Traces of Time . . . September 9-15, 2024

 TRACES OF TIME . . .                           {Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.}

"Time moves slowly, but passes quickly.                               The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

"The magical, supernatural force
that is with us every second is time.
We can't even comprehend it.

 It's such an illusion,

it's such a strange thing."

— Anthony Hopkins

Note from Eileen: You will notice I call

my blog: "Traces of Time..."

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses-- Shawn, Julie, John, Jennifer, Jerry--our 39 grandchildren--10 spouses of G-C, and 7 great-grandchildren, with one on the way in December--for a posterity of 70.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2024                            Family is Everything...
...and  so are friends!

Jim & Linda,
We wish you well in
your move to St. George.
Thank you for planning this,
Clyde & Julia, Hiroko, and Heather.
 Everyone brought...
...lots of delicious snacks!
EILEEN'S COMMENT ABOUT
THE FONTS AND SPACING:
I typed this all in same font,
same size. However, this blog
composition has a mind of it's own,
and it just changes the sizes and
fonts overwhich I don't know
how to correct. Sorry.

And we heard "the rest of the story"
after the wonderful talk Hiroko
gave Sunday about her conversion
at age 16 or 17 in Japan.
I asked Bob how they met.
"When Bob was a district or zone leader
in Japan, he was so impressed with
this beautiful, talented
young single adult
who was the YW President of
the branch. "She will be a
wonderful wife for someone,"
he thought to himself.
His next thought was:  "Not
someone else--me!"
He mentioned this to no one,
but the next morning the
mission president transferred
him to an island far from
where Hiroko was.
...I didn't hear how they
reunited after his mission.
However, it's evident that
true love prevailed.
The delicious chocolate mousse cake
said: "Jim & Linda
We will miss you!"
Newlyweds, Nelson & Shirlene Spencer,
 were there.
Nelson said they are still
trying to get two homes
organized into one.
Shirlene's from Tehachapi...
and Nelson's here in Saratoga Springs, Utah.
Samantha Warner,
holding Dominic, is also moving.
However, we don't have to tell
the Warners "goodbye" because
Ben & Samantha have
bought the Bright's home.
So they with Benson, Eliza,
Anders, and Dominic will
be moving two doors
from us to around the block.
It was nice to meet
Ed Campbell  who
lives next to the Brights.
He was very personable
with everyone.
Heather Cannon, thank you
for helping host this
gathering for Jim & Linda.
Kathie & Bryant Hatch are always
interesting to talk with. They have
traveled to every state in the USA and
to many countries. They are just back
from seeing their daughter and family
in Omaha, Nebraska, who is in the same
ward as the Witham's daughter there.
Heidi Wright made her delicious
artichoke dip for everyone
that she also brought to
the shower last Saturday.
We have so many fun couples
in our neighborhood, including
Dave & Amaline South,
Bob & Hiroko Turner.
We thank David, again, for his
service in the Bishopric since
May 2, 2021...3 years 4 1/2 months.
He was released yesterday,
and Curtis Allen was called
as the new 1st counselor.
  Linda was happy to greet...
Len Novilla and her son NK.
Linda has helped be with
Len's elderly mother,
Julie, many times.
Jim is a great golfer and
he's not going to miss
the snow when they move
in October to St. George.
This is such a fun time
to talk to each other...
Carol Richardson.
Linda Hartley,
Eileen Petersen,
SuzAnne Ramage, and
LeAnn Hunt also see each
other on Wednesdays
at lunch bunch.
The Bright's granddaughter,
Sarah Allred,
from Toquerville, near St. George,
on the right, is here to help them
with final packing up.
Thank you again,
Clyde & Julia, for
welcoming us all into
your beautiful home to
share our love with
the Brights.
The Withams will soon
get to see their
Omaha children and
grandchildren.
Jim & Linda Bright,
"We won't cry when it's over.
We'll smile because it happened..."
that we were neighbors for 8 years.
I asked Linda to send me
the different places they have lived.
She sent this fun and interesting synopsis:
"Thank you for journaling our lives!
Here's a brief outline. Use or don't use whatever you want.
I'll start at the beginning and move through.

Jim was born in Los Angeles, CA and lived in the Los Angeles area while growing up. He got his degree at LA City College. Joined the army. Came home and went to work for an underwriter in insurance and then thought about a career in carpentry, like his father. A short time later, he joined the ranks of LAPD and
retired as Detective III in homicide.
I grew up in Burbank, CA. Went to BYU briefly, and back to CA to work. I had my first apartment in Temple City and then Rosemead.
We met at T&J Restaurant in Rosemead, CA
where I was working.
We got married in Studio City, CA October 19, 1974

First married -- lived Oct 1974 Baldwin Park, CA
1976 Shortly after we moved to Canyon Country, CA
1978 Burbank, CA
1981 Newhall, CA (later called Santa Clarita, CA)
We lived here until Jim retired from the LAPD. We built a home in American Fork, UT and arrived in Utah December 1994.
We were in AF 9 years. We lived there until our home was built in Eagle Mountain, UT and stayed there 13 years. Then over to Saratoga Springs for 8 years. I hope we'll have many years ahead of us in St George!

We have 7 children.
1976 Andrea
1978 James
1981 Cindy
1983 Lisa
1986 Matthew
1992 Nancy
1994 Kevin

I had fun rewatching a video presentation we received for our 40th anniversary.
I'll try to attach it so you can watch. Have your sound on.
Now we're 50 years this October!!!
Thx Eileen!
Love, Linda"

Family is Everything…
Today
September 10, 2001...

On this day... 23 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

on Walt's grave.

It's been 3 years and

1 month since...

Walt graduated to heaven.

Gary took a photo of...

Phyllis and Dale's headstone.

Thanks, Gary.

Those two pine trees right

behind Gary are 2 of the

4 my Dad planted in

Oct 1979 when my

cousin Lucy was

buried in that

corner of the cemetery.

I sure appreciate Gary

making this trip possible.

We went by McGinnis Park

which is by the swimming pool.

Walt's sister,

Phyllis, was the major force in

getting both of these facilities

in Wendell.

Love my home town

of Wendell.

Love the Mayor

Rebecca Bunn Vipperman

** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this September 15th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.  He loves us just as we are at this very moment.
Daily Scripture: Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. - Psalm 150:6
Daily Quote: I think the Latter-day Saints have a great obligation pressing in upon them to rejoice in the Lord, to praise him for his goodness and grace, to ponder his eternal truths in their hearts, and to set their hearts on righteousness. - Bruce R. McConkie

*** *** ***

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***

*** *** ***
I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."
Daily Scripture: And blessed are all they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost. - 3 Nephi 12:6
Daily Quote: We have been promised the constant companionship of the third member of the Godhead and hence the privilege of receiving revelation for our own lives. - Sheri L. Dew
***  *** *** *** ***

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***

The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
Daily Scripture: This life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection of the dead. - Alma 12:24
Daily Quote: I invite you to diligently learn about and appreciate the eternal importance of temple covenants, temple ordinances, and temple worship as you strive to come unto the Savior. - David A. Bednar

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
