Traces of Time . . . August 13-19, 2018

Traces of Time . . .

THIS WEEK - AUGUST 13 - 19, 2018

 MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 2018

Ruth came with us to breakfast at McDonalds.

All three of us love the pancakes and sausage.

Our last time at McDonalds with Ruth.

 TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2018

Shawn and Janie came today with a U-Haul to take some furniture back to Rexburg.  They are getting the rest of the beds and taking some things for Heidi and Jordan.

Christine Robins Funk is Shawn's mother, Lorene's sister.  Christine and two of her sons--Andrew and Gradon and her grandson came to help them load the truck.

Thank you so much!

The blue couch and love seat from the family room are going to Heidi and Jordan.
 After the loading was done...then

...we ate at our Burley West Stake booth at the Fair.

 wednesdAY, AUGUST 15, 2018

Janie and Shawn brought the washer and dryer from the
upstairs laundry room...
...And loaded them into the U-Haul truck.

Then they drove us to the Fair Parade...

and went back to work at the house some more

After a full day of sorting and packing

more things they

headed back to Rexburg that evening.

Dale and Connie drove over from Twin Falls

for a final Goodbye.

We went to Morey's Steak House for supper.

Here's a photo I found from
a Labor Day we spent with
Dale and Connie
Phyllis and Dale
at Stanley Basin
several years ago.
(Phyllis passed away in August 2014 at age 82.)
Found this photo as we sorted through the files.

 ThUrSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2018

Our 5th Great-Grandchild was born today.
DIESEL THOMAS ANDERSON
with his Mom - Katie Fisher Anderson
DIESEL THOMAS ANDERSON
with his Dad - Parker Thomas Anderson
DIESEL THOMAS ANDERSON
with his Mom, and sister Taitum.
Welcome to our family, Diesel!
,,,part of helping Zion grow.

Walt got injections
in his knee.
We ate supper at our Fair Booth...
but the photo taken by a friend didn't take.

 fridAY, AUGUST 17, 2018

Tracy King got the bumper part put on our car this morning.
We have been trying to get everything sorted
from the office den.

It seems like it will never happen to get
things thrown away or in file boxes
to take to sort later.
Walt's about finished with his side.
The office-den finally got all cleared out.

Tom and Irene Blayney came over
to tell us Goodbye.
They have lived right next to us
for the 47 years we have lived in this house.

Janie is coming at Julie with a
syringe and needle from
Walt's old medical bag.
It's a way they get their second wind
from working so hard all day with the
final push to get everything all
packed.

They started the sorting and downsizing
in March when it was decided at a
family council that we could
no longer live alone
because of health problems.
And we could no longer take
care of our big home.

They're still after Julie with that needle.

We went out to the Cassia County Fair
for supper.
Corn from the Declo Lions' Club booth.
Some of us had eaten at our
Burley West Stake booth several times,
so we had Bar-b-que pork at the
new Farmers' Corner booth.
Steve and Julie got hamburgers
from our Stake booth.
Gary asked the same question I had:
"Why is the food at the Fair always
better than anywhere else?"
Julie and Gary got maple bars at the
Declo booth.  The recipe they use is
from John's Grandmother Bernadine.

The five of our seven kids who could come for the
last two days "at our Burley home."
Gary, Julie, Steve, Jen, Janie
Here you can see them all better...
Janie with chandelier crown...

 SaturDAY

       AUGUST 18, 2018

M O V I N G    D A Y . . .

A  RED LETTER DAY IN OUR LIVES~!

Ruth Melling brought over breakfast for the family...
and there were even some egg McMuffins for
the helpers...

Thanks, Ruth! You have been a wonderful friend
and neighbor for 45 years.

(Ruth came while we were getting
dressed so I didn't get a photo of her.
She had to leave to go to Eola Luke's
funeral in Murtaugh.)
President Tracy King came to help dig out
our trampoline that we bought in 1977.

The roots had grown over the bar
in the ground.
More roots on the other side, too.
Julie is thrilled that it came apart
so nicely.
Now this old tramp will have a new
life in Utah.
Dan Murri said: "You really did
put down roots here!"
Did I already say:
"Many hands make light work."
These next photos show family, friends, neighbors,
ward members hard at work helping us carry
the rest of our furniture and things out
of our home here to take to our home
in Utah.

Kathy Marker has helped us several times.

This is only about half of the ward members
who came to help us... Left to right in this photo:
Dan Murri, Clark Farrer, Christian Jackson, Robert Watts,
Brody Jackson, Cade and Mandy Jones,
Emily and Michael Hill.
Also helping but who were taking things
to the landfill or D.I.: Steve Ormond, Bishop Steve Gerratt, Blake Chapman, Eric Pierce, Kathy Marker, Alan Fluckiger, President Tracy King, and others...

It's true--"many hands make the work lighter."

Janie just sent this better photo of some of those
who were able to come and help:
Thanks, Ali, for helping me with the names.

We so appreciate all the help in
getting us packed up to move
and then unloaded in Utah!

WE WILL MISS YOU!

Several came by to tell us "Goodbye,"
Ruth Melling, Diane Fluckiger, Sherry Ormond,
Three of Janie's classmates came: Becky Ralphs, Corine Larsen, and Christine Willich Heiner. (I've forgotten married names of the first two.)
Becky's Mom, Charmaine Ralphs, also came.

Tom and Irene Blayney and their daughter Jane visiting
from Jordan, Utah came Friday morning to tell us
Goodbye.
Janie took the photo of us all.

Dave and Marilyn Gibbons came by before he left
for his 1-every-fourth-Saturday shift at the temple,
(along with his Tuesday and Wednesday shifts) as
one of the Assistant Temple Recorders at the
Twin Falls Temple.
Connie had told us there were a lot of
sealings scheduled for today "8-18-18."

I think Jen, Julie, and Janie have photos of this they will e-mail to us.
We pulled out 7 minutes before our goal of
12:00 Noon.
I think our five kids there cried more than we did.
Janie, Gary, Steve, Julie, and Jen.
Julie took a video of the house as she pulled away, saying:
"Goodbye Burley home.
You were a great place to live!"

At our family reunion July 5-6-7 this summer,
Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, and Jen
lined up by their lockers in the back storage room.
Now the rooms are empty...
Last family reunion at our home in Burley...
WEPR - 7-7-2018
Lived here May 1971 to August 2018 = 47 years.
Lived in Burley July 1966- Aug 2018 = 52 years.
We lived at 2341 Burton Avenue 1966-1971.
(The Gibbons bought that home from us.)
This has been a wonderful home to raise our family.
We have many sweet memories.

We are happy to now rent it to a wonderful family --
Josh and Alison Burgess who have
four darling children: Celes, Evie, Caleb, and J.J.
Ali's Mom, Valerie Bame, is with them in the photo.

We have loved our home in Burley...
HOME
BY EDGAR ALBERT GUEST
It takes a heap o’ livin’ in a house t’ make it home,
A heap o’ sun an’ shadder, an’ ye sometimes have t’ roam
Afore ye really ’preciate the things ye lef’ behind,
An’ hunger fer ’em somehow, with ’em allus on yer mind.
It don’t make any differunce how rich ye get t’ be,
How much yer chairs an’ tables cost, how great yer luxury;
It ain’t home t’ ye, though it be the palace of a king,
Until somehow yer soul is sort o’ wrapped round everything.

Home ain’t a place that gold can buy or get up in a minute;
Afore it’s home there’s got t’ be a heap o’ livin’ in it;
Within the walls there’s got t’ be some babies born, and then
Right there ye’ve got t’ bring ‘em up t’ women good, an’ men;
And gradjerly, as time goes on, ye find ye wouldn’t part
With anything they ever used—they’ve grown into yer heart:
The old high chairs, the playthings, too, the little shoes they wore
Ye hoard; an’ if ye could ye’d keep the thumbmarks on the door.

Ye’ve got t’ weep t’ make it home, ye’ve got t’ sit an’ sigh
An’ watch beside a loved one’s bed, an’ know that Death is nigh;
An’ in the stillness o’ the night t’ see Death’s angel come,
An’ close the eyes o’ her that smiled, an’ leave her sweet voice dumb.
Fer these are scenes that grip the heart, an’ when yer tears are dried,
Ye find the home is dearer than it was, an’ sanctified;
An’ tuggin’ at ye always are the pleasant memories
O’ her that was an’ is no more—ye can’t escape from these.

Ye’ve got t’ sing an’ dance fer years, ye’ve got t’ romp an’ play,
An’ learn t’ love the things ye have by usin’ ’em each day;
Even the roses ’round the porch must blossom year by year
Afore they ’come a part o’ ye, suggestin’ someone dear
Who used t’ love ’em long ago, an’ trained ’em jes’ t’ run
The way they do, so’s they would get the early mornin’ sun;
Ye’ve got t’ love each brick an’ stone from cellar up t’ dome:
It takes a heap o’ livin’ in a house t’ make it home.
Now we leave it . . .
Goodbye 2457 Burton Avenue...

Arriving in U T A H
David was in Saratoga Springs helping unload the
U-Haul truck that arrived at 3:30.
(He has also come to Burley during the
sorting and down-sizing process over
the past 6 months.)
Brian has helped in many ways from his
living far away in Tennessee, near
Nashville.

We never could have been ready for this move
 without the
help of our children!
We can never express the gratitude we feel.

We are also overwhelmed by the help of our
neighbors and friends in Burley.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Here is the first glimpse of the remodeled
bathroom to make it handicap accessible!
John took out the bathtub and made it
a walk-in shower.  He had Walt stand in
it and measured where the handicap bars
should go on the walls.
He immediately had his drill going to
put them in the exact correct positions.
John is expert at whatever he does!
Thank you, John and Julie for a perfect
private suite to live in your home.
We had a fun surprise visit from my sister,
Janice, and Jeff.
They live in Midvale.

The trampoline is up...from 1977
and still goin' strong!
There old tramp has blown over several times and is on its last leg.
 Jen heads back tomorrow morning
on a 5:45 a.m. flight from Salt Lake City
to Minneapoilis, then on to Rochester from there.
It has been wonderful having her here,
and she helped us a lot.

She drove us from Burley to Saratoga Springs.
(Jen, would you please e-mail us that photo
we took at the Utah-Idaho border of
you pulling Dad into Utah as he clings
to the Idaho side of the Utah sign?}

Gary drove the U-Haul truck from Burley
to Saratoga Springs.
Thanks, Gary.
Here we are in Saratoga Springs, Utah.
Our darling "private apartment" is
on that left side in Julie and John's home.

John and Rigdon are
practicing golf on the front lawn.

Julie posted this photo on face book.
The day we became Utahans.

SunDAY, AUGUST 19, 2018

Gary fixed a delicious brunch for us this
morning and took us to his ward.

Julie and John and family went to the
blessing of their nephew's baby.

John gave each of his children an
inspirational
Father's Blessing tonight
as they begin their new
school year tomorrow.

Then Julie and John, Jacee, Jackson, Maddie, Rigdon,
Walt and I--and Max, their dog, went on a family walk.

Here are Julie and John in front of their home
when we got back from the walk.

That left side from the front door over
is our "home within their home."

What a blessing to have children
who love and care for us
in our elderly years...
Walt is 84 and I am just 79 until
December 15th of this year.

At the end of this Sabbath Day we share our

T E S T I M O N Y...

We pray you have had a restful and peaceful Sabbath Day.
We testify that...

Heavenly Father lives and loves each one of us.  He knows us by name and wants for us to return to Him and our Heavenly Mother.

Jesus Christ is the only Begotten of the Father Who came to earth to live a perfect life and Atone for everything anyone did wrong.  Because of this Atonement all will be resurrected.

And we will be exalted if we repent and Come Unto the Savior.

The Holy Ghost is the Third Member of the Godhead and will reveal all truth to us.

Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration of the only true Church in these latter days--The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Bible is a Testament of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Christ.

President Russell M. Nelson is the living Prophet for the whole Earth today.

Of these truths we testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Walter and Eileen Petersen - August 19, 2018 Burley, Idaho opps . . . now Saratoga Springs, Utah.

P.S. from Eileen:
Wherever Walt is... that is home for me.
