Our Wednesday night movie was:
"Raiders of the Lost Ark" from 1981.
Raiders of the Lost Ark[a] is a 1981 American action-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Lawrence Kasdan, based on a story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman. Set in 1936, the film stars Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, a globetrotting archaeologist vying with Nazi German forces to recover the long-lost Ark of the Covenant which is said to make an army invincible. Teaming up with his tough former romantic interest Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), Jones races to stop rival archaeologist Dr. René Belloq (Paul Freeman) from guiding the Nazis to the Ark and its power.Lucas conceived Raiders of the Lost Ark in the early 1970s. Seeking to modernize the serial films of the early 20th century, he developed the idea further with Kaufman, who suggested the Ark as the film's goal. Lucas eventually focused on developing his 1977 film Star Wars. Development on Raiders of the Lost Ark resumed that year when he shared the idea with Spielberg, who joined the project several months later. While the pair had ideas for set pieces and stunts for the film, they hired Kasdan to fill in the narrative gaps between them. Principal photography began in June 1980 on a $20 million budget, and concluded that September. Filming took place on sets at Elstree Studios, England, and on location mainly in La Rochelle, France, Tunisia, and Hawaii.
Pre-release polling showed little audience interest in the film, especially compared to Superman II. Despite this, Raiders of the Lost Ark became the highest-grossing film of 1981, earning approximately $330.5 million worldwide, and played in some theaters for over a year. It was a critical success, receiving praise for its modern take on the serial genre, its non-stop action and adventure, and the performances of the cast, particularly of Ford, Allen, and Freeman. The film was nominated for several awards, and won five Academy Awards, seven Saturn Awards, and one BAFTA, among other accolades.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is now considered one of the greatest films ever made, and has had a lasting impact on popular culture, spawning a host of imitators across several media and inspiring other filmmakers. The United States Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry in 1999. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the first entry in what became the Indiana Jones franchise, which includes four more films—Temple of Doom (1984), Last Crusade (1989), Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), and Dial of Destiny (2023)—a teleion series, video games, comic books, novels, theme park attractions, toys, and an amateur remake.

George Lucas conceived Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1973, shortly after finishing the comedy film American Graffiti (1973).[19][20] An old movie poster of a heroic character leaping from a horse to a truck reminded Lucas of the early 20th-century serial films he enjoyed as a youth, such as Buck Rogers (1939), Zorro's Fighting Legion (1939), Spy Smasher (1942), and Don Winslow of the Navy (1942).[12][15][19][20] He wanted to make a B movie modeled on those serials and conceived The Adventures of Indiana Smith, featuring an adventurous Malamute dog.[12][19][20][21] Around the same time, Lucas was trying to adapt the space opera serial Flash Gordon (1936), but could not obtain the rights.[12][15][19] He shelved the Indiana Smith project to focus on creating his own space opera, Star Wars (1977).

Annie Henrie Nader
Eve and the Choice Made in Eden (2003) was one
of the first Latter-day Saint books to look deeply into the modern and
restored-gospel perspective on Mother Eve. Author Beverly Campbell focuses on
three levels from which the story of Eden must be viewed: as historical fact,
as a series of symbols and metaphors, and as a place for a beginning our own
search for spiritual understanding and relevance in life.

Family is Everything…
I had a great evening with my son, Steve.
Thank you, Stever!
(As I also had a great time last night with
Gary when we watched "Raider's of the
Lost Ark" together.)
Rendezvousing with Steve for supper... We actually ended up getting a hamburger,
fries, and soda at the Grill at Fat Cats because
the traffic was so slow (Friday traffic
grid-lock).
I'd heard their grill was very good, and it
was.
We finished just in time to go to
"theater 2" for "Air" that started at 5:55.
"Air is a 2023 American biographical sports drama film directed by Ben Affleck and written by Alex Convery. The film is based on true events about the origin of Air Jordan, a basketball shoeline, of which a Nike employee seeks to strike a business deal with rookie player Michael Jordan. It stars Matt Damon, Affleck, Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis." --Wikipedia
Steve had gone last week to scout it out.
So he told me when to block my ears for
the two-minute phone conversation that
had really vulgar language.
The story is a remarkable slice of history
that shows how Michael Jordan's mother
helped many athletes receive their
rightful share of income from their fame.
Steve is getting some (good-natured)
flack from his siblings for taking their
mother to see her first 'R-rated" movie.

"SIBLINGS – 17 Quotes
about their bond
Whether you consider them your
playmates, your ride-or-dies, your protectors, or the thorns in your side, siblings often
know you in ways no one else can. Who else, after all, can recount similar
experiences growing up in your unique household, and with your particular set
of parents?
Often, our brothers or sisters are our
first friends — and they might just be our longest-lasting ones, too. As
children, they help us learn about things like boundaries, negotiation, and
conflict resolution: Studies have shown that healthy sibling relationships
promote empathy and positive social behavior. Siblings can help us understand
ourselves better, too.
As we develop our likes and dislikes
when we’re young, we often base our preferences on what we observe in our
siblings — they give us a steady point of comparison from which to form our own
identity. Later in life, having a sibling to confide in is truly priceless,
given their decades-long understanding of our life circumstances and
upbringing. So whether you and your sibling are attached at the hip or the
quintessential rivals, here are 13 quotes to remind you of the lasting value of
this singular, special relationship.
Children of the same family, the same
blood, with the same first associations and habits, have some means of
enjoyment in their power, which no subsequent connections can supply. — Jane Austen
A sibling is the lens through which

I do find the sibling connection
endlessly fascinating, as I do all family dynamics. I like how siblings seem to
create their own parentless mini-civilization within a family, one that has its
own laws, myths, language, humor, its own loyalties and treacheries.

"The Ten Commandments"
from 1956
The Ten Commandments is a 1956 American epic religious drama film produced, directed, and narrated by Cecil B. DeMille,[5] shot in VistaVision (color by Technicolor), and released by Paramount Pictures. The film is based on the 1949 novel Prince of Egypt by Dorothy Clarke Wilson,[6] the 1859 novel Pillar of Fire by J. H. Ingraham,[7] the 1937 novel On Eagle's Wings by A. E. Southon,[8] and the Book of Exodus, found in the Bible. The Ten Commandments dramatizes the biblical story of the life of Moses, an adopted Egyptian prince who becomes the deliverer of his real brethren, the enslaved Hebrews, and thereafter leads the Exodus to Mount Sinai, where he receives, from God, the Ten Commandments. The film stars Charlton Heston in the lead role, Yul Brynner as Rameses, Anne Baxter as Nefretiri, Edward G. Robinson as Dathan, Yvonne De Carlo as Sephora, Debra Paget as Lilia, and John Derek as Joshua; and features Sir Cedric Hardwicke as Seti I, Nina Foch as Bithiah, Martha Scott as Yochabel, Judith Anderson as Memnet, and Vincent Price as Baka, among others.[5]Filmed on location in Egypt, Mount Sinai, and the Sinai Peninsula, The Ten Commandments was DeMille's most successful work, his first widescreen film, his fourth biblical production, and his final directorial effort before his death in 1959.[9] It is a remake of the prologue of his 1923 silent film of the same title, and features one of the largest exterior sets ever created for a motion picture.[9] Four screenwriters, three art directors, and five costume designers worked on the film. The interior sets were constructed on Paramount's Hollywood soundstages. The original roadshow version included an onscreen introduction by DeMille and was released to cinemas in the United States on November 8, 1956, and, at the time of its release, was the most expensive film ever made.[9] $13 million. $122.7 million box office in initial release.
