We were wishing we could be in Wendell
this morning for the graveside service
of our brother-in-law,
Dale Allen Bunn
in Wendell, Idaho.
This is the printed program Mitch
e-mailed a copy of to us.

  Here's the photo they had
of Dale on the inside left of
the printed program above
the poem.

He never looked for praises
He was never one to boast
He just went on quietly working
For those he loved the most.
His dreams were seldom spoken
His wants were very few
And most of the time
his worries went unspoken too.
He was there....
A firm foundation
Through all our storms of life.
A sturdy hand to hold to
In times of stress and strife.
A true friend we could turn to
When times were good or bad.
One of our greatest blessings,
The man that we called Dad.

Dale Allen Bunn
Dale Allen Bunn passed away April 17, 2020 at his home
in Wendell, ID. He was 91 years old.
Born to Claire Mae (Rosenbaum) and Donald Lee Bunn
on a spring day in 1929 March 12 in Powhattan Kansas,
he joined his older brother William (Bill). His younger sister
Ruth was born 3 years later. Tragically, his father passed
when Dale was four. His baby brother James Merritt was
added to the clan after Mae married Robert Merritt. That
same year the family gathered their belongings, piled into
one truck and left Kansas for Oregon, adults and baby Jim
in the front, and Bill, Dale, and Ruth riding in the back of
the truck. Traveling with very little means they crossed the
country during the depression, having to stop and find odd
jobs for food and fuel until arriving in Wendell, Idaho during
harvest time where they worked, stayed, and prospered.
Prosperity wasn’t handed over; it came through hard work
and horse sense. Dale worked as a range hand clearing sage
land, moving cattle from the Sand Springs Ranch to the
Fir Grove Ranch overlooking the Camas Prairie. He drove
truck for Peter Kiewit, constructing highways throughout
southern Idaho and western Wyoming, and long haul for
Neil Ambrose and Montana Express. He also worked at
auto and truck repair, was an owner and operator of spud
and hay trucks, city dog catcher, and cemetery sexton. He
joined his brother – Bill, in law enforcement first serving as
Wendell Chief of Police and later as a Gooding County
Deputy fulfilling his calling in serving family and community.
He impressed, teased, and charmed all who met him,
including a spirited red-headed beauty Phyllis Petersen
who he married in 1950 at the Portland Rose Gardens.
The happy couple were soon headed back to Kansas as
Dale had joined the U.S. Air Force in December 1951. They
were blessed with a baby boy Donald, two years later
joined by younger brother Matt. Upon discharge in May of
1956 the growing family moved back to Wendell and added
two more boys Mitch and Max Clifford. Twin girls Beverly
and Brenda completed their family in 1968.
Life in Wendell was full of activity and energy propelled
by kids, dogs, and horses. One great joy was loading up
the family and heading to the mountains with the horses
for fall hunting season. He brought everyone along on
Mustanging trips chasing, roping, and capturing wild
mustangs on the Bruneau desert and Spar Canyon
country on the east fork of the Salmon River.  His love
of kids and commotion led him into spearheading the
annual City of Wendell Easter Egg Hunt, and the
Halloween parade and costume contest which ended
at the old football field where the kids were greeted by
Santa on a city fire truck. He was a central figure in the
community and was loved and respected by many of the
youth with whom he had a chance to interact.
Despite a formal education limited by life’s hard
requirements, he was looked to by generations for advice
and counsel. He was a dedicated member of the American
Legion Post 41 for 66 years. Late into his days Dale
ontinued to impress, tease, and charm the people of
Gooding County becoming an uncle, Grandpa, and friend
to hundreds of people that will miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother
- William Bill Bunn, younger brother - James Merritt,
grandson - Tyler Allen Bunn, son-in-law - Patrick Inglis,
and his wife of 64 years - Phyllis Petersen Bunn.
Dale leaves behind his sister - Ruth Lackey, and his
six children - Donald (Jeanine) Bunn, Matthew (Brenda) Bunn,
Mitchell (Karen) Bunn, Max Clifford (Stephanie), Beverly Inglis,
Brenda (Jerry) Tagestad, and 20 grandchildren and 15 great
grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Alliance Home Health
Hospice especially Eva Rheuby for her gentle and caring
professionalism.
A private family graveside service was held on Tuesday,
April 21, 2020 at the Wendell Cemetery in Wendell.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction
of Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel.
Mitch texted that Susie and Wilf Sommerkorn
drove up from Kaysville for the graveside service.
They were happy to have them come.
Susie is Aunt Tess and Uncle Austin's daughter.
So she is our Prescott cousin.
This photo is from Aug 29, 2015 at
a Cemetery near Boise.
Does anyone know who's funeral?
Susie is next to Walt in the
turquoise top.
Is that Aunt Tess on the far left?
Dale Bunn is on the second row
between Susie and Andrea.
I can also see Kevin behind Bonnie Ann.
Cliff, Matt, Mitch, and Dale Petersen.
Jim Prescott is on the right of Walt.

Mitch is going to send us photos taken today.

Family is Everything...
Today--Max guarding us all again.
Walt having some trail mix.
Walt and I wondered what the two
UPS trucks were parked out
front for. We never found out.
We're ready with popcorn and 7-Up
Wednesday is
Movie Night with Gary.
Next week I'm trying to decide
between two of my favorites.
My very favorite movie of all time
is "Love Me Or Leave Me" with
Doris Day about the life of a
1920s singer Ruth Etting.
We watched that the month
we did musicals, so I have to come
up with another favorite.
I've narrowed it down to three:
"Calamity Jane" from 1953
or
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind"
from 1977
or "Cinderella" from 1950
We'll see what I decided for
next Wednesday, April 29th, 2020.

Tonight we are watching
an old movie from 1941 that
a remake was done in 1978
"Heaven Can Wait."
We have seen that one but have
not seen the first one:
We liked it.
The 1978 remake "Heaven Can Wait"
had much of the same dialogue.
It had originally been a play on
Broadway in 1938 by the name of
"Heaven Can Wait."
Walt goes to bed about ten o'clock, and then I
work on my blog, follow family and friends
on face book, or sometimes watch some
recordings I've saved on TV.
I was going through to delete the news
programs that we have set to automatically
record, and some movies that I record that
I decide I am not going to watch so I
delete them.
Tonight I came to a "History of the Saints"
program that I didn't know if we'd seen
or not, it was entitled:
"From Pentecost to Persecution."
When I played it we had not seen it.
It had an answer to a question I've had
for a long time about the revelation that
Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery had in
the Kirtland Temple on Easter Sunday,
April 3, 1836.
This Sabbath was exactly one week
after the dedication of the
Kirtland Temple on March 27, 1836.
The Lord appeared to Joseph and Oliver.
He told Joseph his sins were forgiven
and that He accepted This House
of the Lord--the Kirtland Temple.
Then other angelic messengers appeared
who brought back powerful priesthood keys.
Moses brought the keys of gathering Israel.
Elias brought the keys of the Gospel of Abraham.
Elijah brought the keys of sealing families together.
Before this I was never sure about what the
exact keys were that Elias brought back, so
I was so interested to learn it was the keys of the
Gospel of Abraham, which also includes temple marriage.
Elijah brought the keys of sealing this temple marriage.
I want to study this out further.

Family is Everything...
Marci came to help Walt
start his day.
Walt came and stood by his
birthday photo board today
before the photos are taken down
before Julie puts up photos for
John's birthday tomorrow.

 Karen came this afternoon to
check Walt. His blood pressure
is 132/70, lungs clear.

Walt has a few more PVC's than normal.
...all's quiet on the eastern front...
In my Mom's photos, I found two that I'd
been looking for a long time:
This one is in Jan. 1949
It snowed so much that '48-49 winter that
we were out of school a whole lot!
I was tall for age 10...seems like I
was always the tallest girl in my class,
ending up to be 5' 7 1/2".
This was Christmas Eve 1949 at my
Grampa 'n Grama Huffaker's home with
five of my six Huffaker cousins:
Lucy Huffaker and
Linda, Louise, Lenore, and Rodney
Christensen.
(The other cousin was Sharon Huffaker
who lived in California.)
I had just turned 11 on Dec. 15, and
I remember I was trying to get Rod
to turn around so his face could
be seen in the photo.
I didn't succeed.
You can see we didn't have
"fancy-dancy Christmas socks"
to hang up, just the everyday long
stockings that we wore in the winter.
Sure enough, they were filled with
candy and small toys the next
morning with a real orange in the toe.
What fun childhood memories!

Family is Everything...
Happy Birthday to Jerry Brewer
in Rochester, Minnesota.
We hope you have a great Day!
Fun birthday cake....
with lots of candles!

Marci came to help
Walt start his day.
Jackson mowed the front lawn this morning.
I didn't get a photo of Maddie
mowing the back lawn this afternoon.
Walt was feeling "yucky" today, so
he mostly slept.
I looked through a lot of photos of
my Mom and Dad, and
Grampa 'n Grama Huffaker and
uncles, aunts, and cousins.
It was a great stroll down
memory lane of my growing up years.
Here's one

Family is Everything...
Walt was feeling better today,
but he was so shaky he could
hardly walk, so everyone came
in our bedroom to have the
sacrament, blessed by John,
and passed by Jackson.
John and Julie and kids
went to the canyon this afternoon.
John with his kids in the canyon today.
I didn't take one photo today,
so here's one of us from years gone by.
Walt's University of Idaho graduation
photo from 1959,
my photo from my college days
at Stevens' Henager Business College
and then BYU - 1957-1961
Here we are in August 1960, the
weekend we got pinned.
(That's "engaged to be engaged.")
We still enjoy being together.
