Traces of Time . . .

THIS WEEK - SEPTEMBER 3-9, 2018

mondAy, september 32018
John and Jackson just got home from Burley where John's Mom, Vicki, helped them can via pressure cooker the green beans that John grew in his garden plot.

tueSDAY, SEPTEMBER 42018

Rigdon is 4 years old today!

Happy Birthday, Riggy
Donuts and chocolate milk
for birthday breakfast
has carried down
to the next generation.
Birthdays are fun for everyone.
It's so fun to open birthday presents.
It's time to "Go Fishing."
Grampa got in on the fun, too.
John is helping Rigdon catch more fish.
Riggy gets a photo by Grampa 'n Grama.
Fun birthday decorations...
Riggy got some new birthday shoes he's ready to put on.
Riggy ended his birthday by
going to the Cub Scout Carnival.
Riggy had fun tossing the balls at the clown.

Now he's tossing the ball on his own.
                             Riggy won some fun prizes.
We then walked the couple of blocks back home.
We try to walk a little each day.

wednesDAY, SEPTEMBER 52018

Jacee, in the red life guard sweat shirt,
is busy doing math homework!

thurSDAY, SEPTEMBER 62018

Tryin' to remember what we did today.
Oh, Julie took Jacee to the Jr. BYU Ballroom team practice in Provo.  Then she and John helped Jacee design her first official balloom gown.  It will be finished next week, well ready to bring home and glue on the rhinestones.

This just seen on Face Book about candy corn.
Gary and Steve, because you make fun of candy corn all the time, you will love this.

friDAY, SEPTEMBER 72018

Rigdon's friend Audrey was able to come swimming with us at the Home Owners' Pool. Riggy all ready has his swim suit on.
It is so relaxing in the soothing, natural hot springs water.  Plus such a peaceful feeling surrounded by mountains with the Utah Lake on the East. The smoke in the air makes it hard to see the mountains.
Julie has been busy decorating our apartment with things we brought from our Burley home -- like Walt's baseball caps from every country we've live in during our 9 1/2 years out of the country on our 4 missions together.
On the floor are the "duplicate" hats that didn't make the wall display--like Walt had three caps from El Salvador, three from Honduras, and several University of Idaho caps.

SaturDAY, SEPTEMBER 82018
Two of our Burley friends had funerals today.

Laura Nielson was in our Burley 3rd Ward.
She was truly an elect lady, and will still be so in heaven.

Kathleen Lyons was also an Elect Lady.
Her husband, Kent Lyons, built our home in Burley, in 1968,
that we bought in May 1971,
and he did the build on and remodel in 1978.

Jun. 5, 1930 - Aug. 30, 2018
Date of Service: Sep. 8, 2018
Kathleen Devey Lyons

Burley - Kathleen Devey Lyons, 88, passed away at the Charleston Assisted Living in Cedar Hills, Utah on August 30, 2018.

Kathleen was born in American Fork, Utah County, Utah on June 5, 1930 to Walter Boley Devey and Alvera Creer Devey. She joined an older brother, Creer, and was followed by a brother, C. Richard, and a sister, Carol Devey Pulley. She attended schools in American Fork, graduating from American Fork High School in 1948. She had many friends growing up and kept in touch with a lot of them her entire life. She also attended Brigham Young University.

Kathleen met Kent Ivan Lyons on a blind date while visiting her cousin, Nan Shults, in Idaho. It was love at first sight. After many trips back and forth between Burley and American Fork and a shared year at BYU, they were married on April 20, 1950 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They were married for 66 years at Kent’s passing and she has missed him intensely. We know that there was great joy at their reunion.

Kathleen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, enjoyed singing in the choir, was a faithful visiting teacher, and always enjoyed her association with the sisters in the Relief Society.

Kathleen was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She had many talents. Cooking, quilting, crocheting, knitting, and especially sewing were some of them, and she shared them generously. She also had a beautiful alto voice. Kathleen had many interests and belonged to the Cameo Book Club, the Mount Harrison Quilt Guild, the Burley Garden Club, and the Burley Library Book Group.

Kathleen and Kent shared a love of music and the arts and enjoyed going to many classical music concerts from the time they started courting. They also shared an appreciation of nature and traveling. There were few things they liked better than getting in the car and going on an adventure to see something new.

Kathleen is survived by her children, whom she loved very much; Karen Taylor (Ferris) of Draper, Utah, Anita Lyons of Lehi, Utah, Warren Devey Lyons (Verna) of Mesa, Arizona, Allyson Sterling (Kent) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Nancy Riess (Danny) of Nampa, Idaho. She is also survived and loved by 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, with one due in the fall. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Pulley, and sister-in-law, Helen Devey.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her brothers, and her great granddaughter, Sage Kathleen Bartlett.

The family would like to thank the many people who helped to care for Kathleen. In Burley, IHC Home Health, especially Ilene Harshbarger, and the kind ladies from Comfort Keepers. In Utah, the many caring people at the Charleston, Jordan, Lindsay and the other kind workers from A Plus Health, and Raelle from Visiting Angels.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Star 2nd Ward, 96 S. 200 W., of Burley. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery. Kathleen will be buried in a casket, made with love, by her husband, Kent.

Friends and family may call from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, September 7, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th Street, in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Online condolences may be left for the family by visiting www.rasmussenfuneralhome.com. Kathleen loved reading. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Burley Public Library.

BYU vs CAL
We lost 18-21.  Sad 25th birthday for the quarterback, Tanner Mangum. And sad for all of us Cougar fans.
Steve and Natalie came over to watch the BYU game.
Gary came over to watch the BYU game.
Steve and Nat left at half-time.
Gary stayed and watched until 23 seconds
left and we knew we'd lost.
The game went from 8:20 to 11:50 p.m.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 92018

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACKSON!
...14 years old today.

Yes, traditional donuts and chocolate milk.
 He loves his birthday presents.

 We weren't quite awake...
Most of us went back to bed for another hour's sleep.
Jackson was ordained a Teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood
by his father, John.
And given a very nice blessing.
Julie served hot monkey bread to
add to the delicious Sunday dinner.
John cooks a Tri-Tip Roast almost every Sunday.
It is so tender.  He said one of the secrets is to
always cut it with the grain.
John also makes wonderful mashed potatoes.
And today we had some of the green beans
he and his Mom canned last week.
Jack is taking in the aroma of his
newly baked birthday Texas chocolate sheet cake.
  There are  18 candles for
Jack's 14, and Rigdon's 4 years.
They got all the candles blown out.
Here is Walt with three of his sons.
The sun was shining on Steve's face,
that's why he looks like he has
on a surgical face mask.
  Julie and John hosted this
"Sunday sundae."
Today it was birthday cake and ice cream
in place of the traditional "sundae."
Here's David with his kids who could come--
Anna, Sam, and Will.
Here's Steve and Natalie's family who could come--
Kimble and Carter.
We asked Walt to come over to stand by
Gary's family who could come...
  ...McKell and Isaac.
And here are Julie and John, Jacee, Maddie,
and the two birthday boys--Jackson and Riggy.
It's been a great day with our family!
As we come to the end of September 9th...
We hope you have had a restful and peaceful Sabbath Day.
We testify that...
Heavenly Father knows each one of us by name and loves each one of us.  He has said: "For behold, this is my work and my glory-- to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of..."* Walt, Eileen, Janie, Shawn, Gary, Steve, Natalie, David, Julie, Julie, John, Brian, Jennifer, Jennifer, Jerry, and each one of us.
Jesus Christ is His Only Begotten Son -- our Eldest Brother in the Spirit World -- who was foreordained to be our Redeemer and Savior through His Atonement on the Earth.

The Holy Ghost is the Third Member of the Godhead and will reveal all truth to us, including testifying that Jesus Christ is The Son of God--the Redeemer of all mankind.

Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration. He was directed by Jesus Christ in 1820 to not join any church but that His True Church would be restored to the earth through him.  This was done in 1830.

The Bible is the word of God, a Testament of Jesus Christ.
The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true Church on the Earth today.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet for the entire World today.
 *Moses 1:
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to
pass the immortality and eternal life of man."
Of these truths we testify on this Sunday, September 9, 2018.
