Don Quixote  by Miguel Cervantes

Published in 1604

Alonso Quixana is an older gentleman who lives in La Mancha, in the Spanish countryside. He has read many of the books of chivalry and as a result, he has lost his wits, and he decides to roam the country as a knight-errant named Don Quixote de La Mancha.

Attacking imaginary enemies.
What's the origin of the phrase 'Tilting at windmills'?
Tilting is jousting. The expression 'tilting at windmills' derives from Cervantes' Don Quixote - first published in 1604, under the title The Ingenious Knight of La Mancha. The novel recounts the exploits of would-be knight 'Don Quixote' and his loyal

servant Sancho Panza who propose to fight injustice through chivalry. It is considered one of the major literary masterpieces and remains a best seller in numerous translations. In the book, which also gives us the adjective quixotic (striving for visionary ideals), the eponymous hero imagines himself to be fighting giants when he attacks windmills.
“Just then they came in sight of thirty or forty windmills that rise from that plain. And no sooner did Don Quixote see them that he said to his squire, ‘Fortune is guiding our affairs better than we ourselves could have wished. Do you see over yonder, friend Sancho, thirty or forty hulking giants? I intend to do battle with them and slay them. With their spoils we shall begin to be rich for this is a righteous war and the removal of so foul a brood from off the face of the earth is a service God will bless.’
" ‘What giants?’ asked Sancho Panza.
" ‘Those you see over there,’ replied his master, ‘with their long arms. Some of them have arms well nigh two leagues in length.’
" ‘Take care, sir,’ cried Sancho. ‘Those over there are not giants but windmills. Those things that seem to be their arms are sails which, when they are whirled around by the wind, turn the millstone.’ ’’
The figurative reference to tilting at windmills came a little later. John Cleveland published The character of a London diurnall in 1644 (a diurnall was, as you might expect, part-way between a diary or journal):
"The Quixotes of this Age fight with the Wind-mills of their own Heads.”

Walt thought it was not true to the book that the 1972 movie "Man of La Mancha cast Sophia Loren as the main girl of the book Don Quioxte who was described by Cervantes as the opposite of pretty.

188th Semi-annual
General Conference of
The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints

Church Announces Change to Sunday Meeting Schedule, Focuses on Home Gospel Study
byDanielle B. Wagner | Oct. 06, 2018
During the Saturday morning session of the 188th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Church announced changes to weekly Church meetings, including that church meetings will now be two hours instead of three.
In recent years, Church leaders have "wrestled with a fundamental question," President Russell M. Nelson said. They have been trying to focus on the"simple purity" of the gospel and implement policies with "eternal efficacy to all of God's children," he said
“As Latter-day Saints, we have become accustomed to thinking of ‘church’ as something that happens in our meetinghouses, supported by what happens at home,” President Nelson said. “We need an adjustment to this pattern. It is time for home-centered church, supported by what takes place inside our branch, ward, and stake buildings.” Because of this, the Church decided to make changes to "organizational structures that will fortify our members and their families."
Elder Cook announced we will have a 60-minute sacrament meeting followed by a 50-minute class that will alternate each week. Church members will meet in Sunday School classes on the first and third weeks of the month; meet as Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Men, and Young Women on the second and fourth weeks; and fifth weeks will be under the direction of the bishop. Primary will be divided each week between singing time and class time.
"Our purpose is to balance the church and home experience to increase faith," Elder Cook said.
"This new shift will help our members focus on deepening conversion to God and Jesus Christ, strengthening families and individuals through home study, staying focused on the sacrament, and helping those on both sides of the veil through missionary work and temple work," Elder Cook added. This will also leave more time for home and family evenings any time of the week.
The new home manual will be available in December and these changes will be implemented in January 2019.
A new curriculum resource to be used by children, youth, and adults beginning January 2019, Come, Follow Me—For Individuals and Families, is available in print, at comefollowme.lds.org, and in the Gospel Library app in 47 languages.

We watched the Women's Session of
General Conference...
Janie, Aimee, Katie, Ashley, and me.
So we had 3 generations: Grandmother, Mother, and three daughters.
What great counsel we received.
And as our Prophet, Russell M. Nelson, invited us to do, we will have a "fast" from social media for ten days.

The Church of Jesus Christ

This is always a time of renewal and strengthening of our testimonies.
I will write about General Conference tomorrow.

...because
Between the sessions of General Conference
we went to the blessing

Gathering up...
All too soon it was time to
say "Goodbye."
We went back to Fisher's home
to watch the last session of Conference.

Janie and Shawn prepared a
wonderful Sunday dinner--
ham, funeral potatoes, corn,
cheesy califower, hot homemade
rolls, and juice.
We called it their
family anniversary dinner.
Janie "kidnapped" Shawn for
a surprise Wedding Anniversary
Get-a-way.
Great Tomorrow --
 will be 32 years
since they married in the
Salt Lake Temple on
October 8, 1986.
And they're off...
The three sisters cleaned
the kitchen...
Then, Heidi, Jordan, Aimee,
and Michael resumed putting a
Disney puzzle of Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs together.

At the end of this General Conference
Sabbath Day, we share these
seven truths:

Heavenly Father lives and loves each one of us.
He has sent prophets down through the years of this earth's existence to guide us back to Him and Heavenly Mother.

Jesus Christ is our Redeemer and Savior through His great Atonement for us.  We are helping prepare for His Glorious Second Coming.

Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration of all truths needed on the earth for this Glorious Second Coming of the Savior.

The Bible testifies of the Divinity of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon in Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today.  He is the Prophet for the entire world.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true Church on the earth today.

Of these truths we testify, in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
