Traces of Time . . . July 6-12, 2020

Traces of Time . . .
(To see last week's blog post--scroll down to the end of this week, then the Week of June 29-July 5, 2020 will be there. If it's not, hit "Older Posts." at the bottom right.)
I've been delayed for a couple of weeks.
The powers that control "Blogger" have
changed the format for the "better they say."
But it's been much worse for my trying to
use it. I wish they had left good enough alone!
THIS WEEK-
JULY 6-12, 2020

MONDAY, JULY 6, 2020
Family is Everything…
 Karen, Walt's long-term hospice
nurse, comes every
Monday and Thursday.
Natalie came to cut our hair.
She does such a great job.
Thank you, Natalie.
We sure to appreciate you
helping us.
 Max is always sad when
Julie is out of town.

Family is Everything…
On this date in history - 128 years ago,
July 7, 1891, my Grampa Huffaker was born.
Simpson David Huffaker
Here he is in 1944 at age 53 with
Ella Morris Huffaker,
his eternal sweetheart.
He was 6'4" or 6'5"
She was just barely 5'.
She is standing 2 steps higher on
the front steps than he is.
Here they are in the 1960s in
their 70's.
They were both born in 1891.
Their 50th wedding anniversary
May 29, 1963 in Wendell, Idaho.
I couldn't be there because
Walt and I lived in St. Louis
and our first baby was
due in June.
I was able to be at their 60th wedding anniversary
May 29, 1973 in Wendell, Idaho
I look forward to seeing my Grampa Huffaker
in heaven, along with Grama Huffaker,
and my aunts and uncles.
They had six children: Morris, David,
Verna--my Mom--, Lorraine,
Don and Eleanor.
Just my Uncle Don and Aunt Eleanor
are still living. Don in Sugarhouse, Utah,
and Eleanor in Boise, Idaho.
I am thankful for the heritage I have
from my parents, grandparents,
great-grandparents, and beyond.
I pray I may bring honor to the
good name they have given me.
(Verna and Arnold--my Mom and Dad--
are seated in the front right side.
Mom is holding our son Brian, who is
just two months old.)
So we have Janie, Gary, Steve,
David, Julie, and Brian with us.
I'm holding Julie, the boys are in
the red shirts, and Janie is sitting
in front of Grama Huffaker.

Back to today...July 7, 2020
Malt start the Marci helped Walt
start his day.
Jackson mows the lawn really well.
...then it was time for friends
to come over...
...first Spencer and Jacob...
...then Zander.
Zander said he and Jackson
were ahead in Axis and Allies.
They are four great amigos!
Guess what Walt and I watched...
H A M I L T O N
John's sister, Sherri, is visiting from Houston
Max is vying for Walt's chair.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 8, 2020
Family is Everything…
Max still in the chair...
Walt might be sharing a small
piece of bacon with Max.
Happy dog...lucky one, too!
Walt fell today. He didn't get hurt.
Jackson helped me get him
up into a chair.
Jackson was so good with Walt when
he was on the floor, saying:
"You're okay, Grampa. We're
going to get you up."
Since we couldn't get Grampa up at
first, while I was calling Walt's nurse,
Jackson got a pillow and blanket
for his Grampa.
Karen told me how to best get
him up by getting a chair to
lift him up into.
Then Jackson helped him
walk into the bedroom.
We watched the second half of
Hamilton tonight "with Gary."
Here are my two favorite reviews
of Hamilton  by theatre citics:

Reviewing the Broadway production in The New York TimesBen Brantley wrote, "I am loath to tell people to mortgage their houses and lease their children to acquire tickets to a hit Broadway show. But Hamilton, directed by Thomas Kail and starring Mr. Miranda, might just about be worth it. ... Washington, Jefferson, Madison—they're all here, making war and writing constitutions and debating points of economic structure. So are Aaron Burr and the Marquis de Lafayette. They wear the clothes (by Paul Tazewell) you might expect them to wear in a traditional costume drama, and the big stage they inhabit has been done up (by David Korins) to suggest a period-appropriate tavern, where incendiary youth might gather to drink, brawl and plot revolution."[83]

In Time Out New YorkDavid Cote wrote, "I love Hamilton. I love it like I love New York, or Broadway when it gets it right. And this is so right. A sublime conjunction of radio-ready hip-hop (as well as R&B, Britpop and trad showstoppers), under-dramatized American history and Miranda's uniquely personal focus as a first-generation Puerto Rican and inexhaustible wordsmith, Hamilton hits multilevel culture buttons, hard. ... The work's human drama and novelistic density remain astonishing." Cote chose Hamilton as a Critics' Pick, and gave the production five out of five stars.[1]

Family is Everything…
 W E P R in
One week. . .
All of our children and most of our
grandchildren and g-gc will be
together for the
Walt and Eileen Petersen Family Reunion
July 16-17-18.
Walt's having a hard time walking today.
Marci is helping him.
Some guys are putting new pavement
in the worn out road.
Karen checked Walt at his bed side today.
His blood  pressure is 126/60, temp 97.7.
As Karen drove away, we could see the
lemonade stand the Buchanan girls
have set up.
Max sure likes Walt's chair.
...but he's mostly watching for
Julie to come home.
FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2020
Family is Everything…
Supposed to be about 97 degrees today.
 Our magnet board...
...but it's only 92 degrees at 2:54 this afternoon.
I think sunset is about 9:01 p.m. but
it's still this light at 9:20 tonight.
Walt slept a lot today, but he was so
tired by 8:30 that he wanted to go
to bed then.

Family is Everything…
WEPR Update from Steve who
is in charge of the family reunion this
year July 16-17-18 with the
theme "TOP GUN."
He texted this to the family today:
"One slight complication. Natalie, her brother Scott, and I got up early yesterday (Saturday) morning to get the "good water" on Bear Lake.
We are at Nat's family's reunion.
I was attempting to slalom waterski for the first time in many years. During the attempt, I tore my hamstring.
I can hobble around, but my activity level will be severely limited.
On the positive side, my vocal cords were not effected. So I will be spewing incessant smack talk the whole time!!"
See you soon. ðŸ˜Ž
We are having a quiet day today.
...but 14 years ago, in 2006 we
were with the Ogdens and
at Lake Atilan in Guatemala...

We are so thankful for The Plan of Salvation

At the end of this July 12th,
we pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual

We share these truths as our testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
