Traces of Time . . . July 10-16, 2023

 TRACES OF TIME . . .

"Time moves slowly, but passes quickly."
“The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

{Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.} On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and posterity to come.

                    Family is Everything…

  Sunrise: 6:05 a.m.

Sunset: 9:00 p.m.

Here's a good reminder

to start Monday...

The Prophet Joseph Smith declared, “After all that has been

said, the greatest and most important duty

is to preach the Gospel.”

Honoring our covenants as members of the kingdom of God

includes sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sharing the gospel

is one of the highest expressions of loving our neighbor as

 ourselves (see Mathew 22:37–39).

Sharing the gospel is the Savior’s great commission.

Those of us who have helped bring souls to Christ have tasted

the eternal joy promised to those who labor to save God’s

children (see Doctrine and Covenants 18:15–16).

Dr. Harris checked my scalp,

It had felt tender a few

It was ok, but he froze a

Will is busy and happy with

Steve took me to eat

at In 'n Out

and to

the movie "Elemental"

It had lessons on so many

levels: prejudice, judging people,

speaking up for your dreams,

loving family, supporting family,

being true to your self,

second chances...

We liked it a lot.

Indiana Jones cost

$294 million -- give or take --

On July 4th,

at Traverse Mountain

Sharon, SuzAnne, Shauna

Faye, Jeanie, Kathie, Eileen

We had 7. Clockwise lower left:

Faye, Jennie, Kathie, Eileen,

Sharon, SuzAnne, Shauna.

Shauna wrote a cute poem about

the two white-haired flirty guys

who were sitting at a table next

to us, one of whom took these

group photos.

If we had just taken a photo from

the other direction we would

have gotten a photo of the two

friendly guys sitting in the table

next to where Faye and Shauna

are.

Here's Shauna's poem about the

incident:

Now, l could make a story, for a laugh....

2 guys walked into R&R.

They spied a table just past the "bar."

There they sat

Next to 7 beauties enjoying a chat!

They couldn't resist all our fun

And began to talk to everyone!

A chit here,

A chat there,

Then one guy took our picture or two!

We thanked them, bid them farewell and said adieu!

Adieu! Adieu!   Goodnight ladies!!

Outside a cute gal took a photo

of us all by the R&R pig.

Nobody was high on the hog.

LeAnn, remember that day there

when you crawled under the table,

you also tried to climb upon the

pig for the group photo, but it

was too high.

We do have great memories of

our fun times together!

 Faye has a beautiful

home and yard

on the north side of

Neptune Park.

Prayers for Faye for

her back surgery

on June 7.

Julie's post about her friendship with 7 friends from Burley High School Class of 1989.

Blueberries Unite happened by the skin of our teeth this year. All 8 of us were only together for a few hours (and we forgot to get a pic!) It was as fun and exhausting as ever. John said it best-you all get together and it’s like you’re 16 again. So true! Favorite part? A bunch of 50 something’s surfing and tubing behind the boat. One for the books!

President J. Dayne Petersen
of the Saratoga Springs Utah Stake, presided today.     John Peterson, second counselor, in the Bishopric conducted.

Organist - Emily Slade
Chorister - Brittany Andam

The opening hymn was "As Zion's Youth in Latter Days"
Invocation - Julie Petersen

Ward Business:
Paul & Dottie Thayne released as Primary teachers
Ryan Richardson, Paul Richardson called as Primary teachers

Stake Business: President Dayne Petersen asked for Bill Miller to be sustained as a High Priest.
He then released the following:
John Brent Peterson as second counselor in the Bishopric.
Bill Miller as the Executive Secretary.
Ben Warner as the Ward Clerk.
Jason Johnson as an Assistant Ward Clerk.
Westin Smith as an Assistant Ward Clerk.

President Dayne Petersen then asked for the following to be sustained:
Bill Miller as the second counselor.
Jason Johnson as the Executive Secretary.
John Peterson as the Ward Clerk.

President then asked those who had been released and called to share their testimonies:

Ben Warner - Their 4th child, 3rd son, was born two days ago
on Friday, July 14. Samantha is doing well. [They now have
Benson, 8; Eliza, 6; Anders 3, and baby Dominic.]
Serving with this Bishopric I've seen how much they care
about the ward. In ward council there has been great
concern to help those in need.  This is the Lord's Church.
The Book of Mormon is true. Jesus lives. In the name of
       Jesus Christ, amen.

Jason Johnson - I'm grateful for the Savior who makes us feel
accepted when we don't accept ourselves. I'm thankful for
my family. The Church is led by a Prophet.

Bill Miller - I'm grateful to have inspired leaders here to serve
with. I'm grateful for the power of the priesthood...

John Peterson - Brothers and Sisters, it's a wonderful and a sad
day for me. My testimony has grown by leaps and bounds by
seeing your dedication in serving the Lord, and by listening
to you.  One of my favorite times has been setting people
apart for callings - I felt the power of the priesthood through
the Savior and Heavenly Father...I never felt closer to Them.
The Atonement is real in my life. ...allowed me to have a
better relationship with my wife and family. I feel strongly
      about the priesthood...
I share my testimony of the Savior. One thing I've learned is
of the true service of the Savior that is in all of you. The                Savior would have us help our fellowmen.

Andrew Miller - FSY [For the Strength of Youth at BYU] was a
great experience for me and my friend. After the first day, my
friend wanted to tell me something about the spirit as we
were about asleep that night.  He said he didn't have a
testimony before but after this one day of classes he had felt
      the Spirit.
Like laying down rocks -he hit his fist on the pulpit and said
very loudly "BOOM the Spirit hits you."
One of the counselors read us a scripture about how to get a
better testimony is to read scriptures every day. When I was
home after that and went to bed, I remembered I hadn't read
my scriptures that day. I felt too tired to get back up to do it,
but I couldn't go to sleep, so I got up and read my
scriptures.  --another fist pound on the pulpit and another
very loud "BOOM the Spirit hit me."
Heavenly Father lives. Jesus Christ is our Redeemer. This
        Church is true.

Emily Slade on piano, Lisa Miller on flute as a duet, played a medley of "Because I Have Been Given Much" and "Lord I Would Follow Thee."

Paul Skousen, the closing speaker at 9:45, said he would have to speak like an accordian in what to leave out of his talk. He quoted Ezra Taft Benson about a philanthropist who said that when it comes to people stepping up to help lead in service projects, world-wide it is only 3% of the population who will do so...
We remember...pioneers, golden thread to ground us...
Revolutionay War led us to freedom...
Moses led the slaves out of Egypt...
                       Constitution might seem old-fashioned...
Book of Mormon might seem old-fashioned if we don't stay connected.
Cesar Romney...rode 80 miles in dark on a horse from Delaware to Pennsylvania to get to Constitution Hall in time to have the Delaware delegation vote "Aye" for the Declaration of Independence, which turned the tide for Virginia, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania to vote "Aye," with New York joining in the affirmative to make all 13 Colonies in agreement by July 4, 1776.
These Founding Fathers were the 3% who paved the way for the Gospel to be restored in a free country.
Joseph Smith just wanted to know which Church was true...he fulfilled his foreordination beautifully to usher in the Restoration...[of the Fulness of Times for this Last Dispensation].
   Doctrine & Covenants 101:35
We can be spared from darkness today. There is nothing more precious than my quad--the Standard Works [Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price] with its eternal principles. It is the Iron Rod to hold on to that leads us to the fruit.
I have read it from cover to cover three times in the last 3 years.  If you read 8 pages a day, it can all be read in one year. My testimony has grown by leaps and bounds. It is my Iron Rod.
Let us be valiant.  ...our leaders.
We can have prosperity and joy even though we are
surrounded by slut.  In the end we win!
   This is the true Church.
We celebrate July 4th and 24th, Christmas and Easter...
May we be part of the 3%.
10:01 a.m.

Brother Skousen said he would get me a copy of his talk.
{I'll see how close I came.}

Closing Hymn - "I Need Thee Every Hour"
Benediction -  Nelson Spencer.

This is the last Sunday John will be sitting there in the Bishopric.
Bill Miller, on the far right, will be in his place.
