thomas Cemetery. Her farewell
will happen in the home her and Vic shared in Riverside. Please don't send

we will always remember her.

Jacee going back to ProvoEileen - showing my right bloodshot eye from theinjection Monday thathit a vessel. The following is wellworth the 4-minute read:Ballroom Dance at BYU
When Alma Heaton began
the Ballroom Dance Company at Brigham Young University in 1953, it is unlikely
he had any inclination as to the destiny of the now world-renowned program. Nor
did he realize that BYU would one day be honored by the National Dance Council
of America (NDCA) to host the United States National Amateur DanceSport
Championships.
Every March nearly 15,000
spectators, along with 26 national judges fill the Marriott Center to watch
over 3,000 registered couples and teams vie for National Championship Titles.
. Some are locals, while others travel across the country to contend for
a United States Amateur title, $48,450 in total prize money, and a chance to
represent the United States in this year's World Championships in Paris,
France.
While each year the
competition is exacting, BYU students are strongly represented. Two of the four
National Amateur titles, American Smooth and Cabaret, have been dominated by an
unbroken string of members from the Ballroom Dance Company for over 10 years.
Many of these competitors have continued their careers to compete
professionally. Six recent BYU students have become national finalists in
four separate professional events, three of which were crowned champions.
Yet perhaps more
important than any accolade is the immense influence BYU has established within
the dance community. Brian McDonald, President of the NDCA, commented,
"BYU is, without question, the most influential school in the nation in
terms of identifying dance as both a sport and a respected curriculum."
John Kimmins, President of Arthur Murray International echoed this opinion,
describing BYU as, "a major factor in the development of ballroom dancing
in the USA." The prominence that the Ballroom Dance Company has achieved
in regularly hosting the United States National Amateur DanceSport
Championships has not only promoted the art and precision of dance, but has
also exposed the entire ballroom world to the influence and standards of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, providing a sterling example of
the aims and values of BYU in everything from the opening prayers to the music
selection and modest costume regulations. Vibeke Toft, a former world
champion and visiting judge, regarded the occasion as one of ballroom’s
"most anticipated events...truly an experience that cannot be found at any
other event in America."
"BYU has a strict
moral code and a sense of spirituality which promotes good will to others and
purity of thought," noted Denys Drozdyuk and Antonia Skobina, former
National Amateur Latin champions. They continued, "It is nice and
refreshing to dance in this atmosphere which is unique amongst the ballroom
dance competition in the USA, it is motivating and conducive to the creation of
art."
Donnie Burns M.B.E., President of the World Dance
Council (WDC) and the most influential figure in ballroom dance, has also
attended these championships. Impressed by the experience, he offered a
renewable scholarship on behalf of the WDC to support the continued efforts of
BYU and the Ballroom Dance Company. Over past years he has been joined by
Arthur Murray International, Inc., and multiple other nationally acclaimed
judges in extending scholarships that now go towards both academic tuition and
touring fees of Ballroom Dance Company members.
Brian McDonald concluded,
"These United States Championships over the last 10 years have become the
very best that America has to offer." As the BYU Ballroom Dance Company
has developed into a moving force in the dance community, it is clear they have
accomplished the University directive to "greatly enlarge Brigham Young
University's influence in a world we wish to improve."

STAKE CONFERENCE – MARCH 12, 2023
Presiding Stephen K. Christensen, Area Seventy
The Area Seventy who presided at our Stake Conference was Elder Stephen K. Christensen, who was called at the last April General Conference, 2022.
STAKE CONFERENCE speakers:Our stake president was the first speaker, followed by 5 other speakers before the presiding Area Seventy and his wife spoke.
I am putting the highlights of Elder Christensen's talk first.
Elder Christensen said that the main concern he sees with this stake is that there is too much leadership. He mentioned the City of Enoch.
He cautioned us that the time has come one more time to "fort up" after he described Fort Lehi, Fort Cove, Fort Cedar and how the early saints went back to the fort each night for safety.
[Katy said after conference: "When I heard him say 'fort up' I hit record."]
Everything is under attack. About every 8 years there is a recession. Right now the economy is bad.
Quoting Doctrine and Covenants Preface 1:17 "Wherefore, I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant, Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments...
v. 24 "Behold, I am God and have spoken it; these commandments are of me..."
Elder Christensen continued, calamities and perilous times will come in these next years before the Savior comes again.
What can we do to be prepared? Nothing more than follow the Lord. What has He told us to do for years now?
I am going to focus on two things. The first one we haven't heard about for a while:
1. Temporal Preparation The Lord has asked His Prophets for many years to tell us to store food and water, and other basic items. Stay out of debt.
The Church does not have wheat or other commodities stored to feed the whole Church. Each family has been warned to have their own food storage plan and have it stored in their own home.
As long as we have been obedient to what the Lord has asked us to do, that is our 'insurance policy.'
[Eileen's personal note: Many years ago, like the 1970s, a General Authority at our Burley Stake Conference said: "If you have been obedient to the Lord's counsel to have sufficient food storage, and in time of need you share it with your neighbors and you run out of food, or if the mobs come and steal it, because you were obedient, that's when the Lord will have the quail come to your back yard."
I have never forgotten that.]
Elder Christensen then gave us his second point:
2. Strengthen our Spiritual Foundation Make our home a Spiritual Sanctuary The basics, as we all know, are daily personal prayer, family prayer, and scripture reading/study.When he and his wife and nine kids got busy on the farm on Saturday and forgot to have family prayer and family scripture reading, often one of the kids would remember in the middle of the day. When they stopped and did those two things, the rest of their day went better.
[Eileen's note: Elder Christensen is an attorney in Farmington, so he must have had a small farm to help his kids learn how to work.]
What do we do on the Internet? A recent study shows that 13-year-olds spend 9 hours a day on screen time. What movies and TV do we watch? He added that this is all a big challenge for us.
Elder Christensen closed with his testimony and witness of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***The 5 speakers in addition to Pres. Erickson,
the sustainings, ward choir, and intermediate hymn took until 11:33, so Sister Marilyn Christensen took just one-minute in sharing asincere, strong testimony, to leave her husband almost 30 minutes.

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence. He loves us just as we are at this very moment. Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."
*** *** *** *** ***Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration. He is the Restorer of all things.*** *** ***President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
