This evening some of us were able to gather to have supper with Jen who is in Utah meeing with Humanitarian groups that have asked her to join them in helping spear head some great causes. I need to learn more about it all.                     Steve and Natalie drove me to Zulu at Thanksgiving Point where we rendezvoused with Gary, David and Julie.

Jen
Steve thought he might top Gary with how many things he was carrying.  He didn't even come close! Guess which pile is Gary's?

Sarah, my g-dau, dau of Jen and Jerry,
ran a half-marathon as one of her
end-of-first-year-at-BYU activities.

Idk what’s crazier- Seth wearing short shorts or Seth running 2 half marathons with me within a month of each other ?!! MVP alert !! (Shout out to Jen Petersen Brewe  and Jerry Brewer  for running it in spirit with us at home!!) My friends are so awesome, whether they watched or ran with me, I love em

Today

SUNDAY, MARCH 21, 2021                                  Family is Everything...                                                                             Today is seven months since Walt graduated from this life to his life in heaven. On February 21 I had photos of his life from 1964-1990. So I will
continue from there...
...but first, here is one of my favorite
photos of him when he was in the
U.S. Public Health Service. They
furnish the physicians for all the
U.S. Coast Guard Cutters. Dr. Petersen
served as the Sr. Surgeon aboard the
U.S. Coast Guard Cutter-- the
Chatauqua from August through
November 1964.
Walt giving our son, Brian, a big hug after the Burley
Bobcats won the State A-1 Basketball Championship.
A1 then were the biggest high schools in Idaho.
February 1991.
Walt - Businessman of the Year chosen by the
Mini-Cassia Chamber of Commerce - Nov 1991. We had gone
to this dinner for years to support the CofC and our friends.
Because Walt did not know he was one of the 4 or 5 recipients
that year, we had his family waiting in another room until his
name was announced. On the back right is his mother, Jane Petersen
Hashman (his father had passed away of a heart attack in 1970). On
the back left is my widowed mother, Verna Huffaker Albertson.
The family gathered at home after.  L-R: Brian, Steve, Julie had
come from BYU in Provo. Jen got there for the announcement
just in time from an all-star volleyball game in Twin Falls. Gary,
and David, on the far right had also come from BYU in Provo.
(Just remembered, that's when we had 5 at same time at the Y.)
Yes, all 7 graduated from BYU. I copied and framed the last
tuition check. Then they were on their own for their
advanced schooling.
Janie had flown out from Champaign, Illinois with
Aimee, 3 and Daniel, age 1.
Walt with Daniel about a year later - 1992.
Walt served as the Burley Idaho West Stake President
from May 1983 to November 1992--9 1/2 years.
He was released by Elder Joe J. Christensen at
Stake Conference that November weekend.
Walt's faithful counselors, Newel Nelson and
Joseph Sagers, were also released.
Paul Young was called as the new Stake President,
and he chose Jack Hill and Robert Kay as his
counselors.  I wish I could find the photos. They
didn't get saved from my old computer to this computer.
Sigh!

Mision México Mérida 1995-1998                                                Walt was called to be the mission president of the                                     Mexico Merida Mission for three years July 1995 to July 1998.                             This is in the Yucatan Peninsula, and                                                             includes the city of Cancun which was a four-hour                                                drive from our Mission Home in Merida.

One of the highlights was in November 1997 when
the Prophet came to our mission.
President Hinckley said he had read a book
"The Sacred Well" when he was young and had always
wanted to go to Chichen Itza. It was a 1 1/2 hourdrive
from our Mission Office.
Walt's 62nd birthday in
the mission home. Mexico tradition
is push the person's face
into his birthday cake.
President Petersen hosted President Hinckley, Elder Perry,
and the rest of the visiting authorities at Chichen Itaza.
Presidente y Hna. Petersen with a sister missionary.

We had such hard-working Elderes y Hermanas!
Our first mission tour was presided over by Elder Gary Coleman.
He was in the Mexico South Area Presidency.
We had beauiful zones --
this is Playa del Carmen.
We drove 3,000 miles every month in
the mission vehicle--a bright red Blazer.
Zone Conferences were held every month.
Jen came at the end of her Guatemala
mission and served in our mission.
October 1996
She headed an Hermana's Conference.
Two of our great missionaries:
Elder Matt Warner and
Elder Javier Anaya.
Most of our missionaries came from the
MTC in Mexico City.
When we first arrived in July 1995
we had 126 Elderes y Hermanas--
100 from Mexico, 26 from the United States.
They were all hard workers!
We still love them all.
Some of our faithful office Elders.
After Zone Conference in Cancun
December 1995
Presidente y Hna Petersen
with Elder Rohrer
...to be continued on April 21.

Sacrament Meeting
Sara Wilkinson spoke on Prophets...
started by aking: "What if
we didn't have prophets?
She shared that when her Mom was a teen,                                                         the Prophet asked the women to                                                                                        have just one piercing in each ear.                                                                                        She felt like if she followed the Prophet in this small request, she would be prepared to follow the Prophet in bigger requests.
James Johnson listed four categories
that a Prophet does:
1. Speaks boldly in renouncing sin.
2. Testifies of Jesus Christ.
3. Inspired of future events.
4. Makes known God's true will and character.
He shared great examples for
each category.

Gospel Doctrine:
Nelson Spencer, class president, thanked
Vivien Oramas for teaching. I think she
started about the Fall of 2018...so
2 1/2 years. She has been to serve
with the Young Women.
Come, Follow Me for March 15-21
Doctrine and Covenants 27-28
"All Things Must Be Done In Order"
Mary Lu Funk taught.
She asked us (1) to focus on
something specific to make
the sacrament more meaningful
to us personally.
(2) To seek personal revelation
from the general revelation
next Sat/Sunday at stake conference,
and at General Conference the
Saturday/Sunday after that, April 3-4.
We are getting a new Stake Presidency..

At the end of this, APRIL 25
I pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...
"Our Heavenly Parents are watching with eager anticipation. They mourn every stumble and celebrate every triumph. They watch and care and bless as needed and as it helps us to grow! If they swooped in and saved us from danger every time we stepped out of line, we’d learn no lesson, see no growth and the purposes of this life would be thwarted. How can we expect to become like Them, without experiencing some of the things that made Them who They are? How can we beg to live with Them when we refuse to let go of worldly things. We are His focus. Becoming like Him should require us to focus on Him and how we can help others focus on Him."
I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and
the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes
this Great Plan operational.
I share these truths as my testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
