Family is Everything…
Janie left this morning to teach
three dance classes at BYU Idaho.
She does this on Mondays and Wednesdays.

We were here at the Fisher's home
with Michael most of the day.
He introduced Grampa to the TV series "Survival."
Grampa could not see the point of it.

Jeff Probst is a four-time Emmy Award winner for "Outstanding Reality Host."                                                                                    He has traveled the world serving as both host and executive producer for Survivor.                                                                          He received an Emmy in 2001 when the show won the  first ever  Outstanding                                                                              Non-Fiction Program (Special Class) award. In 2015 Survivor celebrated its 30th edition                                                                    and 15 years since the series premiered on May 31, 2000. Survivor premiered its                                                                          34th season in March 2017 and marked the show's 500th episode.
When Janie got home a little after two o'clock,
she began preparing a birthday cake to celebrate
Katie's and Parker's birthdays:
Parker - January 31
Katie - February 3
(Parker and Katie had a separate birthday party for
their daughter, Taitum, who turned three on Jan. 28.)
Then Janie decided to have a dinner
for the 12 who were coming.
So she hurried and shopped for the food, then baked
seasoned chicken breasts, and covering cooked potatoes with
frozen peas and white sauce, plus a tossed
salad and fruit.
I told her she had Grama Rie's and Grama Jane's genes
in that she could have a full-course meal on the table
lickety split with no advanced notice
of guests coming.

Katie and Parker, Michael, Jordan, Heidi.
Ashley, Diesel, Cooper, Janie...

Grama Eileen, Grampa Walt, and
Taitum between Parker and Katie.

Heidi helped Taitum eat.

...and the birthday cake is Katie's favorite--
strawberries in Strawberry Danish dessert
and cream cheese over white cake.
There also may be Cool Whip under there somewhere.
We got the recipe back in 2000 from Terry Evans
when Ed was a counselor to Walt in the Singles' Ward.
(Ed and Terry are on a mission in Africa right now.)

Fisher's have a birthday tradition that I love.
After the cake is served and eaten, everyone
at the table--in order of youngest to oldest
tells what they love about the birthday person.
Parker got a lot of "he's so fun, he makes everyone
feel comfortable around him, he includes each person,
he is kind, he works hard, he is a great husband and father..."

Katie is loved for "being a fun person, makes everyone
feel happy, is upbeat, friendly to all,
is organized with the dance teams she's
over and recently adding coaching the high school
cheer squad, is a great wife and mother, sister and
daughter. I told them that I was happy that they
felt it was important to go to Church each Sunday
even though it is not easy taking a baby and a
toddler to Church."
And, of course, she has an extra special place in my
heart because her name is
"Katie Eileen."

Grampa said when he first met Parker who was tall,
very athletic with a beard, he wondered if he was
someone he wanted his granddaughter to marry,
but he soon found out how genuine and gentle
Parker was with Katie and now with his children.

Taitum put on a little show for us
singing along with songs from "Frozen,"
and "Coco."
 Ashley joined in helping Taitum
act out some of the dance moves.
Katie and Grandma Janie had a
little heart-to-heart before
the Andersons went home.
Well, Parker took the kids home while
Katie had to go teach her dance lift class
from 8:30 to 10:00 tonight.
That's the only time this class that
she is coaching could all get together.
Daniel face timed in from Washington D.C.
to tell his sister how much he loved her,
and to tell his brother-in-law how he
loved him, too, for taking such good
care of his sister.
Shawn also face timed from Salt Lake where he's
staying overnight in Utah on
Idaho Ballroom business.
Shawn also told Parker he loved him for taking
such good care of his daughter.
He loved Katie for her love of dance and that
they could work together in dance now.
He loved that he could talk well
with each one of them.

Family is Everything…
Happy New Year to the Chinese.

We are sad to miss Institute today.
But it is okay because we are with family in Idaho.
Today for Institute is Moses 4.

Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden

Here are some more quotes about Moses 4:
Moses 4:1–19,” The Pearl of Great Price Student Manual (2017)

Moses 4:1–6

How Lucifer Became the Devil

Moses 4:1. “That Satan, Whom

Thou Hast Commanded”

This phrase refers to a previous confrontation
Moses had with Satan (see Moses 1:12–22).
Moses had commanded Satan, in the name
of Jesus Christto depart.

Moses 4:1. The Council in Heaven

President Joseph Fielding Smith (1876–1972)
taught: “In the former [premortal] life we were
spirits. In order that we should advance and
eventually gain the goal of perfection, it was
made known that we would receive
tabernacles of flesh and bones and have to
pass through mortality where we would be
tried and proved to see if we, by trial, would
prepare ourselves for exaltation.” He further
stated that when our Heavenly Father
presented His plan to His children in a council
in heaven, “the thought of passing through
mortality and partaking of all the vicissitudes
[hardships] of earth life in which they would gain experiences through suffering, pain, sorrow,
temptation and affliction, as well as the
pleasures of life in this mundane existence,
and then, if faithful, passing on through the
resurrection to eternal life in the kingdom of
God, to be like him, filled them with the spirit
of rejoicing, and they ‘shouted for joy’
[Job 38:1–7]” (Doctrines of Salvation,
comp. Bruce R. McConkie [1954], 1:57–58).

Moses 4:1–2. The Plan of

Our Father in Heaven

Elder Neal A. Maxwell (1926–2004) of the
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said that it is
“extremely important to get straight what
happened
n that premortal council. It was not an
unstructured meeting, nor was it a
discussion between plans,
nor an idea-producing session, as to how to
formulate the plan for salvation and carry it
out. Our Father’s plan was known, and the
actual question put was whom the Father
should send to carry out the plan”
Deposition of a Disciple [1976], 11;
see also John 7:16–18).

Moses 4:1–4. Satan and His

Opposition to

Heavenly Father’s Plan

In the premortal existence, Satan was
called “Lucifer,” which means “the Shining
One” or “Lightbringer.” He was a “son of
the morning” (see Isaiah 14:12;
D&C 76:25–27) and had potential to
do much good. But Lucifer sought to obtain
the throne, honor, power, and glory of
Heavenly Father (see D&C 29:3676:28
Moses 4:1). To do so, he proposed to “redeem
all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost”
(Moses 4:1). However, his proposal was
based on compulsion and would therefore
eliminate the agency of Heavenly Father’s
children and the need for a Savior to suffer
and redeem them.

Moses 4:3. The Agency of Man

Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the
Twelve Apostles said: “Satan’s method of
assuring ‘that one soul shall not be lost’
(Moses 4:1) would be to ‘destroy the
agency of man’ (Moses 4:3). Under his plan,
Satan would have been our master, and he
would have ‘[led us] captive at his will’
(Moses 4:4). Without the power of choice,
we would have been mere robots or puppets
in his hands” (“Free Agency and Freedom,”
in Monte S. Nyman and Charles D. Tate Jr., eds., The Book of Mormon: Second Nephi,
The Doctrinal Structure [1989], 4).

Moses 4:4. Satan’s Desires

President Joseph F. Smith (1838–1918)
taught: “Let it not be forgotten that the evil
one has great power in the earth, and that
by every possible means he seeks to darken
the minds of men and then offers them
falsehood and deception in the guise of truth.
Satan is a skillful imitator, and as genuine
gospel truth is given the world in
ever-increasing abundance, so he spreads
the counterfeit coin of false doctrine.
Beware of his spurious currency, it will
purchase for you nothing but
disappointment, misery and spiritual death” (“Witchcraft,” Juvenile Instructor,
Sept. 15, 1902, 562).

Moses 4:6. Satan Does Not

Know the Mind of God

Elder James E. Talmage (1862–1933) of
the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explained
that Satan actually “furthered the purposes of
the Creator by tempting Eve; yet his design
was to thwart the Lord’s plan. We are definitely
told that ‘he knew not the mind of God,
wherefore he sought to destroy the world.’
[Moses 4:6.] Yet his diabolical effort, far
from being the initiatory step toward
destruction, contributed to the plan of
man’s eternal progression” (The Articles of Faith,
12th ed. [1924], 69).

Moses 4:7–19

The Fall of Adam and Eve

Moses 4:10. “Ye Shall Not Surely Die”

God told Adam that he would die if he ate
the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good
and evil. Satan’s statement that Adam
would not die was an evil exploitation and
illustrates the pernicious nature of Satan,
“the father of all lies” (Moses 4:4), for he
attempted to show God as a liar. But God
is a God of truth and cannot lie (see Ether 3:12).
Soon after Adam and Eve partook of the
forbidden fruit, they were forced to leave
the garden and the presence of the Lord,
thus suffering a spiritual death. Additionally,
when they fell, their bodies changed from a
nonmortal state to a mortal state and thus
became subject to physical death.
(See D&C 29:40–43.)

Moses 4:11. “Ye Shall Be As

Gods, Knowing

Good and Evil”

When Adam and Eve partook of the fruit
they became mortal and, in the sense of
knowing good and evil, began to become
like God. But Satan implied that God’s
forbidding them to partake of the fruit was
because God did not want them to become
as the Gods, trying to make it appear that
God’s motives were selfish. The truth is that
God’s work and glory is to help all of His
children to one day become as He is
(see Moses 1:39).

Moses 4:12. Why Did Adam and

Eve Partake of the Fruit?

tree
Neither Adam nor
Eve partook of the
fruit because they
loved Satan more
than God or because
they wanted to
rebel against God.
Elder Dallin H. Oaks
of the Quorum of the
Twelve Apostles
taught:
“It was Eve who first transgressed the limits
of Eden in order to initiate the conditions of
mortality. Her act, whatever its nature, was
formally a transgression but eternally a
glorious necessity to open the doorway
toward eternal life. Adam showed his
wisdom by doing the same. And thus
Eve and ‘Adam fell that men might be’
 [2 Nephi 2:25].
“Some Christians condemn Eve for her
act, concluding that she and her daughters
are somehow flawed by it. Not the Latter-day
Saints! Informed by revelation, we celebrate
Eve’s act and honor her wisdom and courage
in the great episode, called the Fall. … Brigham
Young declared, ‘We should never blame
Mother Eve, not the least’ (in Journal of Discourses, 13:145). Elder Joseph Fielding
Smith said: ‘I never speak of the part Eve
took in this fall as a sin, nor do I accuse
Adam of a sin. … This was a transgression
of the law, but not a sin … for it was something
that Adam and Eve had to do!’ [Doctrines of Salvation, 1:114–15]” (“The Great Plan of Happiness,” Ensign,Nov. 1993, 73).

Moses 4:12. The Difference

between

Transgression and Sin

Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the
Twelve Apostles said that the “contrast
between a sin and a transgression reminds
us of the careful wording in the second article
of faith: ‘We believe that men will be punished
for their own sins, and not for Adam’s
transgression’ (italics added). It also echoes a
familiar distinction in the law. Some acts, like
murder, are crimes because they are inherently
wrong. Other acts, like operating without a
license, are crimes only because they are
legally prohibited. Under these distinctions,
the act that produced the Fall was not a sin—
inherently wrong—but a transgression—
wrong because it was formally prohibited.
These words are not always used to denote
something different, but this distinction seems
meaningful in the circumstances of the Fall”
(“The Great Plan,” 73).
Another meaning of the word transgress is
“to go beyond established limits or conditions.
” Adam and Eve went beyond the limits that
would have kept them in the Garden of Eden
forever, and in so doing helped provide the
opportunity of mortality for all of us.

Moses 4:14. Adam and Eve Tried

to Hide from God

Moses 3:25 tells us that before the Fall Adam
and Eve were not ashamed, despite their
nakedness. Once they gained knowledge of
good and evil, they became conscious of their disobedience and unworthiness before God.
It may be said that they became aware and
ashamed of their spiritual “nakedness.”
As fallen beings, they had to face God with a
sense of their own guilt.
As Alma explained to his son Corianton,
“Ye cannot hide your crimes from God; and
except ye repent they will stand as a
testimony against you at the last day”
(Alma 39:8; see also
2 Nephi 9:14).

Moses 4:15–19. God Asked Adam

and Eve

If They Had Eaten the Fruit

God “knoweth all things, and there is not anything
save he knows it” (2 Nephi 9:20). Why then did
God ask Adam and Eve the questions in
Moses 4:15–19? Because, as Elder
Bruce R. McConkie (1915–85) of the
Quorum of the
Twelve Apostles taught, “personal
accountability
for all of one’s acts underlies the whole gospel
plan and is the natural outgrowth of the law of
free agency”
(Mormon Doctrine, 2nd ed. [1966], 15).

we looked out the window

 We saw a whole bunch
of new snow!
So we didn't go...
...anywhere today.
Janie is cooking pork chops 'n potatoes for supper.
Sitting by the fire, we watched a movie
"The Guensey Literary
and Potato Peel Pie Society."
We liked it a lot!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a 2018 historical romantic-drama film based on the 2008 novel of the same name, written by Mary Ann Shafferand Annie Barrows. The film stars Lily James and Michiel Huisman. Set in 1946, the plot follows a single young woman--a London-based writer-- who begins exchanging letters with a resident on the island of Guernsey, which was under German occupation during
World War II.

This is the stirring conclusion of
President Trump's 2019
State of the Union Address:
"Think of this Capitol -- think of this very chamber, where lawmakers before you voted to end slavery, to build the railroads and the highways, to defeat fascism, to secure civil rights,
to face down an evil empire.

Here tonight, we have legislators from across this magnificent republic. You have come from the rocky shores of Maine and the volcanic peaks of Hawaii; from the snowy woods of Wisconsin and the red deserts of Arizona; from the green farms of Kentucky and the golden beaches of California. Together, we represent the most

extraordinary Nation in all of history.

What will we do with this moment? How will we be remembered?
I ask the men and women of this Congress: Look at the opportunities before us! Our most thrilling achievements are still ahead. Our most exciting journeys still await. Our biggest victories are still to come.
We have not yet begun to dream.
We must choose whether we are defined by our differences --
or whether we dare to transcend them.
We must choose whether we will squander our inheritance -- or whether we will proudly declare that we are Americans. We do the incredible. We defy the impossible. We conquer the unknown.
This is the time to re-ignite the American imagination. This is the time to search for the tallest summit, and set our sights on the brightest star. This is the time to rekindle the bonds of love and loyalty and memory that link us together as citizens,
as neighbors, as patriots.
This is our future -- our fate -- and our choice to make.
I am asking you to choose greatness.
No matter the trials we face, no matter the challenges to come,
we must go forward together.
We must keep America first in our hearts. We must keep freedom alive in our souls. And we must always keep faith in America's destiny --
that one Nation, under God, must be the hope and the promise and
the light and the glory among all the nations of the world!
Thank you. God Bless You, God Bless America, and good night!"

This has been a good day with the Fisher family.
Thank you for all you do for us. We love you!

    Family is Everything…
    And Friends are, too.
    Ruth Melling's granddaughter, Courtney Black,
got home from her Temple Square Mission today.
    Courtney is the daughter of
    Steve and JaNae' Melling Black.
What an exciting day for our friends!
Janie is off this morning to teach her
three dance classes at BYU Idaho.
Michael got his online Geometry lesson
    finished early today.
Grampa  enjoyed his cereal, English muffins,
    and orange juice for breakfast.
Janie and Shawn, thank you for a
wonderful five days together in Rexburg.
Shawn, thank you for driving us
to Salt Lake to rendezous with Gary.
(The photos we took of you and Gary
    at the exchange didn't take....guess
the cell camera was too cold in that icy wind.)
Gary, thank you for driving us from
your office in Sugar House on home
    to Saratoga Springs.

It's nice to go travelin', but
it's always nice to get back home.

    Family is Everything…

Julie, thanks for driving us to and from
    the Neurology Clinic at the
    University of Utah where Walt
    had a 4-month follow up
    with the Social Worker.
       Dr. Anderson asked several questions
    about Walt's well being.
    Julie gave her perceptions of
how her Dad is doing health-wise--
    mentally and physically.
      Gary gave good insights also
    about his Dad's mental and
    physical condition.
Dr. Anderson said that a diagnosis of
    Lewy Body Dimentia
    is not encouraging.
He said he won't need to see Walt again
until August 8th for a six-month follow up.
We stopped at the Red Robin on
Foothill Drive for a late lunch.
Walt and I split their Arctic Cod and Chips,
and Julie got a Teriaki Chicken sandwich.
Walt and I had never been to a Red Robin.
We thought the history of how it started was interesting.

Our History. Sam's Tavern opens near the University of Washington. Sam, the owner, is known to sing “When the RedRed Robin (Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along)”
    with his barbershop quartet.
He loves the song so much that he changes the name to Sam's Red Robin.
What Red Robin restaurants looked like from the 1960s on till recently.

In 1969, local Seattle restaurant entrepreneur Gerry Kingen bought the restaurant and expanded it. The business dropped the "Sam's" and simply became Red Robin. ... In 1980, Red Robin opened a restaurantin Portland, Oregon.
Walt had a nap when we got home.
I watched the news and then
the TCM 1969 movie "Goodbye, Mr. Chips."
Peter O'Toole and Petula Clark are wonderful
    together in this movie.

    FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2019
    Family is Everything…
Jacee rushed off with her Mom to have
something sewn for her from the fabric
that Janie got in L.A. last Friday.
Jacee is almost finished with her Driver's Ed course
and then she will have her driver's license.
We see this view of Utah Lake as
we drive to the Club House to exercise.
When we're on the stationery bikes, we
also have a view of the lake and mountains.

A nice little gal who was practicing gymnastics
in the Club House took a photo of us.
Then she got a closer view.
We love the last ray of the sun as they
    hit the mountains at sunset.

    SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2019
    Family is Everything…
Julie and John as a "Ma and Pa" for Trek in July
had some of their "kids" over for a waffle breakfast...

...and giving some instructions for the
    preparations needed for Trek.
Chantel came to help for home health
My sister, Janice, came to see us.
We don't get to see her very often.
Janice and Jeff live in Midvale
They brought us a Valentine gift...
      ...beautiful hydrangas.

We always love to have Janice and Jeff
    come to see us.
Julie and Maddie drove to Provo
for a BYU Youth Ballroom team practice.
      This 20th Twentieth Century Fox
    symbol always reminds me of
when it came on at  the
    movie shown on Friday nights
at our Ward building in Wendell
when I was a young girl.
      We watched Charlton Heston...
... The Agony and the Ecstasy.
We have seen it before, but it's excellent.
Walt had chosen the book a couple of years
ago for our family Sibling Book Club.
(Our kids started the SBC in 2014, but they
let us also be a part of it when we returned
from our three years of serving in the
    San Salvador El Salvador Temple.)

At the beginning of this movie it shows all
    of Michelangelo's famous sculptures--
    which are breathtaking!
The director of this movie, Carol Reed, had
photographs taken of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling
that were enlarged for the movie.
She said for many who saw the movie it would be
the only time they would see these
    famous Michelangelo paintings.
The Agony and the Ecstasy is a 1965 American film starring Charlton Heston as Michelangelo and Rex Harrison as Pope Julius II. The film was partly based on Irving Stone's biographical novel The Agony and the Ecstasy. This film deals with the conflicts of Michelangelo and Pope Julius II during
the painting of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling.
We also watched part of Calamity Jane

and watched two movies that dealt with
    racial conflicts
"In the Heat of the Night"
    and "The Defiant Ones"
    SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2019
    Family is Everything…
Madison Marie Peterson was set apart today
as the Second Counselor in the Beehive Presidency
of the Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward.
Brother Doug Graham, Second Counselor in
the Bishopric, gave her a wonderful blessing
with her setting apart. He told Maddie
that Heavenly Father knew her and loved her,
    plus several other blessings.
The others in the Priesthood circle were:
    Michael Miller, First Counselor,
John B. Peterson, her father, and
    Walter R. Petersen, her grandfather.
We were going home from Church at 2:40.
We had another wonderful Sunday dinner.
    Roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn,
    Texas-size hot rolls, and lemonade.
John always cooks a delicious dinner,
    usually a Tri-Tip Roast.
    What a pretty table setting...
...with red plates and red goblets.
    Someone helped do Rigdon's loadiing.
Gary came at 4:00 with dessert for us.
     He said he chose his
    "go-to" favorite...
    ...hot fudge brownie sundae.
    Rigdon also liked the Valentine
cookies that Janice and Jeff brought
    for them yesterday.

Grampa and Gary had some one-on-one time
while I drove over to our ward for
    my ministering teaching interview
    with the Relief Society president.
Our wonderful Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward
    Relief Society Presidency
stayed when our block ended at 2:05 p.m.
    and did Ministering Teacher interviews
    until 6:00 p.m. or later...
    President -- Valerie Green
    First Counselor -- Stephanie Howell
    Second Counselor -- Gentry Wright

    They are truly elect ladies!
We love and appreciate their service for us.
