Traces of Time . . .
(To see last week's blog post--scroll down to the end of this week, then
the Week of July 29-August 4, 2019 will be there.
If it's not, hit "Older Posts." at the bottom right.)
THIS WEEK-
AUGUST 5-11, 2019
MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2018

Family is Everything…
Julie, Jacee, and Maddie left this
morning for girls' camp.

I had an appointment with my internist,
Dr. Wallin.
When we were walking down the hall
to the elevator after my appointment,
Walt said: "I really like your internist."
"I do, too," I replied.
It's 4:10 in the afternoon right now and we're going to the club house to ride the stationery bicycles.
Walt was able to go 20 minutes
without his knees hurting...
We are tickled by this note that
Maddie left for us all to
take good care of her
new kitten: "Pepper."
John's home from work and sounds like he and Riggy are building something.

Family is Everything…
  Marci here...
 Karen here...

 Karen, R.N. takes good
care of Walt.
We are always happy to have
Lorna stop in to see us.
She and Carl are getting ready
to have a family reunion at
their home in West Valley City
starting the end of this week
and ending the end of
next week.
John grilled steaks for Jackson,
Riggy, him, and us tonight.
Delicious!

Family is Everything...
We had a great visit with our
good friends, Paul Brown
and his son Dave.
 Paul was Walt's executive secretary
when Walt was stake president,
May 1983 to Nov 1992.
Ralph Rasmussen, who was
Walt's second counselor until
Ralph moved to Utah Valley,
said that Paul took the
calling of executive
secretary to a whole
new level.
We loved talking with Paul and
Dave this morning. It was
interesting to hear more
about Paul and Barbara's
time in China as
they went with the BYU group
that taught English to
medical, dental, and other
 students. They were there
almost a year--about 2001
or 2002. Dave got to go
on a 9-day tour with
them of the Southwestern
side of China when the
school was out for a break.
The BYU Idaho Dance Alliance
Tour Team has finished a 16-day
tour of performances through
Virginia, North and South Carolina,
and Washington, D.C.
Shawn has been over the
Ballroom Department at Ricks,
which then became BYU-I,
since the fall of 1996.
Janie teaches ballroom classes
at BYU-I and is the head of
the Idaho Ballroom Academy
(which is separate from the
University.)
Their daughter, Heidi, also
traveled with them on this
tour as part of the
BYU-I Tour Team.
The team was well received
at each performance.
Congratulations on another
great tour!
We got to exercise again today.
We are lucky to have such
a great facility to go to.

Family is Everything...
Highlight of the Week:
CARTER RECEIVES HIS
MISSION CALL
Carter received his mission call via
e-mail Tuesday morning, but his
Mom was in Madison. Wisconsin at the
National Cross Fit Championships...
so Carter waited till she got back
before opening the e-mail tonight
at 8:00 p.m.
"Elder Petersen, you are called to the
Brazil Salvador South Mission,
to serve for 24 months..."

 Carter immediately went over and
hugged his Mom, then his Dad...
...then others.
Then he went back to the computer
and continued reading
"You will enter the
Brazil MTC October 30."
Then he came over and hugged
us--his
Grampa 'n Grama Petersen.
His sister and brother-in-law,
Kelsey and Josh were there
with their dog, Moose.
Carter's sister Cortney was also
there.
Carter's Uncle Gary was there.
Uncle John and Aunt Julie,
and cousins Jacee, Jackson, Maddie,
and Rigdon also were there.
Carter's Aunt Julie Black Petersen
and his cousin Anna had driven
down from Draper. His Uncle David
was on call and unable to come.
His brother Kimble, who is in New Jersey
in the Coast Guard was on face chat
to hear where Carter was called.
Here's Kimble with Natalie.

His Grandparents, Bert and Peggy
Smith, who live in Holbrook, Idaho
were also on face chat.
Gary had brought his big world map
which they taped to the garage door,
and many people wrote their guess
and had put it on the map.
(photo of Carter by map)
Grampa Petersen had guessed
the south part of Brazil--
so he had come the closest.
(Photo of Carter with us.)

 Many friends came...
soccer friends and other
high school friends.
Some of his soccer buddies
who are at Snow College on
the soccer team, left Ephraim
when their soccer practice
ended at six o'clock tonight,
and drove up to be with
Carter for this milestone
day in his life.
Thanks, Gary for driving us over
and back to be with Carter
when he opened his mission call.

the United Stated are not
allowed to be there 24 months.
They are just allowed 22 and a half months.]
October 30, 2019
to about September 15, 2021
Elder Petersen
will be a great missionary!

Family is Everything...
Marci brought Laura who is training with
Utah Home Health and Hospice.
Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward
Lunch Bunch was today at
Chili's. It's a fun time to be
together and just talk with each other.
Here's Sharon, Kaye, and Mary Ann.
 We had good service.
Several of the gals ordered chips
'n salsa, and chips 'n dip to share
with everyone.
The menu is so varied, it's hard
to decide what to order. Today
I got the chili soft tacos, with
a tossed salad. Wish I'd tried
their cole slaw. In some places the
cole slaw is yummy, other places
not so much.
A couple of us were brave and
ordered the Mini-Molten-Lava cake
that came with our entrtee for
just $2.49 extra.  We did get
extra spoons and offered
everyone a bite.
Jennie had to get back to work
before we could take the group
photo, so I got her
photo with Kathie.
Here's from one end of the table...
Here's from the other end...
And here are nine of the eleven
who could stay till all the tickets
were taken care of...
Left to right: Sharon, Tammy, Kaye,
Eileen, Judy, Susan, Linda,
Val, and Kathie.
Jennie and Mary Ann were the
other two who had been able
to come today.
Thanks, gals, it's always a great time
to be together. And, thanks, Linda,
for driving me over with you.

We missed those who were unable
to come today.
Sandi, we hope you are feeling better.

One year Ava Gardner was voted the "most beautiful woman in the world."

We read a couple chapters for the

We also read a chapter in 2 Nephi.

Family is Everything…
 we bicycled today at our
club house here in
Saratoga Springs
  Walt did 20 minutes, and
I did 30 minutes. We are
thankful for the up-to-date
exercise equipment that
is available here in our
residential area.
  We are thankful for modern
medicine and the walkers
available for us to walk
with the infirmities we
have in our advanced
years of 85 and 80.
Maddie came in to show us
the crazy hairdo she had
just come up with.
She is a darling young woman,
always busy, reads a lot,
bakes cookies or brownies
often--from scratch. She is
a joy to be around.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 2019
Family is Everything…
Laura came in Marci's place from Utah Home
Health and Hospice to help Walt start the day.
we read the rest of our
Come, Follow Me scriptures
for August 5-11
Romans 1-6
"The Power of God
Unto Salvation."
Paul, the Apostle, taught
us a lot about justification
and sanctification.
We must have been really tired
today because we had a
2 1/2 hour nap.  Usually
we only sleep for about an
hour in the daytime.
Then we saw on the news that
today is "National Lazy Day."
We also watched a Shirley Temple
movie from the 1940s--
"Kathleen" when she was
age 12 or 13.
Shirley Temple Black (April 23, 1928 – February 10, 2014) was an American actress, singer, dancer, businesswoman, and diplomat who was Hollywood's number one box-office draw as a child actress from 1935 to 1938. As an adult, she was named United States ambassador to Ghanaand to Czechoslovakia, and also served as
Temple began her film career at the age of three in 1932. Two years later, she achieved international fame in Bright Eyes, a feature film designed specifically for her talents. She received a special Juvenile Academy Award in February 1935 for her outstanding contribution as a juvenile performer in motion pictures during 1934.
Film hits such as Curly Top and Heidi followed year after year during the mid-to-late 1930s. Temple capitalized on licensed merchandise that featured her wholesome image; the merchandise included dolls, dishes, and clothing. Her box-office popularity waned as she reached adolescence. She appeared in 14 films from the ages of 14 to 21.
Temple retired from film in 1950 at the age of 22.

for a fun evening with you,
Cortney, and Carter.
Steve had a few minutes to
talk with Julie and John.

We are so thankful for The Plan of Salvation
and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ
that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this August 11th,
we pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...

We share these truths as our testimony to you...
This was posted today by Gloria Robins,
a friend from Burley, Idaho.
It describes our feelings very well.
Below is the testimony Walt and I
share with you each Sabbath Day:
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when
we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.
*** *** ***
Of these truths we testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
