Traces of Time . June 29 to July 5, 2020

Traces of Time . . .
(To see last week's blog post--scroll down to the end of this week, then the Week of June 22-28, 2020 will be there. If it's not, hit "Older Posts." at the bottom right.)
I've been delayed for a couple of weeks.
The powers that control "Blogger" have
changed the format for the "better they say."
But it's been much worse for my trying to
use it. I wish they had left good enough alone!
THIS WEEK-

Family is Everything…
I had a appointment with my
Rheumatology physician at the
U of U Health Center this morning
in Sugarhouse.

Gary drove me there.
We had to wear masks.
Social distancing was in effect.

Cars lined up for Covid testing.
This new University of Utah Health Center
just opened last November.
I really like my darling
Chinese doctor,
Lori Ng. She said
everything looked normal
and I wouldn't need to
come back for a year.
I've been in remission from
RS3PE since August 2018,
so almost two years.
"Remitting Seronegative
Symmetrical Synovitis with
Pitting Edema"
It's a polyarthritide affecting older people.

Areana - technician
Gary waiting with me for my
blood to be drawn at lab.
She found good veins.
Used a blood pressure cuff for "tournaquet."
She is an excellent blood drawer.
When we got gas, this pawn shop's
name "Patagonia" interested me because
that's what the southwestern side of
Argentina is called where their
famous ski resort "Barilochi" is.
"Speedway" is not a service station
I've seen before. We didn't take
them up on the fresh coffee.
Also, on the outside wall of that
"Patagonia" was this neat mural.
Also thought these signs were interesting:
"Protect WILD UTAH" and
"Keep PUBLIC LANDS in PUBLIC HANDS"
I didn't notice, till now, that in the window
was printed: "This store is closed but
we're open online."
As we drove out there was this cute
Santa's shop. Way to be ready Sugarhouse.
When deciding what to have for lunch,
I told Gary that what I really liked
was: Wendy's hamburger and
McDonald's fries.
So that's what we did.
Thanks, Gary, for driving me to
my doctor's appointment today.
Thanks, Maddie, for taking our phto.
The following are news clips about

 It was slow going ...

 Karen came to check Walt.
His heart and blood pressure are good.
Thanks, Karen. You are a great nurse,
and we appreciate all you do for Walt.
Supper time . . .
We appreciate all the meals Julie cooks for us.
Riggy got to try out the neighbor's go-cart.

SBC - Sibling Book Club - July 2020

SBC – Sibling Book Club for JULY – Choice by Kelly Baker Petersen                               E-mail from Kelly June 28, 2020                                                                                         Hello Book Club!                                                                                                                    First off, I want to say thank you for including me in this rich and thoughtful book club. I have developed a love of reading since joining a few years ago and have loved always having a great selection of recommended books to choose from!

I'm sure many of you, like me, have felt the weight of the BLM movement. It has felt, to me, like a wake-up call and a push to get me to educate myself more on systemic racism and the ways I am racist without realizing it. As I've thought about what book to choose for this month's book club I've felt a strong urge to choose a book that addresses this topic because it is so pertinent to what our society is trying to improve right now. I know that this is a hard topic to read and discuss so I've recommended another book that I've enjoyed on a completely different topic.

The first book I've chosen is - Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates       Here's the beginning of a review on it - "In a series of essays, written as a letter to his son, Coates confronts the notion of race in America and how it has shaped American history, many times at the cost of black bodies and lives."         It's available on audible and is only 3.5 hours

The second book I've chosen is one I've been reading recently.                                      Cry of the Kalahari by Mark and Delia Owens                                                                          I chose this book initially because it's written (in part) by the same author of         Where the Crawdad's Sing, another book which I ate up and definitely recommend. I have enjoyed reading about their personal and thrilling encounters with animals and how they've managed to live in the insane weather conditions of the Kalahari desert. Here's a short burb about it:                                                                                             "Carrying little more than a change of clothes and a pair of binoculars, two young Americans, Mark and Delia Owens, caught a plane to Africa, bought a third hand Land Rover, and drove deep into the Kalahari Desert. There they lived for seven years, in an unexplored area with no roads, no people, and no source of water for thousands of square miles. In this vast wilderness the Owenses began their zoology research, working along animals that had never before been exposed to humans."                    Also available on audible and is 14.5 hours                                                                  Happy reading                                                                                                                  Love,                                                                                                                                      Kelly                                                                                                                                                                                                    *** *** ***                                                       Steve's reply:                                                                                                     Hi Kelly,                                                                                         Thank you for selecting your books!  I’m very interested to read more about the race issue. That is a very timely selection.

I read “Where the Crawdads Sing” and loved it. So, I’m also excited about your second book also.
Thank you for being strong and contributing member of the book club!  It’s fun and bonding to read others book selections and to see the comments and reactions to each book.                                                                                                                        Hope to see you at the WEPR!                                                                                          Best,     Steve                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         *** *** ***

"...this nation...will never fail."

Harold B. Lee on future of the United Stat:

"Men may fail in this country, earthquakes may come, seas may heave beyond their bounds, there may be great drought, disaster, and hardship, but this nation, founded on principles laid down by men whom God raised up, will never fail. This is the cradle of humanity, where life on this earth began in the Garden of Eden. This is the place of the new Jerusalem. This is the place that the Lord said is favored above all other nations in all the world. This is the place where the Savior will come to His temple. This is the favored land in all the world. Yes, I repeat, men may fail, but this nation won’t fail. I have faith in America; you and I must have faith in America, if we understand the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are living in a day when we must pay heed to these challenges.

I plead with you not to preach pessimism. Preach that this is the greatest country in all the world. This is the favored land. This is the land of our forefathers. It is the nation that will stand despite whatever trials or crises it may yet have to pass through.

So good to have Cliff Dutson be able to come...

I couldn't get a picture of the kids' bicycle
parade go by.

If you look closely, there is a child on a bicycle
going by in the background.
Everyone just enjoyed talking to each other.

Sharon Howell and Linda Hartley are two of
the new friends I have now
in the ward, whom I've gotten
to know better from our
Ladies' Lunch.
We're getting ready to leave...

...when John photo-bombed our picture.
                                Home to rest...
                                Marci came to help.
Gary brought some treats for us.
...what's more American than apple pie?!
                                 Thanks, Gary.
Julie and John did some fire works.

that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this July 5th,
we pray you have had a

We share these truths as our testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
