On this blog I share with family and friends my thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.
*All that I am or ever hope to be,
I not only owe to my

angel mother and father,

...but my wonderful husband,
Walter Ray Petersen.

Walt called himself...
"The last of the old-time country doctors."

He delivered about 4,000 babies, among fixing broken hips, other surgeries, and even made house calls.As Janie said in his obituary:"He healed many hearts, heads, hands, and everything in-between."
In the 1950s you had to be 20 to serve a mission. This is Walt in August 1954, on the day he was set apart in Salt Lake City
to be a missionary.

One of Walt's happiest of happy places was as the pilot flying...
Our first plane was a piper Cherokee...
Then in a six-seater Cessna high-wing, turbo-charged airplane. Foxtrot 48--something was the call number {he owned with two partners).
We were blessed to serve 4 missions together--First:July 1995-July 1998

“Fear not, little flock.” I love the tenderness of “little flock.” In this Church we may be few in number by the way the world counts influence, but when we open our spiritual eyes, “they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” Our loving Shepherd, Jesus Christ, then continues, “Let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail.

Remember, “they that be with us” on both sides of the veil, those who love the Lord with all their heart, might, mind, and strength, “are more than they that be with them.”

The Perseid Meteor Shower Is Here!

July 17 – August 24, 2025

One of the most spectacular celestial events of the year is lighting up the skies — the Perseid Meteor Shower. Caused by Earth’s annual passage through debris left by Comet Swift–Tuttle, the Perseids produce bright, fast meteors that can reach speeds of over 200,000 km/h.

At its peak (around August 11–13), you may witness up to 100 meteors per hour under dark skies. These fireballs often leave glowing trails that linger for seconds.

Best viewed after midnight, far from city lights, when the radiant point in the constellation Perseus rises high in the northeast.

Tip: Lie back, let your eyes adjust to the dark for 20–30 minutes, and look about 45° away from the radiant to catch longer trails.

Fun Fact: The Perseids have been observed for nearly 2000 years, and were first officially recorded by Chinese astronomers in 36 AD!

ARNOLD ALBERTSON WORKED IN SHIPYARDS DURING WORLD WAR II TO SUPPORT THE WAR EFFORT. VERNA ALBERTSON GRADUATED FROM THE TWIN FALLS BUSINESS COLLEGE in 1957 AND WORKED 27 YEARS FOR SOUTHERN IDAHO PRODUCTION CREDIT ASSOCIATION IN GOODING.
AN AVID ARTIST, SHE WILL DISPLAY HER PAINTINGS AND AMERICANA COLLECTION DURING THE OPEN HOUSE.
THE EVENT IS SPONSORED BY HER DAUGHTERS, EILEEN (WALTER) PETERSEN OF BURLEY AND JANICE ROBERTSON OF OREM, UTAH. SHE HAS 11 GRANDCHILDREN AND 18 GREAT- GRANDCHILDREN.

Grama A lived with

Julie & John, Jacee,

Jackson, and Maddie.

We can never thank them

enough for all they did for her.

I think they made life a lot more

fun for her than Walt and I

could have. They took her to

the pool, to Corn Bellies at

Thanksgiving Point, and other

exciting places.

your kids for your care and

compassion for

Grama A -- especially those

last months that got harder.

Life Story of Verna – an Idaho Girl – 1920-2013
           Introduction
Gem of the Mountains is the nickname for Idaho. It’s cold in the mountains in the winter. If this newborn could have had her druthers, she would have chosen a warmer place and time to enter the world. January 14, 1920, was frigid in Rigby, Idaho, when Verna Beth was born into the farm family of Ella and Dave Huffaker. She was their first daughter, joining two older brothers, Morris, 3 1/2, and David, Jr., almost 2.
“I think my spirit got frostbitten on its way to earth because I’m always cold,” jokes Verna as she begins telling her story.
Two years before Verna was born, World War I had ended. Over 21 million people died in a worldwide influenza epidemic after World War I. That same year Tsar Nicholas II and his family were murdered in Russia by the revolutionaries. --“Center for Life Stories Preservation” www.storypreservation.com”
On January 10, 1920, four days before Verna was born, “the League of Nations, the first permanent international body encompassing many of the nations of the world, was established as the World War I Treaty of Versailles went into effect.” --Deseret News 1999-2000 Church Almanac, p. 499.
Here are some locations to pinpoint the move when Verna was two years old. Rigby is 12 miles northeast of Idaho Falls and has long winters with short summers. Wendell, 185 miles southwest of Rigby, was said to have a longer growing season. In Wendell, Verna lived on the Andrew, Amdal, Hanson, Simonton, Dean, and Barrett rented places from 1922 to 1937.
Dave was an excellent farmer and irrigator. He would calcimine [paint] inside each house they rented so everything would be clean and bright for Ella and the family. Then when they had a farm and house in tip-top shape, someone would buy it. They wondered if they would ever be able to scrape up a down payment to buy a place of their own.
Perhaps this was partly due to the little-known depression for farmers that started in 1919. History books tell us all about The Great Depression from 1929 to when World War II brought the United States out of it in the 1940’s. However, very few history books even mention the depression that hit the farm states following World War I. It’s almost as if it were the unmentionable depression.
From 1914 to 1918 the prices were going up and up and up for farm products. The government encouraged farmers to grow more and more for the World War I effort and foreign markets. Many Idaho farmers bought more land and equipment on credit. “As soon as the armistice was signed with Germany on November 11, 1918, the U.S. government canceled its farm contracts. By 1920 Europe was producing again, so the U.S. farmers’ markets dwindled away and the farm prices plummeted. Banks began foreclosing on farmers.” [Idaho History, Vol. 2, p. 43, Leonard J. Arrington.]
This could be why Verna’s family moved to so many different rental farms and why her Dad couldn’t buy a farm of his own until 1938.
These Idaho farm families were struggling for survival. Ella was a hard worker but there was always more to do for a large family than the farmer’s wife could get done. Perhaps this is why Verna, the oldest daughter, was expected to help out so much around the house and farm.
However, Ella told Dave that as his wife she was not going to be like some of the farmers’ wives who worked in the fields plus helping in the barn to milk the cows. And she never did. But she cooked plenty of delicious meals for her family and many hay and threshing crews, had a garden, canned hundreds of bottles of fruit, plus baked homemade bread several times a week, and hung out the cleanest wash in the county every Monday!
In addition to Verna and her two older brothers, Morris, born August 8, 1916, and David, born April 3, 1918, three more children rounded out the family. Her next younger sibling, Lorraine, was born June 25, 1925 when Verna was five years old.

Great Plan operational.

I pray you have had a restful, peaceful, and spiritual Sabbath Day...
I share these truths as   my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence. He loves us just as we are at this very moment.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
