Family is Everything…
A sunny day to start the first full
week of January 2022.

Family is Everything and so are Friends...
My sister, Janice, called from Midvale and
we had a good talk. Her kids got
her an iPhone for Christmas so she
could face chat with them. Now she
says she needs a book: "How to use
the iPhone for Dummies."
(Photo from Dec. 14, when she brought my
birthday present before the storm forecast
for my birthday the next day.)

Thanks for taking the photo, Kathie.
We always miss those who can't come.
I definitely missed not coming today.
I found out that I was exposed to Covid
at a family wedding reception Dec. 28.
This was day 9, so I'm isolating till tomorrow.

(I didn't go because Janice, my sister, called
me yesterday to tell me we were all
exposed to Covid at Sam and Brittany's
wedding reception on Dec. 28.
So this is day 9.)

I liked these thoughts about                                                     WINTER that came in my e-mail today.                                           "Winter, the coldest of the seasons, has long been considered a time of hardship. Often marked with freezing temperatures, ice, and snow, it can be a time of year when food becomes scarce and staying warm becomes a matter of survival. In literature, winter has frequently been used as a literal or metaphorical example of adversity, be it Shakespeare’s “Now is the winter of our discontent,” or, more recently, George R.R. Martin's ominous warning, “Winter is coming.”

Yet wintertime certainly has its charms, and for some it’s the most glorious time of year. The first snow, the crisp air, the stars shining brightly in the sky. The holiday season, [skiing], hot chocolate, nights spent huddled around an open fire. The reasons to embrace winter are numerous, as the following quotes attest. And even if you’re not a fan of the season, rest assured that it will pass eventually — as the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote,

“If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?”

"How many lessons of faith and beauty we should lose, if there were no winter in our year!"
— Thomas Wentworth Higginson, author and abolitionist

For our Wednesday night movie...
My son Gary and I chose:
"Father Goose" a movie from 1964.
This movie has fond memories for me.
Walt did two years in the Public Health Service
for his Military Duty--June 1964 to June 1966.
We were stationed at the Indian Hospital
in Talihina, Oklahoma, SE corner of the state.
Our daughter, MaryJane, turned 1 year old
when we arrived.
The Public Health Service provides medical
physicians for the Coast Guard Cutters.
Walt was assigned to the Coast Guard
Cutter Chatauqua from August thru November
at a weather station in the Pacific Ocean half-way
between Hawaii and Japan.
Then the rest of the time we were in
Talihina. The end of March when our
second baby was due, Walt had me get
a babysitter and took me
to this movie at the only little theater in town.
We didn't know if we'd have to leave the movie
to head to the hospital if I went in to labor.
I enjoyed the movie and glad we made it to
the end. In fact, I went three weeks overdue.
And that's why this movie is special to me.

 Family is Everything…
  Day of the Three Kings
Also known as Ephiany
During the 9 1/2 years on our
four missions together in Mexico,
Central and South America,
we knew it as:

Walt first learned about it on his
2 1/2 years serving in the
Uruguay-Paraguay Mission as a young
man Aug 1954 to Mar 1957.
1950: LDS missionaries arrive in Paraguay for the first time.
Walt got there four years after that.
They had to be 20 before
serving then. This changed
to age 19 in 1960.

I learned a new word today.
At first I thought it was like "ethereal"
then, when I looked closer it was...

e·phem·er·al   /əˈfem(ə)rəl   adjective

1.    lasting for a very short time.

"fashions are ephemeral"

Similar:  Transitory transient  fleeting  passing short-lived                                                              momentary brief  short  cursory  temporary  Impermanent  short-term                                                 fading  evanescent  fugitive  fly-by-night

Opposite: long-lived  permanent

What is the synonym of ephemeral?

Some common synonyms of ephemeral are evanescent, fleeting, fugitive,                                 momentary, transient, and transitory. While all these words mean "lasting                                     or staying only a short time," ephemeral implies striking brevity                                                         of life or duration.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 7, 2022                            Family is everything…                                                                    Below is a quote showing why I do my blog.

Daily Scripture: And I also command you that ye keep a record of this people, according as I have done, upon the plates of Nephi, and keep all these things sacred which I have kept, even as I have kept them; for it is for a wise purpose that they are kept. - Alma 37:2
Daily Quote: We keep the records because of the Lord's commandments, and we use them to support the Church's work of salvation and to help the Saints remember. Records help us see and understand the hand of God and His dealings in our lives. - Steven E. Snow

Coming out of their Corner Canyon First Ward
 ...to David and Julie's home
for a delicious luncheon.
 Luncheon
Anna was so happy that so
many family members and
friends came.
Uncle Shawn and Aunt Janie
drove from Rexburg.
 Aunt Julie, Jackson, Maddie,
and Grama Petersen came from
Saratoga Springs. Jacee drove
from Provo.
 Chicken salad croissant sandwiches
and ham 'n cheese on rolls were
a big hit, as well as all the
yummy sides.
Sweet desserts were brownies,
cookies, and Rice Krispy treats.
 Cousins: Jacee, Maddie, Jackson...
Jacee wore 3" heels to be
taller than Anna.
 ...cousins who've grown up
together share in each
others memorable days.
 Some of Anna's companions from
her interim California Sacramento
Mission came...
Cousins make a grand exit...
Here are Julie's good close-up photos.
Julie, Jacee, Jackson, and Maddie

We missed Anna's Grandfather Brent Black
not being able to be there.
He was able to watch her mission report
on the zoom link. And Anna's darling
Grandmother Sally Black had graduated
to heaven about a year before Anna was
born. She was such an Elect Lady and
I know she still is in heaven!
David and Julie -- Anna's parents,
with Grama Petersen, David's mom.
David is our middle child of 7...
Janie, Gary, Steve,
David,
Julie, Brian, Jen.
We always miss those who can't come.
Some of our family were home with Covid,
some live 21 hours or more away,
some were in Hawaii, some are on missions.
Hugs goodbye...
 ...more goodbyes
 ...some of her Grampa
Brent Black's family were able to come...
Nick and R.J. and his wife.
Loved this sign that said:
The Finnish Line!
It was a great afternoon to
be with Anna on her special day.
I am proud of her for serving
a mission, and I know
Grampa Walt is, too!
*Great Mission, Anna!

I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation
and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ
that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this January 9th,
I pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.

The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
