Family is Everything…
Had follow-up check at
Pro-vas at River Woods -
Provo this afternoon. John
reviewed some options for
my venous insufficiency in
my legs. Megan was the aid.
Thanks, Julie for driving me.
The caramel-marshmellow
sundae reminded me of our
treat after high school...
but then it was just
15 cents for two scoops
of ice cream at the drug
store soda fountain.
The sky was cloudy,
but sun was shining...
When I opened face book - someone
in Saratoga Springs had posted this
13 minutes earlier, saying: "If you're
not outside, go out and see this."

Melinda Bridges had this
on face book today... We live in a day where faith is critical to survival. Gone are the days of fence sitting. This is our time! We’ve been foreordained to be here on earth during the final inning of mortality. What a ride this inning has been thus far. But I testify, we haven’t seen anything yet! The Lord will show His greatest miracles during our time. We have front row seats to the fulfillment of modern day prophesies. No need to fear. HE knows the beginning to the end. “The Lord isn’t asking us to load up a handcart; He’s asking us to fortify our faith.” @mrussellballard
Our whole premortal life was preparation for our time now. We desired, hoped for, and worked tirelessly to be here now.
He paid the price THEN so that we could be a light to the world NOW!So let’s build our faith, that we may be a light unto the nations!
And on a personal note, I will not stop until the Great Jehovah says the work is done!!

Mom had just come to
live with us in April 2011
when we got called to
leave the country
and help in the
El Salvador San Salvador
Temple for three years.
Julie said: "We'll take Grama."
So from June 2011
to July 26, 2013
Grama A lived with
Julie & John, Jacee,
Jackson, and Maddie.
We can never thank them
enough for all they did for her.
I think they made life a lot more
fun for her than Walt and I
could have. They took her to
the pool, to Corn Bellies at
Thanksgiving Point, and other
exciting places.
Julie & John, Janice and I are
eternally grateful to you and
your kids for your care and
compassion for
Grama A -- especially those
last months that got harder.
until we see you again...
...on resurrection day in
your prime with Daddy, your
Eternal Sweetheart.

...an excerpt from the Life Story of Verna – an Idaho Girl – 1920-2013 Introduction
Gem of the Mountains is the nickname for
Idaho. It’s cold in the mountains in the winter. If this newborn could have had
her druthers, she would have chosen a warmer place and time to enter the world.
January 14, 1920, was frigid in Rigby, Idaho, when Verna Beth was born into the farm family of Ella and Dave Huffaker. She was their first daughter, joining two
older brothers, Morris, 3 1/2, and David, Jr., almost 2.
“I think my spirit got frostbitten on its
way to earth because I’m always cold,” jokes Verna as she begins telling her
story.
Two years before Verna was born, World War
I had ended. Over 21 million people died in a worldwide influenza epidemic
after World War I. That same year Tsar Nicholas II and his family were murdered
in Russia by the revolutionaries. --“Center for Life Stories Preservation” www.storypreservation.com”
On January 10, 1920, four days before Verna
was born, “the League of Nations, the first permanent international body
encompassing many of the nations of the world, was established as the World War
I Treaty of Versailles went into effect.” --Deseret News 1999-2000 Church
Almanac, p. 499.
Here are some locations to pinpoint the
move when Verna was one year old. Rigby is 12 miles northeast of Idaho Falls
and has long winters with short summers. Wendell, 185 miles southwest of Rigby,
was said to have a longer growing season. In Wendell, Verna lived on the
Andrew, Amdal, *Hanson, Simonton, Dean, and Barrett rented places from 1921 to
1937.
Dave was an excellent farmer and irrigator.
He would calcimine [paint] each house they rented so everything would be clean
and bright for Ella and the family. Then when they had a farm and house in
tip-top shape, someone would buy it. They wondered if they would ever be able
to scrape up a down payment to buy a place of their own.
Perhaps this was partly due to the
little-known depression for farmers that started in 1919. History books tell us
all about The Great Depression from 1929 to when World War II brought the
United States out of it in the 1940’s. However, very few history books even
mention the depression that hit the farm states following World War I. It’s
almost as if it were the unmentionable depression.
From 1914 to 1918 the prices were going up
and up and up for farm products. The government encouraged farmers to grow more
and more for the World War I effort and foreign markets. Many Idaho farmers
bought more land and equipment on credit. “As soon as the armistice was signed
with Germany on November 11, 1918, the U.S. government canceled its farm
contracts. By 1920 Europe was producing again, so the U.S. farmers’ markets
dwindled away and the farm prices plummeted. Banks began foreclosing on
farmers.” [Idaho History, Vol. 2, p. 43, Leonard J. Arrington.]
This could be why Verna’s family moved to
so many different farms and why her Dad couldn’t buy a farm of his own until
1938.
These Idaho farm families were struggling
for survival. Ella was a hard worker but there was always more to do for a
large family than the farmer’s wife could get done. Perhaps this is why Verna,
the oldest daughter, was expected to help out so much around the house and
farm.
However, Ella told Dave that as his wife she was not going to be like
some of the farmers’ wives who worked in the fields plus helping in the barn to
milk the cows. And she never did. But she cooked plenty of delicious meals for
her family and many hay and threshing crews, had a garden, canned hundreds
of bottles of fruit, plus baked homemade bread several times a week, and hung
out the cleanest wash in the county!
In addition to Verna and her two older
brothers, Morris, born August 8, 1916, and David, born April 3, 1918, three
more children rounded out the family. Her next younger sibling, Lorraine, was
born June 25, 1925 when Verna was five years old.
Three years later Donald
joined them on October 1, 1928, and then Eleanor was born March 30, 1930. Verna
remembers that when she went to school on April 1st and told her friends she
had a new baby sister, they all chimed: “Sure you do--April fool!"

Family is Everything…at the end of the

It was bought at the

It is very revealing what our Prophet
says is the most important date in our life.
Funeral of Patricia Terry Holland
President
Russell M. Nelson closed the program with his own personal tribute.
“Beloved
Jeffrey, inspiring family, loyal friends, may I speak for all members of the
Church in expressing our sincerest sympathy. We love Pat! I am grateful to all
who have participated in any way in these sacred and unique services for this
wonderful woman and treasured friend.”
“Sister
Patricia Terry Holland is one of a kind. Truly, an elect lady. She occupies a
unique position in our Later-day Saint history. Very few women in this
dispensation have been married to a prophet, seer, and revelator and have
served as a general officer of the Church. Emma Smith and Eliza R. Snow are two
such women and Sister Holland is certainly in that esteemed circle. She also
served as the first lady of Brigham Young University while her husband Jeffery
R. Holland presided there. Sister Holland thus occupied a most unique position
in the annals of the Church’s history. Her remarkable influence upon literally
millions of women and men cannot be overestimated.”
“Sister
Patricia Holland is exactly what a celestial woman looks like. We weep today
for the passing of one so beloved by her family. However, we rejoice because of
the celestial life she lived. At our birth, our spirits were clothed with a
mortal body. That miraculous gift is the first step toward our gaining an
immortal body and qualifying for eternal life. The second step is receiving the
sacred ordinances that allow all of us to make covenants with God, and keeping
those covenants. The third step is death. Death is a gateway along the path of
eternal progress. Though hard for those of us left behind, we know that Sister
Holland’s resurrection is certain and eternal life lies ahead. Death is both a
necessity and a blessing. God’s great plan of happiness requires that each of
us pass through that gateway. Sister Holland’s righteous spirit is now born
again in the paradise of God. She continues on her path to eternal life. In
time, Jeffrey and Patricia will be reunited. They will later be joined by their
beautiful children and their covenant-keeping posterity to experience the
fullest joy that God has in store for his faithful children.
“Knowing
that, we understand that the most important date in Patricia’s life was not her
birth date or her death date. Her most important date was June 7, 1963, when
she and Jeff were sealed in the St. George Temple. This ordinance sealed them
together forever. They have been completely faithful to their promises made to
each other and to their Heavenly Father. Their children were born in that
covenant and have remained totally faithful to that covenant. Why is all of
this so important? Because the very reason the earth was created was so that
families could be formed and sealed to each other. Salvation is an individual
matter, but exhalation is a family matter. No one can be exalted alone.”
“One
day, each of us if worthy shall again see the glorified redeemed exalted, and
perfected Patricia Terry Holland, wife, mother, sister, saint, and daughter of
the living God. He lives. Jesus the Christ, this is his church, restored in its
full to provide the blessing of eternal life for all his worthy sons and
daughters. I so testify in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Saw this on face book.
I don't know if the story is true but I
sure like the
"I wish you enough" part:
"Recently overheard was a father and
daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the
departure.
Standing near the security gate, they
hugged and the father said, 'I love you, and I wish you enough.'
The daughter replied, 'Dad, our life
together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you
enough, too, Dad.'
They kissed and the daughter left. The
Father walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see
he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he
welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it
would be forever?'
'Yes, I have,' I replied. 'Forgive me
for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?'..
'I am old, and she lives so far away.
I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the next trip back will be for my
funeral,' he said.
'When you were saying good-bye, I
heard you say, 'I wish you enough..' May I ask what that means?'
He began to smile. 'That's a wish that
has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to
everyone...'
He paused a moment and looked up as if
trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more. 'When we said, 'I
wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with
just enough good things to sustain them.' Then turning toward me, he shared the
following as if he were reciting it from memory.
I wish you enough sun to keep your
attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate
the sun even more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep
your spirit alive and everlasting.
I wish you enough pain so that even
the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your
wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate
all that you possess.
I wish you enough hellos to get you
through the final good-bye.
He then began to cry and walked away.
They say it takes a minute to find a
special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them; but then an
entire life to forget them.
*TAKE TIME TO LIVE....*
To all my Friends and Family -
*I WISH
YOU ENOUGH*"

funeral,' he said.
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.
He then began to cry and walked away.
They say it takes a minute to find a
special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them; but then an
entire life to forget them.
*TAKE TIME TO LIVE....*
To all my Friends and Family -
*I WISH YOU ENOUGH*"
Church Releases Come Follow Me Manual
For 2024
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has now published the materials it will use for learning in 2024. The focus will be on The Book of Mormon.
The Church stated that, “This resource is for anyone who wants to learn from the Book of Mormon—individually, as a family, and in Church classes. If you haven’t studied the scriptures regularly in the past, this resource can help you get started. If you already have a good habit of scripture study, this resource can help you have more meaningful experiences.”
Unlike the Come Follow Me manuals in the past, the coming year has combined the teachers manual and the individuals and families into a single book.
The Come Follow Me program began at the beginning of 2019. It is designed to create a home-centered, Church-supported approach to learning and teaching the gospel.

We were going to "Oppenheimer"
but the report of nudity in his
affair with his former fianceé
after he married Kitty sounds
too explicit. We'll wait and
watch it online to fast forward
past those parts.

"On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 42% of 162 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.4/10. The website's consensus reads: "Haunted Mansion's talented cast makes the movie a pleasant enough destination, although it's neither scary nor funny enough to wholeheartedly recommend."[48] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 48 out of 100, based on 48 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[49] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of “B+” on an A+ to F scale.[50]
Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian gave the film two out of five stars, and stated, "Lakeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson and Jamie Lee Curtis cannot save this laborious story of a creepy old dwelling and the awful Hatbox Ghost".[51] Peter Debruge of Variety wrote, "While the visual effects are surprisingly weak for a film of this scale, the script proves far better than anyone might expect, establishing an emotional foundation for what might otherwise be a gimmick-driven haunted house movie."[52] Lucas Trevor of The Washington Post wrote, "It’s too dark for a family film, too weightless and juvenile for grown-ups. In a season notable for high-level action spectacle and important auteur projects, Haunted Mansion is not just confused but inconsequential."[53] "
I guess we will see what we think after we see it.
Steve, Gary and I all liked it a lot. Gary said
it followed the Haunted House at Disneyland closely.

Great Plan operational.
At the end of this July 30th,I pray you have had a
restful , peaceful, and spiritual
Sabbath Day...
I share these truths as my testimony to you...
Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence. He loves us just as we are at this very moment. He knows what our potential is.*** *** ***Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.*** *** ***I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead. Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."
*** *** *** *** ***Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration. He is the Restorer of all things.*** *** ***President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world. *** *** ***The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.*** *** ***The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today. Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.*** *** ***Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
