Reminder of
Sibling Book Club choice
for December...
Hi Everyone
I’ve chosen “Where the Wind Leads” for the December Book Club read. It is a compelling story of a refugee family from Vietnam. This book really moved me, and I found myself thinking about it several times a day while I was reading (listening to) it, and it has lingered in my mind in the weeks since I finished it.
The last chapter where the author summarizes his take-away from his family’s experience is especially poignant. It reminds me of David’s great mantra of “there but by the Grace of God I go” and our responsibility to give back.
Hope you enjoy it. It’s not a Christmas story, but certainly has a message of the rescue, hope, and joy that Christ gives. Janie

We're out and about again...
Marci, our CNA for home health.
We have a friendly snowman in our front yard.
We had lunch with great Burley friends today.
Mike and Vicki Martin moved from Burley in 1975 and we've only seen them a couple of times since then. They moved to Wyoming, then way out to Georgia. Now they have been back in Utah going on two years. It was so nice to touch base with them again today! We had forgotten how much we like them! I was a Young Women counselor to Vicki in our Burley 7th Ward. (Fae Stoddard--who had the most amazing vocabulary of anyone I ever knew--was the other counselor.)
Ross and Karen Taylor moved to Burley in 1968--two years after we did. They built a home that ended up just 3 houses south of us on Burton Avenue when we moved down the street in 1971. They moved from Burley to Utah in Feb 2004 and built a beautiful home in Riverton. We've kept in close contact with them over the years. We enjoyed a fun stay with them at a Bear River condo in Sept 2017--seeing where Karen grew up.

We had some delicious pulled pork, baked beans, and cole slaw at Sean's Smokehouse here in Saratoga Springs.

When we got home, Walt called our joint friend, Gerald Budge, in St. George. Karen had mentioned that Gerald has his hands full taking care of Ruth, who is having dementia problems. Gerald and Ruth moved from Burley to St. George in 1993, I think. Anyway I have written down that they built their first home there in 1993. Then they built a bigger home in 1998.

Family is Everything…
We went to the DMV - Department of Motor Vehicles today to register our car in Utah. They were so helpful and we didn't have to wait after we got our number. We were called right up to the person we needed to work with. The only thing is that we forgot to take the title to our car, so we could only get partially registered. But it was kind of them to get that much done and have the sticker to put in our window.
We looked for our title when we got back home.
There it was, right in our "Car" file.

Family is Everything…
We went to Auto Zone to see why our "Service Engine Soon" light is coming on in our car. They take their electronic device to the car and see why we need to "service engine soon." Ours showed that there is a "small emission leak." And that we're okay to drive to Tremonton and back tomorrow without having to have it fixed.
Thanks, Auto Zone, for this free service. Our friend from Burley/Rupert told us about Auto Zone doing this. He runs the Bighorn Sales in Burley and is the one who helped find this 2005 Cadillac Deville that we have. We love him and his family a lot!

the funeral of Willis Petersen,
Ray Petersen's cousin.
He and his wife had come to
visit us several times and I
remember we were at his
home in Elwood once.

OBITUARY
Willis
Clarence Petersen passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Legacy House in
Bountiful, Utah where he spent the last year with his wife Elna Despain
Petersen. Willis was born on April 13, 1927 to William Petersen and Mary
Lavon Wagstaff Petersen in Elwood, Utah. He was the first of five
children: Willis, Earl, Harold, Carol, and Reed. Willis married Virginia
Lee on Sept 18, 1953, in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints. They had five children: Christine, Larry, Kendall,
Steven, and Lisa. After Virginia passed away in 2000, Willis
married Elna on March 15, 2002, in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Willis is preceded by
his parents, his brothers Earl and Harold, his wife Virginia, and his daughter
Christine. He is survived by his wife Elna, and his children Larry
and (Becky) Petersen, Ken Petersen, Lisa Shinney, and Steve and (Sotheary)
Petersen, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Willis will
also be missed by Elna’s children and grandchildren.
After graduating from
Bear River High School, Willis joined the Navy in 1945 at age 18 and was
stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He later attended Utah State
University. Willis was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints and served for three years in the Danish Mission. He
also served missions later in life with both Virginia and Elna.
Willis was a surveyor
for the Soil Conservation Service in Tremonton for many years. He also
farmed a few acres in Elwood. After retiring from the Soil Conservation
Service, he worked for the LDS Church and drove a school bus. He really
enjoyed the kids while he drove the bus. Willis loved his family and
doing research on family history and genealogy. He planned and guided
family history trips to Denmark and England. He was also very involved
with scouting and received the Silver Beaver award.
A viewing will be held
on Thursday, December 6, 2018, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Rogers & Taylor
Funeral Home (111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Utah). There will be another
viewing on Friday, December 7, 2018, 9:00 – 10:30 am at the Elwood
Third Ward building (4865 W 9600 N, Elwood, Utah). Following this
viewing, the funeral will be held at 11:03 am. Interment will be at
the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery following the funeral.
The family would like to
thank Jennifer Girswold – APRN, Debbie Johnson – RN, and the staff at Legacy
House of Bountiful for the care they provided Willis and Elna during his final
months.
We then drove back to Saratoga Springs
so Gary could get to his Singles Dance
at the State Capitol that evening.
We hadn't seen Elna for a long time.

We talked with Reed and Phyllis who had

We also got to talk with Lareen, Walt's cousin.

the cemetery from the
Elwood Church.

It was our Relief Society Christmas Breakfast this morning at
the home of Julia Wimath.

We had a serendipity this evening when Steve and Natalie
invited us on a double date with them to go see
"The Grinch" new movie.
The only seats left were in the handicap area, which
is about the 4th row from the front.
We liked this new movie a lot!
They told us how romantic they are.

on Nov. 30th, they got a new washer and dryer.

We said to the kids when we came out of Church today,

David said it's been at their home for

We love Kimble's new hair cut.

We had good food and a good time!

Stephen's Gourmet Chocolate Malt.
Then we played the Christmas game.
Everyone writes down 3 things about
Christmas. We number off by 1s and 2s.
First round each person pulls as many of
the slips of paper out and describes what
it says, trying to get his/her team to guess it.
The time must have been 30 seconds.I think Jacee got six once, and maybe Natalie
got seven or eight.
The next round you can just use one word
to describe what's on the slip of paper.
The third round you use no words,
just act it out.
It is a very fun game.

Following is the 2018 First Presidency Christmas message, released Dec. 6 and signed by President Russell M. Nelson, President Dallin H. Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring:
Our Savior, Jesus Christ, offers to us four incomparable gifts — the capacity to love others, the ability to forgive, the blessing of repentance and the promise of life everlasting. These four unique gifts will bring us more and more joy as we accept and act upon them. They were made possible because Jehovah condescended to come to earth as the baby Jesus. He was born of an immortal Father and a mortal mother. He was born in Bethlehem under the most humble of circumstances. His was the holy birth foreseen by prophets since the days of Adam. Jesus Christ is God’s transcendent gift — the gift of the Father to all of His children. (SeeJohn 3:16.) We joyfully celebrate His birth this Christmas season.
