Traces of Time . . .

THIS WEEK - AUGUST 20 - 26, 2018

First day of school - Jacee a Sophomore

 First day of school - Jackson - an 8th grader
 First day of school - Maddie - 6th grade

When school was out for the first day of school...Kimble came over and he and Jackson put together the new dresser we got at I-KEA today.  It must have had close to 50 parts and a hundred pieces of hardware to assemble.

Oh, Rigdon helped, too.

It took from 3:30 to 7:30...
Kimble and Jackson worked well together...
Grampa helped supervise...

They're getting closer...
Steve came over after his work day...

TaDa...It's finished!
                                   Great job, guys!

 Kimble and Jackson were great carpenter partners.

tuesDAY, AUGUST 21, 2018

We made our first venture out.
We drove to Smith's Marketplace
to get some prescriptions refilled
and got some other items we needed.
 Kimble drove Jacee home in the Jeep...
 ...got a treat...

 Then drove Jackson, Maddie, and Rigdon...
 ...to the swimming pool.

 When everyone had their seat belts on...
 ...they were off!

Gary drove us over to the City Center at Eagle Mountain.
We stopped at The Ranches for a Dole Whip.
Thanks, Gary, for the fun tour.
eagle mountain isn't as big as we thought it was.

ThUrSDAY, AUGUST 23, 2018

John got our TV up on the wall.
 John is expert at everything he does.
Grampa and I went for a walk...
 ...all on our own.
  Glad we made it back okay.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 2018
Don't feel sorry for us.
This is the wonderful natural hot springs pool
we get to swim in with that great view of the
mountains beyond Utah Lake.
Rigdon loves to swim...

 Here's the creek we cross by the pool...
We're in for all kind of adventures...
 Friday evening, John took Jackson and
other scouts on a hike and overnight camping trip
to Lake Mary, Lake Martha, and Lake Kathryn,
a mile or two up from Brighton.
They go once every month -- except Dec and Jan --
to a different camp site.

Gary, Steve, and David,
along with Kimble, Sam, and William
joined us for a pit fire.
 Fun to hear brothers and sons
share memories...
...along with Julie...
 ...we learn more about their youth all the time.
...we are thankful our kids grew to adulthood.
It was a great evening together.

SaturDAY, AUGUST 25, 2018

Gary drove us to the Hill Air Force Museum in Ogden today.

 Then we drove to Brigham City to
have lunch at Maddox.
 We were told it would be an hour wait time.
 But it was only 40 minutes before
we were seated.
 It was worth the wait!
Gary got the Maddox Famous Fried Chicken...

 Walt and I got the Chicken Fried Steak...
 ...along with their delicious homemade rolls
and corn pones with raspberry butter.
And today the veggie was corn on the cob.
There were even more people waiting
when we came out at four o'clock.
Our first disappointment of the week was
when we turned on the TV to watch
the Lawrence Welk Show at 7p.m. and
discovered that they don't have
Lawrence Welk on their P.B.S. channel
here in Utah.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JENNIFER...
IN ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA TODAY.

Thanks again for flying out last week to help us in our move from Idaho to Utah.

And, Happy Birthday to dale in twin falls.
Walt's only brother.
BROTHERS...
Dale with his family
at granddaughter, Charity's, wedding.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
This morning we went to the wrong Stake Center,
but then got to the Centennial Stake Center in time
to partake of the Sacrament in their
Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward.
In Sunday School from Lesson 32: "Book of Job,"
this is one of the quotes that our teacher handed out...
"Elder Orson F. Whitney said:
"No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted.  It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility.
All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently,
builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and
charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God ... and it is through sorrow
and suffering, toil and tribulation,
that we gain the education that we come here to
acquire and which will make us more like
our Father and Mother in heaven..."
--quoted in Faith Precedes the Miracle,
Spencer W. Kimball, 98.
Note by Eileen -- We don't have many quotes from the
Brethren about our "Mother in Heaven."
It's always great to have another insight that,
indeed, we do have a "Mother in Heaven."
After the 3-hour 11:00-2:00 block,
John finished getting the Sunday dinner of roast, gravy, potatoes 'n carrots, corn, and lemonade served.
Everyone helped, but John cooks the roast,
potatoes, and carrots, and makes the gravy.
 Riggy started with watermelon.
  We just had small portions--enough
to keep my blood sugar from going too low
because at 4:30 Steve picked us up
to have dinner with them.
We did get a nice Sunday hour nap in between.
At Steve and Natalie's
we had cross rib roast, mashed potatoes,
gravy, stuffing,
fresh cooked green beans, corn, salad, and rolls.
Two delicious Sunday dinners.
 The rule at Steve and Natalie's home is
that the boys do the Sunday dishes.
 Then Kimble and Carter were off
to visit their sisters--Kelsey and Cortney.
They are in Eagle Mountain.
 Thanks, Steve and Natalie.
   As Grampa said when we were leaving:
"The food was great but the company was even better."
We pray you have had a peaceful and restful
Sabbath Day.
We share our testimony...
That Heavenly Father lives and loves us.
He and our Heavenly Mother want us to return to Them.
Jesus Christ is His only begotten son Who came to Earth to become our Savior.  He is the Redeemer of all.
Joseph Smith is the Restorer of all truths.  He is the Prophet of the Restoration.
Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet for the entire World.
The Bible is A Testament of Jesus Christ.
The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Church on the Earth today.
Of these truths we testify on this Sunday, August 26, 2018.
