Family is Everything…
Here in Bear Lake
with Ross and Karen,
Darrell and MaryAnn
Ross told us some interesting
things while he was on the
high perch.
We talked and talked and...
...talked some more!
MaryAnn and Karen split
an order of
Chicken quesadillas...
I had a beef enchilada, and
I think Ross had an enchilada, too.
Walt had a taco,
and Darrel had a taco salad.
Everything was delicious!
Fried ice cream to
top it all off...
Cafe Sabor...a great place!
Darrell took a photo so I could
be in the picture.
We then went back to the lovely
condo where we watched
"The Count of Monte Cristo,"
the movie made in 2002,
from the novel by
Alexander Dumas.
Intense!
It was Darrell's DVD.
He said it's his favorite movie.

It's great catching up on everyone's
lives and what's happening in our
friends lives.

Family is Everything...
We had a delicious breakfast
casserole made by MaryAnn.
We packed and checked out of the
condo by noon, then stopped at
the Chevron Station's general store
at the bottom of Logan Canyon for
their famous Raspberry Milkshake.
(The gals who make the shakes there
said they have been voted the
#1 Raspberry Milkshake place
in Bear Lake. Their secret is
that they use fresh raspberries
and hard ice cream. All the
other places use soft ice cream.)
Photos together...
We don't get to be together
very often.
The "Light House..."
Beautiful Bear Lake...
We had the famous raspberry milkshakes
at the Chevron stop at the bottom
of Logan Canyon.
Each couple split a milkshake...
Darrell has such fun stories,
and helps us all...
We six had such fun together...
It's hard to end these
wonderful three days...
...days not to be forgotten.
Ross and Karen,
we love you!
Thank you for hosting this
get-together at Bear Lake
in your time share at Wyndham.
Darrell and MaryAnn,
we love you.
Thank you for everything!
We loved being with these
long-time friends!
Then we followed Darrell and Mary Ann
across the Idaho border, throughSt. Charles, Paris, Montpelier.
and at Pocatello they went on to Burley
and we headed to Rexburg to be with
our firstborn, Janie, her husband, Shawn,
and the four of their seven children who
are currently there.
We asked Janie what the population of Rexburg
is. She thought it was listed at about 26,000, but
there are 20,000 students at BYU-Idaho, so that
seems like the total population with the permanent,
local residents should be higher.
Here's some info I got from Wikipedia.
Rexburg is a city in Madison County, Idaho, United States. The population was 25,484 at the 2010 census, up from 17,257 in 2000. The city is the county seat of Madison County and its largest city. The city is home to Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-Idaho), a private institution operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
Rexburg was severely damaged by the Teton Dam Flood in June 1976. The
Teton River flowed through northern Rexburg, and left most of the city
underwater for several days after the Teton Dam ruptured. A museum dedicated to
the Teton Dam Flood and the history of Rexburg and the area, located in the
basement of the Rexburg Tabernacle, has been a major city landmark for decades.
When the Rexburg Idaho Temple was dedicated in 2008, Rexburg became the third city in Idaho with an LDS temple.
Rexburg leads the country in the number of pet schnauzers per capita. According to the American Kennel Club, Schnauzer page, on average, there is one schnauzer for every 6.12 people in the city. The next highest schnauzer city is Orono, Maine at one schnauzer per 7.38 people.
Geography
Much of the city, including BYU-Idaho and the LDS Church's Rexburg Idaho Temple, rests on top of a shield volcano just north of Rigby, ID. Eruptions are not expected in the near future so far south; Yellowstone National Park and Island Park are thought to be the most likely settings for future volcanic activity in the area. Many different types of volcanoes exist near Rexburg, including cinder cones, spatter cones, other shield volcanoes, and volcanic fissures. There are lava fields to the west and south of Rexburg, the results of open fissure eruptions from about two thousand years ago. The nearby Craters of the Moon National Monument presents the most obvious features of this recent activity. Sediment deposits enriched by volcanism make the surrounding area famous for its production of large starch-rich potatoes.
Rexburg is close to the St. Anthony Sand Dunes, the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park and the Teton Range.
Climate [long, cold, winter]
Rexburg experiences a humid continental climate with cold winters and hot summers - though even in the summer, nights are chilly and frosts have occurred in all months of the year. The average snow cover peaks at around 9 inches whilst the heaviest snowfall in one month was 43.5 inches in December 1983.

U.S. Decennial Census
|
City officials have contested the census
figures on the grounds that many college students were out of town while census
workers were counting Rexburg's population.
It is estimated that 95 percent of
Rexburg's population are members of the LDS Church.
2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were
25,484 people, 7,179 households, and 4,925 families residing in the city.
2000 census
As of the census of 2000, there were
17,257 people, 4,274 households, and 2,393 families residing in the city.
Government
Politics
Rexburg has been referred to as the "reddest place in
America," owing to the area's
strong conservative majority and political trends. Some political experts have
considered Rexburg, Idaho, the true antithesis of San Francisco, America's liberal
bastion. Since 1980, no
Republican presidential candidate has won less than 57 percent of the county
vote. In that same period, Republican presidential candidates polled more than
90 percent of the county's vote on three occasions: Ronald Reagan in 1984, George W. Bush in 2004 and Mitt Romney in 2012. John McCain came close to this
level in 2008, drawing 85 percent of the vote.
Higher education
Rexburg is home to BYU-Idaho, a private
institution operated by the LDS Church. The university began as a small high school-level
academy in 1888 and was eventually established as Ricks College, in honor of Mormon pioneer and city
founder, Thomas E. Ricks. On August 10, 2001, it
officially became a four-year university and assumed the
name BYU-Idaho.

stopped in Poky for gas.
We had lunch at Tremonton at Mickey D's.
We didn't want to take the time to wait at
Maddox because it rained on us all the way,
and we didn't want to be in the 5pm traffic
thru the Salt Lake corridor. But we were in it
anyway at 3:30 on.... We got home about 4:15.
What a great road trip.
Thanks to all who made it so
wonderful!
It's nice to go traveling,
but it's also nice to get home!
