Traces of Time . . . October 14-20, 2024

 TRACES OF TIME . . .                           {Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.}

"Time moves slowly, but passes quickly.                               The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

"The magical, supernatural force
that is with us every second is time.
We can't even comprehend it.

 It's such an illusion,

it's such a strange thing."

— Anthony Hopkins

Note from Eileen: You will notice I call

my blog: "Traces of Time..."

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses-- Julie, John, Jennifer, Jerry--our 39 grandchildren-- 9 spouses of G-C, and 7 great-grandchildren, with one on the way in December--which will bring our posterity to 70.

Family is Everything….

                         Sunrise: 7:38 a.m.
    Sunset:  6:48 p.m.
Sunrise
General Conference...remembrance
Ran errands with Julie...
Fun to see...
...new buildings rising up
everywhere.
Paige did a Cutco Knife
presentation for
Julie, Camie, and me.
Then I went to the dentist
for the semi-annual
hygentist cleaning,
x-rays, and check.
Kathie, my ministering
sister, drove me.
That's her BYU blue car
parked outside.
Forgot the hygienist's name.
Maybe it was Ginny.
Kristi is the fun gal
at the front desk.
I try not to act surprised
at the $317.00 bill.
That did include a $54 waterpik...
but still shocked me.
All out of pocket.

Well, back in the day
(1960s, 1970s...) people
complained about Walt's
$5 charge for an
office visit for
the doctor.
Thanks, Kathie, for driving
me since Julie had to
be in Provo to teach
Jacee's dance class.
Then Jayden came for
my home health
physical therapy.

Family is Everything…
* Lunch Bunch was at Strap Tank
at Traverse Mountain

Sharon explained to us
that the
"Strap" held the...
 ...gas "tank" on the
motorcycle.
 They describe their decor
as "fairground."
Lots to choose from...
...on their menu.
Prices have gone up a lot!
Sharon, Kaye, Mark...
Decisions...
what to order?
I usually just get water,
but Kathie told me they
make the best root beer.
She was right!
Annette, Linda, Eileen
(Used to put Linda H, but
our Linda B moved to
St. George--miss you
Linda B--so now Linda H
will be our only Linda.)
Jeanie, Kathie
Mark, Sue, MaryAnn.
They are MaryAnn's cousins...
...visiting her from
North Minnesota.
Mark had a lot of
stories to tell.
Tried to get the
"dreadlocks..."
Ten were able to come...
Lower middle: MaryAnn,
Jennie, Kathie, Annette,
Linda, Eileen, Sharon,
Kaye, Mark and Sue.
When I enlarge the photo,
you can see some better,
but others don't show.
Four of us got
Fish 'n Chips,
two got Prime Rib Dip,
one Salmon and Steak Tacos,
one Chicken Fried Chicken,
and one hot ham 'n cheese
sandwich.
And one didn't get anything
because her cousin had
taken her to breakfast
at Denny's and she
was too full to eat lunch.
Jennie  always has to
leave before we get the
photo outside in the
sunshine, so I try to
get a photo of her
before that.
Only four of us got to
have the photo outside.
Thanks, Kathie, for
driving us today.
Storm clouds rolling in...
Took some crème brûlée
home. Best dessert ever!

It's fun to watch for
Riggy to come home
from school...

From the time
Riggy's bike...
hits the front lawn...
--home from school--
...to the front door...
is a split second...

I am thankful for our Savior,
Jesus Christ, every day.
Just saw this on facebook:
"Because of Jesus Christ, we will rise from the despair of death and embrace those we love, shedding tears of overwhelming joy and overflowing gratitude.

Because of Jesus Christ, we will exist as eternal beings, worlds without end.

Because of Jesus the Christ, our sins can not only be erased; they can be forgotten. We can become purified and exalted. Holy.

Because of our beloved Savior, we can forever drink from the fountain of water that springs up into eternal life. We can dwell forever in the mansions of our eternal King, in unimaginable glory and perfect happiness."

Always love having my son, Gary,
come over for Movie Night.
We are really enjoying our fall-winter theme of watching movies made from classic books.

  • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2024

  • I posted:
We're going to start watching

movies made from classical books...

by Austen, Brontë,  ShellEy, Alcott,

Dickens, lewis, Tolstoy, Hugo...

...

Here are some classic books that have been adapted into movies:
  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott in 1868
A cozy movie adaptation of the story about the March sisters' lives and ambitions. The 2019 film modernizes the language of the original story, written 150 years ago.
  • The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien - 1954
A series of three books that were adapted into award-winning movies. The series is considered by many to be one of the greatest fantasy novels ever written.
  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - 1960
A best-selling book that was adapted into a cinematic masterpiece.
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - 1813
A classic of English literature that has been adapted into motion pictures.
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - 1847
A story about a young woman who endures abuse as a child and accepts a job as governess.
  • The Godfather by Mario Puzo in 1969 - movie 1972
A highly regarded movie series that started with a book by Mario Puzo.

  • The Princess Bride by William Goldman in 1973, movie 1987
A classic romance/adventure movie based on the book by William Goldman.
  • he Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure, The "Good Parts" Version is a 1973 fantasy romance novel by American writer William Goldman. The book combines elements of comedy, adventure, fantasy, drama, romance, and fairy tale. It is metafictionally presented as an abridgment of a longer work by the fictional S. Morgenstern, and Goldman's commentary asides are constant throughout. It was originally published in the United States by Harcourt Brace, then later by Random House, while in the United Kingdom it was later published by Bloomsbury.

The book was adapted into a 1987 feature film directed by Rob Reiner, starring Robin Wright and Cary Elwes.

  • Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen - 1811
A 1995 screenplay adaptation of the Jane Austen novel, directed by Ang Lee.
  • The Chronics of Narnia by C.S.Lewis - 1950-1956
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë - 1847

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley - 1818 and 1831

                         Family is Everything…

                      Saw this on face book:

"If Price Gouging has been such an issue during these past 4 years why do we have a record number of stores and businesses closing their doors? Trying to make sense of this."

Here's what Gary answered:

Gary Petersen

This has it's roots back in the 80's when Regan starting de-regulation of big business and starting cutting corporate tax rates and upper income tax rates. The "trickle down" affect never really happened and just started growing corporate profits and more and more wealth going to the richest 1% The Pandemic hit the global economy, and recovery efforts led to inflation, and without corporate regulation, and continued decreases to corporate and upper income tax rates, big corporate profit is at record high levels, and the wealthy are richer than ever, with the biggest economic gap between the lower and middle incomes than ever in history. Trump and right-wing conservative policies continue those trends.

I pray you have had a

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
Daily Scripture: Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. - Psalm 150:6
Daily Quote: I think the Latter-day Saints have a great obligation pressing in upon them to rejoice in the Lord, to praise him for his goodness and grace, to ponder his eternal truths in their hearts, and to set their hearts on righteousness. - Bruce R. McConkie

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.

I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."
Daily Scripture: And blessed are all they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost. - 3 Nephi 12:6
Daily Quote: We have been promised the constant companionship of the third member of the Godhead and hence the privilege of receiving revelation for our own lives. - Sheri L. Dew

The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.

Daily Scripture: This life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection of the dead. - Alma 12:24
Daily Quote: I invite you to diligently learn about and appreciate the eternal importance of temple covenants, temple ordinances, and temple worship as you strive to come unto the Savior. - David A. Bednar

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.
