Traces of Time . . . June 11-17, 2018

Traces of Time . . .
THIS WEEK - JUNE 11-17, 2018

YES, IT'S SPRING...
BUT SUMMER IS A COMIN'
next week !

MONDAY, JUNE 11, 2018

This afternoon Walt had physical therapy in the pool.
He feels like it is helping a little to strengthen his legs,
but he knows they will never be back to full strength.

Gary McCall, our friend and real estate agent, came with his
partner Sharon Couch Hobbs, and went over some details
about selling the house.

For our Family Home Evening together we went over our week's
schedule in detail and the months happenings at a glance.  Then
weread a chapter from the Book of Mormon.   For the treat we
had a Magnum ice cream bar.

TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 2018

This afternoon LaRae and I went visiting teaching--rather
"ministering" to our gals.  We visited Debbie, Teresa was
not home, even though she had gotten off work at 2:00.

Our other two gals are out of town--Cindy for the week
at West Yellowstone, and Karen is at their summer home
in Cascade for three months.

I baked chocolate chip cookies for them.

When I got home I dashed to Stokes to get some groceries
...mainly to get pork spare ribs to put on for supper for
Janie, Gary, and Julie who are coming to finish sorting
out the new basement.*

(*The owners of this home in 1968 did not want any basement.
Kent Lyons, the master builder for them talked them into
having a basement under the living room on the southwest
side of the home.   They were transferred from Boise Cascade
three years later to Boise, and we bought the home in May 1971.
Seven years later, in 1978, we built on a storage room and
carpenter workshop for Walt on the northside and had a
basement under that part.)

Janie got here from Rexburg just as I got back from the store
at 4:45.  Julie, Maddie, and Rigdon pulled up at 5:20, as did
Gary and Isaac, who had caravaned with them.

Isaac and Maddie immediately set out hunting for treasures
among our knick knacks and other items we have collected
over our 57 years of marriage--52 of those years in Burley,
and 47 of those years in this very home.

In a couple of hours we did have a dinner of bar-b-que spare
ribs, baked potatoes, etc.
We enjoyed talking till almost midnight when we all collapsed
into bed.

wednesDAY, JUNE 13, 2018

The plan for today was to have breakfast at Charlie's, then Janie,
Gary, and Julie would sort through the new basement, then they
would head home late afternoon or stay over and head out Thursday
morning.

However, Julie was woken up at 4:00 a.m. in extreme pain.  When
Janie got up and heard Julie's symptoms--intense pain coming from
the lower back around to the front, and nausea, she knew that Julie
had a kidney stone.

Even before we were up, Janie drove Julie to the Emergency Room.
By the time we got there about 9:00, they were just taking Julie
to have a CT scan.

I rendezvoused with Gary and the kids at Charlie's for breakfast.
When we all got back to the E.R., the diagnosis from Dr. Lenny
Campbell was that Julie had an 8 mm kidney stone.
He told her she needed to go to a urologist.

Julie had been on IV pain meds since arriving at the E.R.
Dr. Campbell prescribed some pain pills and she was
discharged at noon.

Walt had pool therapy at 1:00...

Gary got most all the basement sorted, and when Janie
got back with Julie's prescriptions from Walgreens Drug Store, she
helped him finish up and they took a gigantic load to D.I.

Gary McCall stopped by and talked some more about the
details of selling our home.

The final plan to get Julie back home was that Steve (our
son who lives in Saratoga Springs not far from where Julie
and John live) would drive John to Tremontonn and Glade
--John's brother who lives in Kimberly now--would pick
John up in Tremonton.

They got here at ten minutes before eight o'clock--along
with Brent and Vicki--John and Glade's parents.  John
and Julie and kids, along with their cute dog Max were
back on the road headed home at 8:45!

Gary and Isaac had headed back home to Pleasant Grove, Utah,
at six o'clock, so they would just be getting there as the Saratoga
Peterson's were leaving Burley.

It was about sundown by now...
Janie headed back at 9:00 and said as she was pulling out: "I'll
be home to Rexburg about 11:30.
And that was our Wednesday, June 13!

ThUrSDAY, JUNE 14, 2018

John took Julie to the urologist in Salt Lake this afternoon.
He had been recommended by her dear friend Cami.  Julie
does have to have surgery to get the stone out, but this urologist
only does surgery at their hospital on Wednesdays.
So Julie is suffering through an entire week on pain meds.

On Flag Days they always put the flags out for our wedding anniversary...
It's been that way ever since we were married on June 14, 1961
Walt - 20

FOR OUR 57TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TODAY WE

friDAY, JUNE 15, 2018

This morning Kathleen came to help us with family history work.
She got to a point where she came to the end of information for
one line of Walt's Swedish grandmother: Nellie Katie Olson Petersen.
So she helped me with a Mary Jane Albertson wbo had popped up
in my family search as someone to do temple ordinances for.

It turned out the Mary Jane Albertson in my direct family line was
born in 1872 for whom the work was done in 1978.  This Mary Jane
Albertson was born in 1907 and was from Cornelias Albertson,
but the daughter of a different one of his sons, than the son of Cornelias
who was my direct line.

We ran some errands...getting the tires checked at Tires West because
the console in our car keeps popping up: "Check Tire Pressure."
The fellow got all
