Family is Everything…
---Happy 19th Wedding Anniversary
to Jen and Jerry...
We hope you are having a
great Anniversary today~!
"Anniversary Song"

Oh, how we danced on the night we were wed
We vowed our true love though a word wasn't said
The world was in bloom, there were stars in the skies
Except for the few that were there in your eyes

Dear, as I held you close in my arms
Angels were singing a hymn to your charms
Two hearts gently beating, murmuring low
"Darling, I love you so"

The night seemed to fade into blossoming dawn
The sun shone anew but the dance lingered on
Could we but recall that sweet moment sublime
We'd find that our love is unaltered by time

Dear, as I held you close in my arms
Angels were singing a hymn to your charms
Two hearts gently beating, murmuring low
"Darling, I love you so"
We love you!

Maddie had her elementary
school Christmas program
this morning.
She wore her cute green elf dress and hat.
Proud Mama, Julie.
Marci from Home Health came to help Walt.
Supper with the family.

Walt enjoyed reading the
Dr. Seuss book that
Dale and Connie sent
for my birthday:
"You're Only Old Once."
 Then he exercised.

Family is Everything…
Walt's  physical therapist from home health cannot come. This makes four appointments they have missed and have not told us they were not coming.  Hmmmm....
We mailed some Christmas gifts
to Brian and Jennifer and family;
in Tennessee;
Jen and Jerry and family
in Minnesota;
Dale and Connie in Twin Falls;
and Dale Bunn in Wendell.
Then we went Christmas shopping
at University Mall in Orem
to find some See's Chocolates.
They're in their own little mini-mall
in the parking lot out front
by Costa Vida.
We had lunch in the U.Mall
food court.
 Then we drove back home
to Saratoga Springs
where we picked up
Walt's dress slacks up
at the Red Hanger Cleaners.
We also filled the car with gas
for our drive into Salt Lake City
tomorrow at the
University of Utah.
This evening Gary came and
we watched
"It's a Wonderful Life."

We have enjoyed these
Wednesday evening
Christmas movies with Gary.
This movie was released in December 1946,
starring James Stewart, Donna Reed,
and Lionel Barrymore.
It is truly a Christmas Classic.
It is a wonderful life,
isn't it.
Maybe not as wonderful
when you get old.

Family is Everything…
Marci from home health came early
so we could head to the UofU
Neurology Center.
Walt had an appointment at the
University of Utah Cognitive Center
with Dr. Norman Foster
at 11:00 a.m.
A resident talked with
him after a gal repeated
the Cognative follow-up test.
Then Dr. Foster came in.
Dr. Foster is the head of the
Neurology Clinic.
He graduated from the same school
where Walt received his M.D. degree:
Washington University School of Medicine
in St. Louis, Missouri.
It is a private medical school
named after George Washington.
Our son, David, also received his
M.D. degree from this Medical School.
I liked the reindeer under their
Christmas garlands.
Gary rendezvoused with us there
for Walt's appointment.
We were almost late because I got
"pulled off into the wrong lane"
at the junction of Foothill Drive
and 80th.
But I was able to back track and
get to the UofU campus just
in the nick of time.
We then went over to Janice and Jeff's
home in Midvale.
I'm blessed to have such a
wonderful sister.
I thought I was taller than she is.
She said she's 5'8".
I used to be 5' 7 1/2", but
recently measured just 5'6".
 What a serendipity that
Matt and Tyler came by
while we were there.
 They are Janice's grandsons, Scott
and Melissa's sons.
Matt served a Spanish-speaking mission
to the California Fresno Mission,
and Tyler just returned in June
from serving in the
Puerto Rico San Jose Mission.
They have both just finished finals
at BYU.  Matt has been married a
year and a half to Michaela, who
is also a student at BYU, majoring
in drama. They are both also
working.  Matt was taking Tyler
to the airport to fly home to
Austin, Texas this afternoon.
We love being with them.
They have a darling home in Midvale.
We also went to Draper to leave
the Christmas gifts for
David and Julie
their kids.
We got back to Saratoga Springs
and spent a quiet evening
watching a Netflix Christmas movie:
"Christmas in the Smokies."
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2018
Family is Everything…

At 3:23 p.m. Mountain Standard Time
today the Winter Solstice begins.
The winter solstice falls on Dec. 21, 2018, the moment at which Earth’s axis tilts the Northern Hemisphere farthest from the sun’s warmth. It happens once a year in each hemisphere. The winter solstice is particularly special this year as the upcoming December full moon, named the Cold Moon, will be visible in the night sky along with the Ursid meteor shower.

What is the winter solstice?
The winter solstice, also known as midwinter, is the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year. It occurs when the sun appears at its most southerly position. The earliest people on Earth built monuments to follow the sun’s yearly progress, for example, Stonehenge in England. At sunrise at Stonehenge on the longest day of the year, the rising sun appears behind one of the main stones, creating the illusion that the sun is balancing on the stone. Stonehenge was closed for 16 years after rioting broke out between police and revelers for several years at solstice gatherings. The site was reopened to the public on the solstice in 2000.
When is the winter solstice and how long is it?
This astronomical event officially arrives Friday at 5:23 p.m. EST. At this time of year, each day is about 24 hours, 30 seconds long. It’s because Earth is nearing its closest point to the sun in its elliptical orbit.
(Gary, thought you would like this one.)
Why winter solstice 2018 is unique:
1) December full moon
The moon will appear full both Friday and Saturday nights.
Called the "Cold Moon"
The names of the moon originate from the Native Americans, who marked December’s full moon as the beginning of the coldest part of the year. The Long Night Moon is named after the longest night of the year on the winter solstice.
2) Ursid meteor shower
The American Meteor Society says the Ursids should be visible in the mid-Northern Hemisphere. At the peak there should be about 11 sporadic meteors per hour just before dawn. The shower gets its name because its meteors appear to emanate from Ursa Minor, also known as the Little Dipper. Unfortunately, due to the aforementioned full moon, the meteors might be hard to spot.
3) Mercury/Jupiter conjunction
In the southeast before sunrise Friday, you can see Mercury and Jupiter appearing as if they’re about to collide in space, despite being hundreds of millions of miles apart. They will be 0.9 degrees apart, which is about two moon-diameters. They will only be visible in a sky illuminated by bright twilight.

At the summer solstice, around 21 June, the sun rises behind the Heel Stone and its first rays shine nto the heart of Stonehenge. Although the tallest trilithon at the monument is no longer standing, the sun would have set between the narrow gap of these uprights during the winter solstice.
But remember --
"No winter lasts forever,
No spring skips its turn"
--Hal Borland

Rigdon loved his first ski lesson.
He didn't want to quit.
Santa visited the Brighton Ski Lodge.
They all said it was a very

*******
I had an appointment at 12:00 noon the Costco Hearing Center
and was tested so that Walt's new Premier hearing aids he got in July were changed to my frequencies needed.  My 2011 hearing aids are not working and are too old to get the new receivers that are needed.  Walt never felt like his hearing aids helped and he had a hard time getting them in.
Now I don't have to ask:
"What?" when Walt
says something to me.
It's wonderful to hear again!
The door bell rang this
morning before we went
to Costco. When I answered
the door...this is all that was there.
 It said:
"To Rigdon"
"From the Secret Elves"

Steve came by and had supper with us.
He said Natalie had been in bed
since Wednesday with severe stomach pain.
He took her to the Insta-Care where the
physician said it seemed more like the
72-hour stomach that
was going around than
appendicitis, but to watch it
I didn't have my cell camera at the
table, so took a photo of him and
Dad on Steve's cell. He will send
me that photo.

This special Sacrament Meeting
Christmas Program
was very calming
and spiritually uplifting.
Maddie  and four other primary girls
sang "Mary's Lullaby."
The ward before us went over 20 minutes,
and so did our ward.
I usually get home from Church and say:
"Oh, I wanted to get a photo of us."
Today I remembered.
John took a photo of Benson's family.

 John always looks sharp!

Family Christmas photo by the tree.
Now we're by the Christmas tree.
Then we went to visit Natalie
in the hospital.
The new Mountain Point Medical Center.
It opened in 2017.
She is in room 207.

Natalie's appendix had ruptured
and abscessed. She was told if she had
not been in such good physical shape
herself, she would be in ICU right now.
Kelsey and Josh came to see her
as we were leaving.
As of now, her surgeon thinks she
will be able to be discharged
Monday (Dec. 24th) by noon.
Hospitals try to decorate for each holiday
to create cheer for the patients.
Julie invited Steve and his boys
to Sunday dinner.
We tried to get a photo of
everyone around the table.
 Kimble, Riggy, Carter...
Always a delicious Sunday dinner
at Julie and John's home...
 Jacee, Jackson, Steve...
Julie and John...
Julie had invited Gary, but he came after dinner
because he is just getting over a sore throat
and cough and didn't want to cough on
the food.
We had a great afternoon talking
with Gary while John and Julie's
family took home made fudge
to their neighbors.
It always takes me two photos
to get them to smile.
We ended the evening
watching a Christmas movie together.

Janie and Shawn sent us some
photos of this December 23...
which Anna dubbed "Christmas Adam"
because Adam came before Eve
and Christmas Eve is tomorrow.
We hope you have had a
restful and peaceful  Sabbath Day
As the sun sets on this Sunday
before Christmas,
we testify that...
Heavenly Father lives and loves each one of us
and knows us by name.
Jesus Christ, whose birth we will commemorate in two days, is our Elder Brother and the First-born Spirit Child of our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother. As He said in John 18:37 "...unto this end was I born..." He was testifying  of His foreordination to be our Savior. He is the Only Begotten Son of Heavenly Father and a mortal mother--Mary. His Atonement makes the Plan of Salvation operational.
He is the Redeemer of all people.

Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration.
He is the Restorer of all truths.

Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet for the entire world.

The Bible is a testimony of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Church on the earth today.

Of these truths we testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
