Family is Everything…
Julie drove Jacee to Provo for a
Ballroom practice.
 Scott came from Pointe Meadows
to do home health physical therapy
for Walter Ray.
 They taped his knees with
KT tape.
Scott brought Cam with him, a P.T.
student intern here from San Diego.
Gary and Isaac came for the afternoon.
Gary brought lunch for everyone to
have plenty of energy for the
pre-appointed afternoon to
play Dungeons and Dragons.
Jackson is the Dungeon Master for
Maddie, Isaac, and Gary.
Grampa is watching them play DandD.
Grampa came back into our cozy cottage
and said: "I have no idea what they are doing."
Dungeons & Dragons (abbreviated as D&D) is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game (RPG) originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. It was first published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. (TSR). The game has been published by Wizards of the Coast now a subsidiary of Hasbro) since 1997. It was derived from miniature wargames with a variation of Chainmail serving as the initial rule system. D&D's publication is commonly recognized as the beginning of modern role-playing games and the role-playing game industry.
D&D departs from traditional wargaming and allows each player to create their own character to play instead of a military formation. These characters embark upon imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master serves as the game's referee and storyteller while maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur, and playing the role of the inhabitants. The characters form a party that interacts with the setting's inhabitants, and each other. Together they solve dilemmas, engage in battles, and gather treasure and knowledge. In the process the characters earn experience points in order to rise in levels, and become increasingly powerful over a series of sessions.
The early success of Dungeons &Dragons led to a proliferation of similar game systems. Despite the competition, D&D has remained as the market leader in the role-playing game industry.[5] In 1977, the game was split into two branches: the relatively rules-light game system of basic Dungeons & Dragons and the more structured, rules-heavy game system of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons(abbreviated as AD&D).[1][2][6] AD&D 2nd Edition was published in 1989. In 2000, a new system was released as Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition; a revised version 3.5 was released in June 2003. These rules formed the basis of the d20 System which is available under the Open Game License (OGL) for use by other publishers. D&D 4th edition was released in June 2008.[7][8] The 5th edition, the most recent, was released during the second half of 2014.
As of 2004, Dungeons & Dragons remained the best-known and best-selling role-playing game, with an estimated 20 million people having played the game and more than US$1 billion in book and equipment sales.
Some of the controversies that have surrounded it, particularly a moral panic in the 1980s falsely linking it to Satanism and suicide. The game has won multiple awards and has been translated into many languages beyond the original English.

Controversy and notoriety
At various times in its history, Dungeons & Dragons has received negative publicity, in particular from some Christian groups, for alleged promotion of such practices as devil worshipwitchcraft, suicide, and murder, and for the presence of naked breasts in drawings of female humanoids in the original AD&D manuals (mainly monsters such as harpiessuccubi, etc.).
These controversies led TSR to remove many potentially controversial references and artwork when releasing the 2nd Edition of AD&D.  Many of these references, including the use of the names "devils" and "demons", were reintroduced in the 3rd edition. The moral panic over the game led to problems for fans of D&D who faced social ostracism, unfair treatment, and false association with the occult and Satanism, regardless of an individual fan's actual religious affiliation and beliefs.
Dungeons & Dragons has been the subject of rumors regarding players having difficulty separating fantasy from reality, even leading to psychotic episodes. The most notable of these was the saga of James Dallas Egbert III, the facts of which were fictionalized in the novel Mazes and Monsters and later made into a TV movie in 1982 starring Tom Hanks. The game was blamed for some of the actions of Chris Pritchard, who was convicted in 1990 of murdering his stepfather. Research by various psychologists, starting with Armando Simon, has concluded that no harmful effects are related to the playing of D&D.
The game's commercial success was a factor that led to lawsuits regarding distribution of royalties between original creators Gygax and Arneson.
Dungeons & Dragons has, however, been cited as encouraging people to socialize weekly or biweekly, teaching problem solving skills which can be beneficial in adult life, and teaching positive moral decisions.

We really like our new cardiologist.
We had a serendipity when our good friends,
Ross and Karen Taylor came to see us.
I didn't get a photo of them.

Julie brought this to Jackson from California.
Gary came tonight and we watched the first
half of "Funny Girl."

Marci came from home health to help Walt.
Walt had an appointment with our primary care
physician, Dr. Michelle Sorweid.
 She is a
Geriatric Internist. We like her a lot.
 We then drove to I D A H O.
I loved being able to go the our
Serendipity Book Club with Marilyn.
I was not a charter member when they
started the Book Club in 1968 because
I was President of the "New Comer's Club"
for Burley and felt I didn't have time for this
additional activity. But I did join the next
year. So I've been a member for 49 years.
I guess if we count this year,
 it would be 50 years.

This is a funny clip art of book club
members in their old age.
Of course, we would be
drinking hot chocolate.

 Reuben sandwiches...
Rye bread, corned beef, sour kraut, Swiss cheese,
mayo and mustard...for lunch.
And I added potato chips into mine.
Delecious!
We got to visit with our neighbors of 47 years--
Tom and Irene Blayney, and their darling daughter,
Mary Francis came while we were there.
We  got to see Hannah Llewellen...
.... and Ole and Diane Woodhouse.
We also got to visit with
David Hansen, who is get over a bout
of pneumonia, and being hospitalized
with complications with that pneumonia,
plus other complications.
We  then stopped to see Dick and Jan
Huzinga, but they weren't home.
Then it was time to go to Stevo's for
supper, so we ran out of time to go
visit others we wanted to see.
We thought five o'clock would be early
enough to "beat the Saturday evening crowd,"
but it wasn't. We waited about 30 minutes
to be seated.
Guy Redder and his wife talked with us
while we were standing in line. They have been
called to the Hawaii Visitors' Center Mission.
They will leave in July.
This will also include being guides for the
buses going to the Polynesian Center.
Won't they be great missionaries!
We got to talk with President Matt Cook,
and his wife Trista as they were leaving.
He was called as the new Burley West
Stake President last November so he's
been serving for about 3 1/2 months.
His counselors are President John Kloepfer,
and President Mark Fillmore.
Trista said: "I'm no Eileen Petersen or Susan Young."
I said: "No, you're Trista, and you will be wonderful!"
We were taking Dave and Marilyn to dinner.
Just as we finished, our waitress came and
told us that someone had paid for our
four dinners!  What a surprise.
There are such good people in this world!
We thank the kind and generous person
who did this for us.
While the Gibbons went to a baptism,
President Tim Preston came to talk with
us in their home.  We have been friends
with Tim and Renae for a long time.
Renae was at a wedding reception.

Family is Everything…
We loved being in our
Burley Third Ward
this morning.
As Dave and Marilyn had
told us, there are not many of us "old timers"
left in the ward....many new families have
moved in....most of whom are young, with
young children.  Nothing stays the same.
Walt and I were so busy talking with old
friends that we didn't get any photos before
or after Church.
Inspiring talks were given by the young people:
Molly HIggins and Brody Jackson.
Molly talked about honoring mother and father.
She said: "If at first you don't succeed,
do it the way your mother told
you to in the first place."
Brody's topic was "agency
and accountability." He said we are free
to choose what to do, but we are not free
to choose the consequences of what
we choose to do.
Bishop Gerratt asked his counselor, Brother Jackson,
to share his testimony. He focused on the
love Heavenly Father has for us always.
A new high councilor, Mike Tribe gave the
talk with the subject chosen by the Stake President:
"The Tenth Article of Faith"
"We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and
in the restoration of the Ten Tribes;
that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be
built upon the American continent;
that Christ will reign personally
upon the earth; and, that the earth
will be renewed and receive its
paradisiacal glory."
He shared how the tribes were scattered,
then gave four ways he and his family
are helping with the gathering, which
we may also want to do:
1. Reading the Book of Mormon
2. Local missionary work
3. Full-time missionary work
4. Help gather Israel on the other side of the veil

Marilyn cooked a wonderful Sunday dinner:
Pork chops with homemade applesauce cooked
today from apples that they have saved in their
garage from their apple tree's harvest last Fall.
She made an extra side dish of the funeral
potatoes she took for the funeral luncheon yesterday.
Dave said: "Today they are called
'company potatoes.' "
We also had yummy cooked fresh green beans.
We headed back to Utah before the
forecast storms come in tonight.
We cannot thank Dave and Marilyn enough
for how well they took care of us
while we stayed in their home from
Thursday evening to this Sunday afternoon.
They helped us so much in our infirm conditions.
We  lived in this home for the first five years we
were in Burley, then we sold it to the Gibbons
in 1971 when we moved four houses south
on the same street.
We did get to stop and visit with Dan Black,
who lives two houses north of the Gibbons.
We pulled over and got a photo of
the "Welcome to Utah" sign.
We crossed the Idaho-Utah border
right at four o'clock.
We had "Sundae Sunday" at David and Julie's
home. They measured these two cousins and
16-year-old Jacee may be a smidgen taller
than 18-year-old Anna.
We had delicious homemade chocolate cake,
with ice cream.
We Gary brought the new "carrot-cake" Oreos
for everyone to try.  Pretty good.
We  have a great time being together.
Julie brought 3 of the 70 boxes of
family photos for them to sort.
The four siblings take the photos with
them, and also sort for the other three siblings.
A lot of reminiscing goes on.
...plus a lot of laughing and saying:
"Oh, look at this one!!"
...remember when this happened?
Steve and Natalie get up so early
that they left a little bit before the others...
and they're exhausted from packing,
painting, and moving to a new home
this week.
Carter got accepted to Dixie and SSU,
and is choosing Dixie, with a deferment
for his scholarship there untill he
returns from his mission.

Carter made a face in the photo above,
so I tried to get another one without
counting, but it turned out blurry.
I  got a photo of Anna with her boyfriend,
Riley.  Anna just received her acceptance
to BYU and is very excited! We all sang
"Rise and shout the Cougars are out..."
when she and Riley came in.

At the end of this February 24th,
we pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...

We share these truths as our testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when our time on earth is over.

Jesus Christ was chosen in the Council in Heaven to be our Savior. He came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.

The Bible is the Word of God and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.

Of these truths we testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
