Traces of Time . . .

THIS WEEK - JULY 16-JULY 22, 2018

MONDAY, JULY 16, 2018

Walt watered the daisies extra in hopes they wouldn't die so quickly.  Seems like they barely bloomed.

Family Home Evening at Ken and Bonnie Fronk's home.

Walt had physical therapy in the pool...

The July night Relief Society was held outside on the north lawn.
It was shady and cool.

Ashley Ludlow discussed the 90-day "Read-the-Book-of-Mormon Challenge."
The gals who are not able to come miss out on a lot of wonderful bonding and being together.
There were only 11 able to come tonight.
We three on the left: Eileen, Ruth, and Marilyn are of the older generation..
Kathleen is the next generation down

WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 2018

Walt's new hearing aids come in to Costco and Sonja Parish was able to fit them and teach him how to put them in and other instructions.  Sonja grew up in Burley and has been doing this for 25 years.  She is outstanding as the head of the Hearing Department at the Twin Falls Costco!    Thanks, Sonie

We rendezvoused with Dale and Connie for the three o'clock session at the Twin Falls Temple.
It's always a great time to be together.
We had dinner at Norm's diner after.

THURSDAY, JULY 19, 2018

This morning Walt went to see the podiatrist who checks our feet every 9 weeks.

Then Gary and Ammie took us to our Open House in Centennial Park downtown Burley hosted by Steve and Sherry Ormond, and Darrell and MaryAnn Roskelley.

Darrell Roskelley took a photo of each person who came to bid us farewell.
Our dear friend and neighbor, Ruth Melling was the first one to come.

FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2018

We took Aimee to our favorite place for breakfast: CHARLIE'S CAFé

Got a photo of the old cronies discussing
how to save the world.

Then we were off to our...

WENDELL HIGH SCHOOL - ALL ALUMNI REUNION
at the Wendell High School in Wendell

Vivian Dille Stanger Bray - Class of 1943 , age 93,
plays Beer Barrel Polka on the accordian.

 We remember Vivian
playing the accordian many times
in Wendell when we were growing up.

This Steve Smith family band called "Magic Smoke" played many fun, old songs for the sing-a-long like: "Trojan Fight Song, Beer Barrel Polka, Here We Have Idaho, School Days, Springtime in the Rockies, Don't Fence Me In, You Are My Sunshine, Young at Heart, Mr. Sandman, Dear Hearts and Gentle People."

Walt visits with one more classmate--Ben Brevick--as we
are ready to leave.

SATURDAY, JULY 21, 2018

Then at the second day of the all-school Wendell High School Reunion today was a picnic lunch and just talking with our classmates from all the years...

We thought just these three were at the reunion from Walt's Class of 1952...

Walt, Rulon and Carolyn Nelson Chandler...

Then Betty came late from Boise...

So Walt got to talk with her for a few minutes.

Here are the three who came from my Aunt Eleanor's
Class of 1948...

Violet Petersen Benson, Eleanor Huffaker Harmon,
and Wanda ?Higgs (not sure of her last name).

It's always great to be with Eleanor.

 Eleanor's classmate, Violet Petersen Benson,
dated my Uncle Don Huffaker in high school.
Her younger sister, Marie, was in my Class of 1957.

We had 10 from my Class of 1957
and we didn't get a photo.
The ten we counted are:
Dale Petersen, Dale Miles, Doug Marble, Norm Kessler,
Lynn Casperson, Beverly Barrus Christofferson, Lucile Hunsaker Campbell, Merolyn Bailey Jones, Donna Wellard,
and Eileen Albertson Petersen.

It was a great reunion and we thank the committee who
put it all together again.  Monte Peterson, Gary and Joyce Stephenson Cox, Glen Spencer, Ron and Donita Lancaster,
Merolyn Bailey Jones, Ilene Coleman....and I don't know the names of the others.

Monte and the other committe members who have worked on the planning of these reunions for so many years are retiring.
Monte told us it started in 1983--35 years ago.

Dick and Joanne Sprenger Stickle started it, and
Walt and I were on the committee for a few years.

Dick, Class of 1953, passed away in July 2011.
Joanne has just moved to California to be with a son.

WE THANK ALL WHO HAVE HELPED THIS CONTINUE
OVER THE YEARS.

Now a new generation has stepped up.
Sue Anderson, Class of 1972, is
the Reunion Chair for the 2021 Reunion.

When we got back to Burley, Janie and Shawn, were still working in the basement to help get our things sorted and packed.  They had gotten to Burley just before 12:00 noon as we were pulling out.

Shawn had found this  diploma for my Dad.

It has Arnold G. Albertson graduate of Hagerman High School, May 1933.  So he was 20 years old.  His Dad had kept him out of school a lot for the spring planting and the fall harvesting when he was growing up, so he was way behind the other kids his age.  We are proud of him for sticking to it so he could graduate!

This clears up a mystery for my sister and me. A few months ago when I was doing family history, in looking at a census Arnold had put "11 years" for the column of "how much schooling have you had." It must have been when he was age 19.  So I thought that maybe he had not graduated from high school, but now we know he did!

Gary and Ammie got back from being with her parents, Curtis and Annette Pope, for the afternoon.

So we took a photo.

Then we all went to the Dairy Queen for a
quick supper before Janie and Shawn heade
back to Rexburg.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Farewell in the Spanish Branch for Dr. Mark and Nikki Dowdle going to serve as Medical Advisor and Assistant in the South America Northwest Area -- Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, and Venzuela.  They enter the MTC in August.

Gilbert Crane, Mark, and Allen Gerratt talk together after the Spanish Branch Sacrament Meeting.

Walt and Mark share a light-hearted moment.

Then they talk about how medical advisors help missionaries stay healthy in South America.  Mark told Walt that he has paved the way for medical advisors by all that he did during his serving as a medical advisor in the Central America Area 2005-2007, then in the South America South Area in 2008 to 2010.

At the end of this Sabbath Day...

We share out testimony that...

Heavenly Father lives and loves each one of us.  He and Heavenly Mother want us to return to be back with them in Heaven when our life on this Earth is over.

Jesus Christ loves us and will return in Glory at His Second Coming!  He redeems all.

Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration.  He restored all.

The Bible is a testament of the Divine Life of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true Church on the Earth today.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Prophet for the entire World.

Of these truths we testify.  In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Walt and Eileen Petersen - Burley, Idaho, U.S.A.
