Family is Everything...
E-mail from Brian for the Sibling Book Club for April:
"Hey all,
Sorry for the delay.  I know everyone is ready for the book selection...especially Stevo.   Therefore the book of choice is
A Champions Mind about Peter Sampras.  Just kidding it’s really
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.  Hope you enjoy."

Wednesday is Movie Night with Gary.
We are continuing the
"watching it at our separate
homes at the same time."
For April we are going to watch our
favorite movies, starting with Walt's
favorite movie: "Tora! Tora! Tora!"
...a very authentic account about
the attack on Pearl Harbor,
December 7, 1941.
This movie is from 1970.
The Japanese Navy
Admiral Yamamoto
says at the end:
"I'm afraid we have awakened
a sleeping giant with a great resolve."
It just took from December 7, 1941 to
April 18, 1942 for Jimmy Doolittle's
B-25 Bombers* to hit the Japanese
mainland at Tokyo.
Yes, the "sleeping giant" was awakened!
*And if you want to see a movie
about that, it's
"Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo,"
from 1944 with Spencer Tracy and
Van Johnson.
The raid was planned, led by, and named after United States Army Air Forces Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle, who was promoted two ranks, to Brigadier General, the day after the raid.

Eileen's favorite movie:
Next Wednesday, April 8th, we'll watch my favorite movie...Oh, we watched that in Feburary of love stories: "Love Me Or Leave Me," the story about the 1920s singer Ruth Etting, starring Doris Day. So now I've got to come up with my second favorite movie......hmmm... could be "The Ten Commandments," "The Sound of Music," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Singin' in the Rain," ....or ? ? ?

Family is Everything...
Marci came to help Walt
start his day
 It looked sunny and warm...
  ...sunny, yes...warm no.
We went on a walk but not very far
because it was really cold.
[Found out later it was just 37 degrees.]
The neighbor kids have done sidewalk
chalk drawings in the street.
It brightens up the road.
Karen, the Home Health and Hospice Nurse,
checked Walt's right knee that has been
hurting him this week.
...ready for Hawaiian Haystacks for supper...
rice, chicken gravy, pineapple, celery,
and Chinese noodles.
FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2020
Family is Everything...
Maddie is doing school work
online during the school closure.
 Walt is ready for breakfast...
...and it was a healthy one:
Frosted mini-wheats 'n Cheerios,
whole wheat toast, banana, grapes.
orange, and orange juice.
 Sunny day outside...kids were lining
up for...
 ...the Spring Side Elementary
School teachers' parade through
the neighborhood.
There were police cars and fire engines
escorting them...about 15 cars in
total I think.
 Yummy indoor picnic supper of
fried chicken, macaroni salad,
watermelon, and chips tonight.

We watched an interesting biography
of General Douglas A. MacArthur tonight.

Some thoughts about the upcoming
General Conference
This is what the co-teacher of our Institute sent to
us class members today.
From Camie Williams...
Our Institute co-teacher
Friday, April 3, 2020
I woke up this morning to a “beautiful, clear, spring day.”  I wondered if this was the kind of morning Joseph Smith experienced 200 years ago when he thought to go into a grove, kneel down, and pray to God.  In that moment he experienced despairing darkness unto death but was then immediately encircled in the light of God’s love.  Our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son became a living reality. Not just Joseph’s reality but ours as well.  When he left that now wooded temple, his life, and our lives, have never been, and never will be the same.

One day. One boy. One prayer.

Since this is true, we have the Book of Mormon. We have the priesthood of God. We have a living prophet. We have revelation.  We have hope!  The “immediate goodness of God” can and will dispel all darkness, doubt, and fear.  The glorious light of the restoration has ultimately given us the truth of the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has invited each of us to “come and see.”  Come and see how He has “risen with healing in his wings.”  His love is what mends our broken hearts and seals us tenderly and eternally to Him.  I can “Hear Him” inviting each of us and every child of God to look up, like Joseph Smith on a beautiful, spring morning 200 years ago, so that He can reveal to us His. Beloved. Son.

I truly miss seeing you each week and feeling your testimonies; but want you to know that I know the true gospel of Jesus Christ is on the earth today and will be the “light that shineth in darkness.”

General Conference will be “unforgettable!”
We are so blessed with great teachers in our Saratoga Springs Utah Stake Institute Class.   Our last Institute class was on March 10th...then they were cancelled until this Covid19 pandemic is over.

Camie is a very close friend of Julie here in our ward.

commemorating 200 years
since the First Vision of Joseph Smith.
The Lord's Living Prophet,
President Russell M. Nelson,
opened the Conference.
The following is excerpted from the Church
Newsroom. To read the full report, CLICK HERE.
"President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ

April 4, 2020, that a portion of the Sunday morning
session of general conference will become a worldwide

“We pray that this conference will be memorable and
unforgettable because of the messages you will hear,
the unique announcements which will be made, and
the experiences in which you will be invited to participate,”
President Nelson said from the podium of the Church
Office Building auditorium.
“For example, at the conclusion of the Sunday
morning session, we will convene a worldwide
solemn assembly when I will lead you in the sacred
Hosanna Shout.
We pray that this will be a spiritual
highlight for you as we express in global unison our
profound gratitude to God the Father and
His Beloved Son by praising Them in this unique way.”
Honoring Deity in this way is an especially important and
holy symbol as the Church celebrates in this general
conference (and throughout the year) the bicentennial
of Joseph Smith’s First Vision of the Father and the Son.

It was in that vision that the Father, pointing to
Jesus Christ, told the teenage Joseph,
This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
“The purpose of this and every general conference is to
help us to hear Him,” President Nelson said. “We have
prayed, and invite you to pray, that the Spirit of the Lord
will be with us in such rich abundance that you can hear
the messages that the Savior has especially for you…”
 Other General Conference Speakers

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Quorum of the

One of our favorite Apostles is
Elder D. Todd Christofferson because
we worked with him when Walt was
Mission President of the
Mexico Merida Mission July 1995
to July 1998. Elder Christofferson was
our Area President and he stayed in
the mission home several times, plus
he and his wife Kathy did the mission

most Christ-like person we have ever
personally known.

 We are thankful for an
Apostalic Blessing given to us
today by a Prophet of God
at the conclusion of this

April 2020 General Conference
Information from the Church Website:
“Prophet Announces Eight New Temples
at General Conference
The Church will build its first temple
in the Middle East
President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced
Sunday afternoon, April 5, 2020, plans to
build eight new temples throughout the world.
·         Bahía Blanca, Argentina
·         Tallahassee, Florida
·         Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo
·         Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
·         Benin City, Nigeria
·         Syracuse, Utah
·         Dubai, United Arab Emirates
·         Shanghai, People’s Republic of China
Read more below about each location.
Bahía Blanca, Argentina
The Bahía Blanca temple is the fifth announced
temple in Argentina. Argentina has more than
450,000 Latter-day Saints in approximately
750 congregations. Bahía Blanca is a port
city in the southwest of Argentina’s Buenos
Aires province. Other temples in Argentina
Tallahassee, Florida
Florida is home to more than 150,000 Latter-day
Saints and approximately 275 congregations.
The state's first official Church congregation
was created in Jefferson County in 1897.
By the early 1900’s there were more than
1,200 Church members in Florida. The
Tallahassee Florida Temple will be the state’s
third temple. The other two temples include the
Orlando Florida Temple and the Fort Lauderdale
Florida Temple.
Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo
There are nearly 63,000 Latter-day Saints in about
200 congregations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Lubumbashi, the country’s mining capital, is in the
southern tip of the country. The Lubumbashi temple
will be the second temple in the country. The
Kinshasa temple was the first temple to be built in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo. Missionary work
opened up in the country in early 1986.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
There is presently one temple in Pennsylvania, the
Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple. It was dedicated
on September 18, 2016, by President Henry B. Eyring.
Pennsylvania is home to more than 100,000 Latter-day
Saints with more than 50 congregations. The Church
has a rich heritage in Pennsylvania. Two years prior to
the organization of the Church in 1830 in New York,
Church president Joseph Smith moved to Harmony,
Pennsylvania where he translated most of the
Book of Mormon.
Benin City, Nigeria
There are more than 175,000 Latter-day Saints in
nearly 650 congregations in Nigeria. The Benin City
temple is the third temple to be announced in Nigeria.
The Aba Nigeria Temple was dedicated in 2005 and
the Lagos temple was announced in a previous
conference. The first Nigerians were officially
baptized in 1978. Church membership rapidly
increased thereafter.
Syracuse, Utah
The new temple in Syracuse, located about
35 miles north of Salt Lake City, will be Utah’s
24th temple. As the Church’s world headquarters,
Utah has 2.1 million Church members, which is
approximately 2/3rds of the state’s population of
3.2 million residents. There are 17 operating
temples in the state, including the
Taylorsville Utah Temple and the Orem Utah Temple.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Dubai temple will be the first to be built by the Church
in the Middle East. It will serve thousands of Latter-day
Saints living in two stakes in the Gulf States and a number
of member districts in the Middle East, northern Africa,
eastern Europe and western Asia.
The United Arab Emirates has been an example of tolerance
and religious inclusion since the country was founded in
1971. The first self-standing Church meetinghouse in the
Middle East was dedicated by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland in
the emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2013. Today, there are more
than 1,600 Latter-day Saints in the United Arab Emirates.
The new temple will be built in District 2020, the future
legacy site of Expo 2020 Dubai, after that worldwide
event concludes. The site will include both a meetinghouse
and a temple. The meetinghouse is where Church members
living in Dubai will meet for weekly worship services.
Shanghai, People’s Republic of China.
In making the announcement of a temple in Shanghai, China,
President Nelson gave the following remarks. “Context for
the plan for Shanghai is very important. For more than two
decades, temple worthy members in the People’s Republic
of China have attended the Hong Kong China Temple. But in
July 2019, that temple was closed for long planned and much
needed renovation. In Shanghai, a modest multipurpose
meeting place will provide a way for Chinese members to
continue to participate in ordinances of the temple—in the
People’s Republic of China—for them and their ancestors,”
he said.
President Nelson continued, “In every country, this Church
teaches its members to honor, obey and sustain the law.
We teach the importance of the family, of being good parents,
and exemplary citizens. Because we respect the laws and
regulations of the People’s Republic of China, the Church
does not send proselyting missionaries there; nor will
we do so now.”
He concluded, “Expatriate and Chinese congregations
will continue to meet separately. The Church’s legal
status there remains unchanged. In an initial phase
of facility use, entry will be by appointment only.
The Shanghai Temple will not be a temple for
tourists from other countries.”

Here's one article about what President Nelson announced
at the beginning of General Conference Saturday.
"In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, “solemn assemblies” are rare occasions that mark some of the religion’s holiest transitions, like the installation of a new prophet, the dedication of a temple, or the canonization of scripture.
"They’re not usually surprise events. But President Russell M. Nelson, speaking this morning on the first day of the church’s two-day General Conference, dropped a bombshell when he said that Sunday’s meetings will feature one. He did not discuss why or give much indication of what church members should expect, though he mentioned that there would be “unique announcements” during the meeting. Naturally, Mormon social media has been alive with speculations...
"...Scheduling an unusual hosanna shout on Palm Sunday may just be a fortuitous coincidence. In any case, the point of a hosanna—which beseeches Christ, as the followers lining the street in Jerusalem, to “save us!”—is certainly timely for a global pandemic."
We had a delicious steak dinner
after General Conference ended.
We loved every message and every
minute of General Conference.
It is never to be forgotten!
 We enjoy being together.
We are so thankful for
The Plan of Salvation
and the Atonement of
Jesus Christ
that makes this
Great Plan operational.
At the end of this April 5th,
we pray you have had a restful,
 peaceful, and spiritual
