On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and posterity to come.

Obituary

     Karen Anderson Bunn, 65, a Wendell resident, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

     Karen was born on April 10, 1958 in Payson, Utah, the daughter of Fred and Margene Anderson.

     Karen married Mitchell W. Bunn on February 27, 1981 in Manti, Utah.

     She is survived by: her husband – Mitch Bunn of Wendell; two sons – Jason Allen Bunn and Luke William Bunn, both of Wendell; two daughters – Rebecca Bunn Vipperman of Wendell and Elizabeth Bunn Dascanio of Menan, Idaho; three brothers – Damon Fred Anderson, Mason Anderson and Karl Jens Anderson; six sisters – Doreen Nielson, Charlene Howell, Terilyn Anderson, Nancy Christley, Sherri Pace and Marcie Nay; and seven grandchildren – Audrey Mae Vipperman, David LeGrand Vipperman, Natalie Renae Dascanio, Kaitlyn Nicole Dascanio, Judith Karen Vipperman, Margret Lorraine Dascanio and Daniel William Bunn.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister – Janet Anderson Terry.

     A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Wendell Cemetery in Wendell.

     Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel.

  Harvest Super Moon
(NEXSTAR) – Eyes up, skygazers, the harvest moon that rises this week will be the last supermoon of 2023.
The bright, full moon will be visible between Thursday night and Friday morning, barring any cloud cover where you live.
The “harvest moon” falls closest to the start of autumn and got its name before the advent of electricity, when farmers had to rely on the moon’s light as they worked into the night harvesting their crops, according to NASA.
You may also notice one or more of the three planets accompanying the harvest moon: Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury, according to Space.com.

This year’s harvest moon follows the rare blue supermoon, the closest full moon of the year, which lit up the sky in late August.
A supermoon happens around the time when a full moon passes closest to Earth in its orbit. About a quarter of the full moons in a year will be supermoons, according to NASA.
Thinking about relaxing inside and skipping this week’s supermoon? You’ll have to wait until the next harvest moon, Sept. 18, 2024, to see another one, according to Space.com. The second and final supermoon
of the year will fall on Oct. 17, 2024.

A General Conference Message

As we anticipate this weekend’s general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson, who recently celebrated his 99th birthday, has shared his plans for participation.
Dear brothers, sisters and friends, we have the cherished opportunity this coming weekend to attend or watch our semiannual general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! General conference weekends are two of my favorite weekends of the year. How I love meeting in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City with all who gather there.
This weekend, however, I will be watching general conference through technology just as most of you will. Three weeks ago, I fell and injured the muscles in my lower back. This episode has reminded me of the reality that things sometimes change quickly in our lives. This photo of my counselors and me was taken at the celebration of my 99th birthday. Two days later, I fell.
Thankfully, my healing is progressing. But as my physician says, “We don’t have much data on how 99-year-olds recover from an injury like this one, so I am prescribing a slow, careful approach to healing so that you achieve a full recovery.” Having prescribed just such a course of action for many of my own patients years ago, I feel duty-bound to follow doctor’s orders.
I am still not able to sit in a chair for long periods of time. However, I am hoping to record my general conference message and look forward to participating in this marvelous October 2023 general conference through technology.
I pray that each of us, wherever we may be, will approach this sacred weekend with our hearts full of gratitude for the privilege of hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ proclaimed by His servants. May this general conference be a time of joy and spiritual rejuvenation for you. I know that it will be for me!
Additionally, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland continues to recuperate from his recent health challenges and, while improving, will participate in conference sessions by watching at home as well.
The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles sincerely appreciate the love and support offered by members and friends of the Church around the world. Each is grateful for the prayers offered on their behalf to help sustain them in their ministry of testifying of the Savior Jesus Christ.

The gospel of Jesus Christ teaches that He lives and                                    that God loves, hears, and speaks to His children.                            His personalized guidance and inspiration may be experienced                            through the counsel of living prophets and apostles.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints welcomes                                                    all to experience the peace and hope through Jesus Christ                                    during the semiannual general conference broadcast on Saturday,                        September 30, and Sunday, October 1, 2023.
“General conference provides an opportunity to receive                                        personal revelation as general Church leaders give counsel                                            and direction. We encourage members to listen to, study,                                        ponder, and apply the counsel given,” stated the First Presidency                                    of the Church (August 31, 2023, letter to congregation leaders).

The global broadcast originates from the Conference Center                                            in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and consists of five unique                                                2-hour sessions over two days:

Highlights from the Saturday

The fullness of the doctrine of
Christ teaches that Heavenly
Father loves His children so
much that He wants all to live
in a kingdom of glory forever
— more specifically, to live with
Him and His Son, Jesus Christ,
eternally, he taught.
“The gospel of Jesus Christ is a
plan that shows us how to become
our Heavenly Father desires us to
become.”
The Final Judgment is not just an
evaluation of a sum total of good
and evil acts — what one has done.
It is an acknowledgment of the final
effect of one’s acts and thoughts
— what one has become.
“We have a loving Heavenly Father
who will see that we receive every
blessing and every advantage that
our own desires and choices allow,”
President Oaks said.
President Henry B. Eyring, Second
Counselor in the First Presidency,
who conducted the session, noted
the absence and remote participation
of Church President Russell M.
Nelson, who is recovering from an
injured back, and Elder Jeffrey R.
Holland of the Quorum of the
Twelve Apostles, who continues
to recuperate from recent health
challenges.
Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum
of the Twelve Apostles opened the
conference expressing his love,
admiration and gratitude for Latter-day
Saints worldwide and described
examples of those who are pressing
forward “in the path of their duty.”
“Your strong faith in Heavenly Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ and your
unpretentious, consecrated lives inspire
me to be a better man and disciple,”
he said.
Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
emphasized the importance of the
sealing power — “the perfect
manifestation of the justice, mercy
and love of God” — in the gathering
of Israel.
“Without the sealings that create
eternal families and link generations
here and hereafter, we would be left
in eternity with neither roots nor
branches, that is, neither ancestry
nor posterity,” he said.
Sister Amy A. Wright, First
Counselor in the Primary General
Presidency, taught about spiritual
preparation and what it means to
“abide the day in Christ.”
“My dear friends, we cannot share
our oil, but we can share His light,”
she said. “Oil in our lamps will not
only help us ‘abide the day’ but can
also be the means of illuminating
the path that leads those we love
to the Savior, who stands ready
‘with open arms to receive’ them.
… He is the reason why it is never
the end of our story.”
Elder Robert M. Daines, General
Authority Seventy, said prayer,
reading the Gospels and seeking
Jesus help His followers learn to
recognize him and feel His love.
“This should be the reason for most
of what we do in church,” he said.
General Authority Seventy and
President of the Church’s Africa
Central Area Elder Ian. S. Ardern
spoke about visiting Uganda and
witnessing an “increase of hope
for a better tomorrow” in the
ongoing compassionate
humanitarian work and
compassion.
Elder Carlos A. Godoy of the
Presidency of the Seventy said
decisions to be lukewarm about
the Church or leave it can impact
generations ahead. “I invite you
... to be valiant enough to reshape
your path for the sake of your
posterity,” he taught.””
