For our Wednesday night movie,Gary and I watched the first halfof Gandhi, from 1982.The movie Gandhi was released in India on 30 November 1982, in the United Kingdom on 3 December, and in the United States on 8 December. It was praised for a historically accurate portrayal of the life of Gandhi, the Indian independence movement and the deteriorating results of British colonisation on India, and also for Kingsley's performance, its production values and costume design. It became a commercial success grossing $127.8 million on a $22 million budget. The film received a leading eleven nominations at the 55th Academy Awards, winning eight (more than any other film nominated that year), including for the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (for Kingsley). The film was screened retrospectively on 12 August 2016 as the opening film at the Independence Day Film Festival jointly presented by the Indian Directorate of Film Festivals and Ministry of Defence, commemorating the 70th Indian Independence Day.[3][4][5] The British Film Institute ranked Gandhi as the 34th greatest British film of the 20th century.

Today is seven months since Walt graduated from this life to his life in heaven. On February 21 I had photos of his life from 1964-1990. So I willcontinue from there......but first, here is one of my favoritephotos of him when he was in theU.S. Public Health Service. Theyfurnish the physicians for all theU.S. Coast Guard Cutters. Dr. Petersenserved as the Sr. Surgeon aboard theU.S. Coast Guard Cutter-- theChatauqua from August through November 1964.Walt giving our son, Brian, a big hug after the BurleyBobcats won the State A-1 Basketball Championship.A1 then were the biggest high schools in Idaho.February 1991.Mini-Cassia Chamber of Commerce - Nov 1991. We had goneto this dinner for years to support the CofC and our friends.Because Walt did not know he was one of the 4 or 5 recipientsthat year, we had his family waiting in another room until hisname was announced. On the back right is his mother, Jane PetersenHashman (his father had passed away of a heart attack in 1970). Onthe back left is my widowed mother, Verna Huffaker Albertson.come from BYU in Provo. Jen got there for the announcement just in time from an all-star volleyball game in Twin Falls. Gary, and David, on the far right had also come from BYU in Provo.(Just remembered, that's when we had 5 at same time at the Y.) Yes, all 7 graduated from BYU. I copied and framed the lasttuition check. Then they were on their own for theiradvanced schooling.Janie had flown out from Champaign, Illinois withAimee, 3 and Daniel, age 1.Walt with Daniel about a year later - 1992.Walt served as the Burley Idaho West Stake Presidentfrom May 1983 to November 1992--9 1/2 years. He was released by Elder Joe J. Christensen atStake Conference that November weekend. Walt's faithful counselors, Newel Nelson and Joseph Sagers, were also released.Paul Young was called as the new Stake President, and he chose Jack Hill and Robert Kay as his counselors. I wish I could find the photos. They didn't get saved from my old computer to this computer. Sigh!Mision México Mérida 1995-1998 Walt was called to be the mission president of the Mexico Merida Mission for three years July 1995 to July 1998. This is in the Yucatan Peninsula, and includes the city of Cancun which was a four-hour drive from our Mission Home in Merida.
One of the highlights was in November 1997 whenthe Prophet came to our mission.President Hinckley said he had read a book "The Sacred Well" when he was young and had always wanted to go to Chichen Itza. It was a 1 1/2 hourdrive from our Mission Office.Walt's 62nd birthday inthe mission home. Mexico tradition is push the person's faceinto his birthday cake.
