Traces of Time . . . May 22-28, 2023

 TRACES OF TIME . . .

"Time moves slowly, but passes quickly."
“The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

{Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.} On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and posterity to come.

 I had an appointment with

my podiatrist because of

that red spot on my toe.

Brandon did the stats.

Elli, the NP, checked

my toe. She scraped it

to see how deep it is.

She's hoping it is not the

start of an arterial ulcer, because

the pulse in my feet is so low.

She's ordered a TM flow test

for me Friday, May 26, in

their Am Fork Office at

How lucky that this new medical

building at the crossroads of

Pioneer Crossing has both

my podiatrist and dermatologist.

It is a 7-minute drive from my

cozy cottage.

Between the clouds,

the sun did come out.

We learned a lot about

covenants from the

 We have lively and

interesting conversations...

On this side are Faye, Jeanie,

These sisters are fun to

be around and talk to.

Three of us got Quiche.

Others got chicken salad

and other

sandwiches, salads, or soup.

SuzAnne, Shauna, Eileen, Tammy.

Three of us went thru the

Gardens. Susan, the new

gal had never been there

before, so it was heart-warming

to see her excitement at

seeing everything.

There were a few tulips...

...still in bloom...

...but the gardeners

were taking out the tulips

that had fulfilled the measure

of their creation for this season.

Just seeing the trees and

 shrubs is a beautiful sight.

The weather was perfect.

Tammy told us how she loves to take

her grandchildren through the statues

of the Savior and talk about what

each one depicts.

We passed the waterfall

again on the way back.

I thought I got photos of the

serenely white snowballs

and all the fragrant lilacs...

but they will remain picture

memories in my mind.

Thanks Tammy for driving the

golf cart...even to places no

cart has gone before. You

are fearless!

Beauty surrounds us.

Our creator must love us

very much to have provided

this amazing world and its

wonders for us to live on

and enjoy.

My prayer is that I hope I

am a good steward over my

part of it.

It will be the size of a football field.

I don't know how to copy videos

Grandma Vicki got a

which we didn't get last Sunday.

So I gave Jackson his

graduation gift, too, because

I knew he would be so busy

the next day on his

 I had an appointment

with Dr. Kimball.

Gabriella checked me in.

Dr. Kimball said my lungs

sound okay but my cough

could last two more weeks.

My oxygen is normally

92-93. Today it was 91, so

he said I'm good to

go to Idaho tomorrow.

The highlight of today is

JACKSON'S GRADUATION.

Fun sign.

This afternoon Gary

drove me to American Fork

to an appointment at

Dr. Rogers' office there

for a TM flow test.

Mariah did the test.

We had an early supper

at the Black Bear Diner

in American Fork.

Then we went to...

...Smith's in Saratoga Springs

...to buy the mums for

decorating the graves tomorrow.

SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2023

                    Family is Everything…

Gary and I are leaving here

at 7:30 for Idaho to put

flowers on 50 family graves

in three cemeteries in Idaho:

Albion, Hagerman, and Wendell.

We also have two family graves

in Utah at Camp Williams.

Aunt Tess Prescott Julian

was a Wave in World War II.

Uncle Austin Julian was

a fighter pilot in World War II,

and the Korean War.

We honor and revere all who

have kept our country free.

This landmark barn is exactly

100 miles from Burley...

It's at mile marker 34,

which is 7 miles from Tremonton.

Grama A always wanted to

paint a picture of this old barn.

We were surprised to

see a purple jeep.

We got to the Albion Cemetery

at 11:20...10 Albertson

graves there...

Charles Albertson is the

oldest son of my

Great Grandfather Charles...

Uncle Charlie named one

of his sons after his

brothers Clarence

and Dean.

Clarence is my grandfather.

We were surprised that

the rosebush had been

taken out.

Gary cleans the headstones

before we place the flowers.

The headstone on the

right is for Charles and

his wife MaryAnn Albertson.

Charles was in the Civil War

at age 18...

 Albertson graves...

This is a separate one for

Mary Ann Hepworth Albertson.

My Grandfather

Clarence Albertson

just has this small plaque.

It was windy and chilly.

I had brought this jacket because

Janice had told me it was

forecast to be rainy and cool.

Gary takes good photos...

...at each cemetery.

As we got in the car,

it started to rain.

Gary kept track of our mileage

from Albion to Burley: 15 miles.

Rendezvousing with

Kathleen Hedberg in

Burley at 12:15 noon.

She had arranged for me to

come and get some of her books.

"A Flood Cannot Happen Here"

she had written and published

in 19__ about the miracles

from May 1984 that saved

Burley from being under water.

Amy, one of

Gary's friends from his

older Single Adult Group

in Utah County, was also in Burley

to put flowers on family graves

in Burley and Albion.

So we had lunch together

at the Dairy Queen.

Then we drove to 150 East

to see the Burley Temple.

It's still a marvel to us that

Burley has a temple being built!

Groundbreaking was just a

year ago -- June 4, 2022

Gary then drove us the

60 miles on west to the

Hagerman Cemetery.

By then we had driven

300 miles.

My phone had not recharged

so I didn't get any photos

on my camera at Hagerman.

Gary will send me the photos

he took.

We have 11 family graves here.

My Grandmother,

Blanche Ilene Hartwell Albertson.

I am named after her.

Three of her five sons:

Warren and his wife Vida.

Tom and his wife Maxine.

Jack -- who was injured and

was in the VA Hospital in SLC

for about 20 years.

He never married.

The two sons of Warren & Vida:

David - drowned at age 2 in Hagerman.

Wayne died of a brain tumor,

in his 50's I think.

Then on Walt's side we have

Walt's sister

Bonnie's two sons--

Larry Smith, Brent Smith

and her first husband,

Maurice "Mutt" Smith.

Here are some Hagerman

Cemetery photos from the past...

Wendell Cemetery

Last year...

This year...

We pulled in to the

Wendell Cemetery exactly

at 4:00...my favorite time of day.

We had 29 family graves

to put flowers on.

My eternal sweetheart--

Walter Ray Petersen

April 17, 1934 to

August 21, 2020 - age 86.

My Mom's parents:

Dave & Ella Huffaker

My parents:

Arnold & Verna Albertson

David & Enid Huffaker.

Walt's Aunt Lucile Petersen

His step-father--

Lawrence Hashman

and Lawrence's

first wife Reatha Despain Hashman.

And Walt's step-grandmother--

Mary Briggs Carlson Petersen

Here is Mary at age 90.

She became a widow for

the second time when Andrew

was killed in a car accident

in 1938. They had married

in 1928 after Nellie Katie

died, and her husband,

Parley Carlson had died.

Mary told me once: "I guess the

Lord knew we were starting to

love each other too much. We

were sealed to our first spouses."

She had the most delightful

English accent. I loved to hear

her talk. She hade a fun,

fiesty personality, like

Walt's sister Bonnie.

Walt's headstone...

Gary and I called ourselves "the keepers of the tradition" and put flowers on 2 graves at Camp Williams, then in Idaho: on 10 at the Albion Cemetery, 11 at the Hagerman Cemetery, and 29 at the Wendell Cemetery in thirteen hours round trip of 600 miles.

Thanks, Gary, for doing all that driving. We had rain off and on, but never while placing the flowers--which we considered a blessing from heaven. And we saw the most amazing rainbows!

*** *** *** *** *** *** ***

 We finished at 5:00 --

one hour there, then arrived

home in Saratoga Springs

at 9:15, a little over

13 hours and 600 miles.

 We stopped at Snowville

for supper--Gary got pizza,

and I had a corndog.

More amazing rainbows

in Utah, also.

It was good to see the

 skyline of the Oquirrh

Mountains when we turned

onto the Bangerter Highway

at sunset.

** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this May 28th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
Daily Scripture: Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. - Matthew 25:13
Daily Quote: More than ever before, we are required to confront the reality that we are getting ever closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. - Christoffel Golden

I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."

Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.

President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.

Here's something he has said:

*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.
