THIS WEEK
jANUARY 31-

FEBRUARY 6, 2022

We have 11 living family birthdays in February:

Katie, Emma, Carter, Julie, Kayden,
Jordan, McKell, Aimee, Ben, Taylor, and Sam.
And two birthday remembrances
of family members in heaven.
Walt's two sisters: Bonnie, Phyllis.

Family is Everything...                                                                         Today I went to Dr. Kimball's office
(my regular family physician)
to get a fasting AIC    `

Then I had my six-month dermatology
check up at Utah Valley Dermatology
with Dr. Harris.
These outstanding nurses assisted
with this check up.
Jarlan (Not sure I heard her name right,
and Kelley.

Today is the first day in their beautiful new office
on the east side of Redwood and Pioneer Crossing.
This new medical building only has about 3
offices completed of the three stories:
Rogers Foot and Ankle Clinic the first.
Next was a Physical and Speech Therapy Center.
And now Utah Valley Dermatology.
There's still a lot of construction
going on in the inside.
It got really windy and was a cold 32 degrees
when I came out from Costco.
My fingers were about frozen getting to the car!

Family is Everything...

The start of a new month.
Not real sunny, but we can see the mountains.                                    Sunrise: 7:37 a.m.         Sunset: 5:46 p.m.                                               Days are getting longer...                                                                                Spring is only 47 days away.
Now--"A blast from the past"
This is from last Feb 1 of 2021:
My sister Janice texted me two
photos to identify...
When I called her, she told me
that Jasmine and Jonathan's
second child, first son was born today
in Greensborough, North Carolina.
Vickie and Carl have flown their to help Jasmine.
This is Janice's 3rd g-grandchild.
It is the 5th gg-grandchild for
Arnold and Verna.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Regarding the photographs:
This would be in Talihina, Oklahoma.
Janice, my sister age 15, had driven
there with us from Gooding, Idaho,
when we had finished Walt's one-year
medical internship in Minneapolis, MN.
For Walt's military duty, he was assigned
for two years
to an Indian Hospital for the U.S.
Public Health Service. The U.S.P.H.S.
furnishes the physicans for the
U.S. Coast Guard Cutters.
We had just been in Oklahoma for
one month at the Indian Hospital
in Talihina when Walt was asked to
be the physician on the Coast Guard
Cutter "USCGC Chautauqua" as their
Sr. Surgeon
from the 26 of August to the
17 of November.
We drove from Oklahoma to
San Francisco for Walt to fly
from there to Hawaii to
board the ship.

Here's the letter of thank you
Walt received from the
Coast Guard Chief Medical
Officer, Rear Admiral Fishburn
The Rear Admiral said in the letter
that sometimes these assignments
"...are not always professionally
stimulating" but Walt had two
great adventures--in addition to
treating the men  on board. He was
asked to help a sailor on a little
Japanese fishing ship to see
if he needed to have an appendectomy.
And a cruise liner had a passenger
who had a really contagious disease,
which I'm trying to remember what
it was when a spinal tap is milky...
is that mononucleosis?
They asked Dr. Petersen
to help them get the medicine
they needed for him.
Walt's cutter was at a weather
station in the Pacific Ocean
half-way between Hawaii
and Japan.

This photo is at the Albion Cemetery
(10 miles or so southeast
of Burley, Idaho)
at the grave of our
Great-grandfather
Charles Albertson 1845-1911.
The headstone is for him,
his daughter
Mary Jane 1872-1949,
and his son
Thomas 1879-1885.
I think the photo is about 1988...but not sure.
Here is Charles when he
was in the Civil War at age 17:
I've walked with my walker
all the time now for over a year...
...even in the house.
Max still keeps us all safe.
After a mostly sunny day
with 50 degrees...2021
Today a year later it didn't
get out of the 20s~!

A fun, fun, fun movie

Institute today was on the
Parable of the Fig Tree...

Matthew JST Matthew 1:38
"Now learn a parable of the fig tree--
When its branches are yet tender and
it begins to put forth leaves, you
know that summer is nigh at hand;
"So likewise, mine elect, when they
shall see all these things, they shall
know that he is near, even at the doors;
"But of that day, and hour, no one
knoweth; no, not the angels of
God in heaven, but
my Father only."
Don't panic...
"Watch ye therefore for ye know not
when the master of the house cometh..."
"Those who treasure up His word
will not be deceived..."
"...watch ye therefore and pray always..."
Who was this parable given to?
Where was it given?
What: Disciples asked: "Tell us
when the destruction of the
temple will be."
Summary notes:
Fig Tree =
John 15:1 "I am the true vine..."
Vine = Christ
Branch = Us
Covenant Relationship
Tender branch = Spring
Summer = hot, fire will burn wicked
Mark 11:22
"...faith in God." = FIG
[Abrahamic Covenant]
Fig tree = Posterity,
Peace, Property.
Therefore -- What?
What do I do?
Pray to see what the Lord
wants you to do.
WATCH AND PRAY
Full covering of the ATONEMENT
The Atonement of Jesus Christ
covers us~!
Another great lesson!
Hiroko brings a sweet spirit
to our class!
Everyone helps put up chairs...
except me. I can't physically do
that, so I take photos.
We had 17 in class today.
Two new couples are:
Gary and Abbey
Ryan and Jane

Heather, Roberta, Camie, Carol.
Eileen, Carol.
We always learn so much.

For movie night with Gary, we have
chosen classical musicals for this
month, starting with the 1956
version of "The King and I"

Info from Wikipedia: Budget was $4.56 million
Box Office: $21.3 million

"The King and I is a 1956 American musical film made by 20th Century-Fox, directed by Walter Lang and produced by Charles Brackett and Darryl F. Zanuck. The screenplay by Ernest Lehman is based on the 1951 Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II musical The King and I, based in turn on the 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon. That novel in turn was based on memoirs written by Anna Leonowens, who became school teacher to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860s. Leonowens' stories were autobiographical, although various elements of them have been called into question.[4] The film stars Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner.

The film was a critical and commercial success, and was nominated for 9 Oscars, winning 5, including Best Actor for Brynner.

An animated film adaptation of the same musical was released in 1999. In February 12, 2021 announced that Paramount Pictures and Temple Hill Entertainment another live-action film version was in development."

There is also a 1946 movie "Anna and the King of Siam" starring Rex Harrison and Irene Dunn. However, it is not a musical. And I think it's black and white. Saw it about 3 years ago. I didn't even know about it till it came on TCM.

Family is Everything...
Today Happy Birthday to Emma
We went to her high school graduation
in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, June 2018.
(The good ol' days when we didn't
have to wear masks nor social distance.)

 Today is Brent Black's funeral
His obituary is on the Jan 29 post.

May 23, 1937 ~ January 26, 2022
Funeral - February 5, 2022 1:00 p.m.
Salt Laker Brtighton Stake Center
2895 E. Creek Road,
Sandy, Utah.
Brent's funeral was tender, spiritual,
and powerful!
His daughter, Julie, gave a great
talk. She is married to our son,
David.
The funeral also had just the
right amount of humor to
show that side of
Brent's personality.
Elder James Bekker, of
the Seventy, a family friend,
presided and was
 the final speaker.
I'll try to scan in the
printed program.

The interment was at
Mountain View Memorial Estates
at 4226 E Bengal Boulevard,
Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
It was only about 5 minuutes
from the stake center. It is a
beautiful, peaceful place to
be resurrected.

Jacee's long black gloves were very

Her black sparkly gown was stunning!
That's Jacee on the far left.
They even look great when
they walk off the floor.
See what I mean...

Maddie and Jacee enjoy a
sweet sister moment.

They love her as their coach.
Sometimes they're a little crazy!

Julie and John have a few minutes together

Ashley and Michael always look great!
Ashley and Michael...
Love watching my grandchildren dance~!

Ashley and Michael are fun partners.  Each one is a very talented dancer!
Ashley and Michael made it to the final six that
started with 24 couples in the Rumba, Samba, and ChaCha. Way to go!
Heidi and Pono dancing in
the adult smoothie category.
I also love watching them dance.
Heidi and Pono drove 14 hours from
Las Cruces, New Mexico where they are
enrolled at the University there.
Heidi has a beautiful new blue velvet
ball gown. She plans to add some more
sparkle to it.
I always love being with them...
Thanks, Janie, for taking me to join you all at the Utah Danceport today.
We had a fun serendipity to see Mary Ann Roskelley there with her daughter, Jennifer Kennedy, to
watch Jennifer's son, Conner, dance.
A year later Conner is on a mission in South Carolina,, and Mary Ann is
in Cozumel on vacation with her thee daughters Jennifer, Lori, and Alyson.
This is in the Yucatan by the Caribbean Sea where
Walt and I served as Mission President and wife
from Jul 1995 to Jul 1998 in the
Mexico Merida Mission.

Julie and her girls had a sixteen-hour day.
They left about six o'clock that morning,
and were there until ten o'clock or later that night.
I don't know what time they got home
after putting all the costumes away.
These balloons were dropped after
the final awards were given out.
I know Michael and his partner Natasha
danced in the final event at 9:45.
I only lasted from 9:00 that morning to
5:30 early evening. But it was marvelous!
The ballroom world is a magical place~~!!
Especially when we've had daughters--Janie,
Julie--and sons-in-laws--Shawn, John--and
grandchildren--Aimee, Daniel, Kelly, Katie,
Heidi, Pono, Sam, Ashley, Michael, Jacee,
Maddie--to watch through the years--
from 1983 to now!
They are poetry in
 motion on the dance floor.
*See caviat...
...*Caviat: That's just 2 of our 7 children, 2 of  our
sons-in-law, and and 9 of our 39 grandchildren,
and 2 of the 6 spouses of our grandchildren.
In future blogs I need to share about McKell's, Isaac's, and Anna's
theatrical singing, acting, and dancing; Kelsey's beautiful
singing voice; Cortney's great designing; Kimble on the verge
of being an official Coast Guard rescue swimmer;  Carter's soccer feats;
Josh's and Emma's writing skills; Sam's basketball and cooking
talents; Jackson's trombone expertise in band; how Taylor saves her
LaCross team in a clutch; Seth, Sarah, Ben, Josh, Liz, Adam, Anna,
and Jerry's string instrument ensemble, and Jen who enabled
the first seven of those to happen.  I know Michael Meacham, and
Sam's Sara are also ballroom dancers--I've just never seen them
dance. Sam is great at many things, including photography;
Parker was a college football player and great at whatever he
does, plus the others are all talented, too.

Steve and Jen have authored several books. Carter and Anna are outstanding
full-time missionaries. Gary is a master CPA, plus organizer for older
Single Adult events; Natalie is a champion at Cross-Fit and super
organizer; David is a superior eye surgeon and speaker; he and
his Julie B are outstanding at whatever they do--leading, helping
others, very quick witted. Steve and John are master construction
leaders; Jerry is one of the best Mohs surgeons in the world. Shawn
and Janie are a major force in keeping ballroom dancing alive in Idaho,
and elsewhere as their hundreds of dance students go out into the world.
Julie is also helping keep the ballroom legacy alive after she and her
partner, Richard from Iowa, placed third in the nation when they were
on the BYU Ballroom Tour Team; she currently teaches a youth ballroom
team. Brian is a fantastic orthopedic surgeon in Tennessee and his wife,
Jennifer is not only a caring nurse, but wonderful in all ways.
Our daughter Jen and her husband Jerry have gone several times to
Guatemala where he does surgery gratis and she teaches the people
in the rural mountainous area how to raise successful gardens, plus
other skills.  And the two great grandchildren in our family--Taitum
and Diesel--are darling and we know will accomplish great things as
they grow up.
Plus, we look forward to our posterity growing as the years go by.
[Eileen's update note: Now a year later, Feb 5, 2022--We have four
granddaughters who are expecting a baby: Heidi in March; Kelsey in April, Katie in June, and Kelly in July. So by Aug 2022 we will have 4 more great-grandchildren.

Most of all each of our posterity--including Abbey, Jacob, William, Rigdon, Avery, Elle, Slate, Olivia, Kayden, Jordan, and Josh--are becoming honest, upright
citizens--kind, compassionate, and helpful to those around them.
Walt and I are blessed beyond measure and love our posterity!
We thank them all for coming to our family or choosing to join our family.
We have plenty of weaknesses, too, but because of the
Savior's Atonement we can overcome them and they will be
remembered no more!

Our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are
precious - just as each father and mother know theirs are.
That's how our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother desire
us to feel about these Spirits we bring from Heaven to this Earth!

Family is Everything...
This is still from 2021:
Steve e-mailed to tell me
how much he is enjoying
Grama A's life story.
He's to where she was
7-8 years old and was
sometimes asked to bring in
the 8 cows from the far pasture
to the barn to be milked.

Here was the Saratoga Springs Temple a year ago - 2021:
Steve and Natalie had me come to
dinner with them. When they picked me
up, we drove around the temple.
The trim has mountains etched in the stone.
A closer view...
[Update from Eileen: Feb 5, 2022 here is a photo of the temple from yesterday posted on our Saratoga Springs group face book page.
If you look closely at the left side at bottom of the mountain, you can see the Mount Timpanogos Temple across the Utah Lake in
Pleasant Grove.
Another photo from Feb 4, 2022 of
this new temple.
Still no announcement for a date of an

Maybe May or June?

Natalie is a wonderful cook...
Roast beef with au jus, potatoes, carrots, green beans,
tossed salad, pineapple, and hot homemade rolls.
After dinner we played a fun new card
game they just got--The Crown.
Then we watched some Super Bowl commercials.
I didn't know you could just Google "2021 Super
Bowl commercials" to watch any time...or for any year.
The commercials cost the sponsors a little less this year it said--
only $5.5 million for 30 seconds!!
Thanks, Steve and Natalie, for delicious food and
a delightful time with you.

Today marks 40 years

Arnold Albertson--
died of colon cancer at
the age of 69 in 1982.
Here he is at age 24 in
September 1937 just
before he and Verna eloped.

Here he is at age 49 in 1962

Love you, Daddy, and I look forward
to seeing you in heaven when my

*I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this February 6th,
I pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...
I share these truths as my testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
