Tammy gave a touching introduction
about art and  then had Judy tell
us about three of her favorite
paintings by Cliff.
Tammy, I loved, loved, loved what you said
about art and art appreciation and about
Heavenly Father's and Christ's appreciation and
love of art in their creating of  this beautiful earth
for us to live on.
If you could write it down, I'd love to add it to
this part. Thank you for helping us all be more
aware of the beauty around us and to learn
to appreciate art--for those of us who are not artists.
Judy said Cliff loved nature
She told about the day Cliff rushed in
all excited and had her come with him
to where he had seen some white owls.
He painted them there and then.
This was at the crossroads of
Redwood Road and Pioneer Crossing...
before the latter existed and there was
hardly any traffic.
This is that painting--

Tammy and Mark are such great hosts.
Judy and Tammy
Before Tammy had Judy tell us about three of
her favorite paintings of Cliff's, she talked about
art and art appreciation. She said her dream was
to be able to show beautiful art in her home. People
don't go to art shows anymore and she is sad about that.
Our beautiful earth shows that the Creators --
Elohim and His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ --
loved beauty. We aren't just born with
"art appreciation" but it can be learned.
Tonight, in addition to Cliff's beautiful art work,
we all appreciated the beauty
in Mark and Tammy's home that they have been working on for 8 years...
and are not finished yet, she said.
Here is just a glimpse of the
lovely Thanksgiving and Autumn decor
in their home that
are highlighting the current season.

Mark is standing by Bryant at the beautiful
front door. I kept trying to take a photo of
the exquisite tile work on the floor of the
entry way...but someone was always
standing on it.  Tammy designed it.
I thought she had done the beautiful leaded glass work in the doors.
She said she did the
higher parts of the glass,
and her teacher did
the eye-view level parts.

Glass pumpkins...
"Happy Thanksgiving" blocks...

Heather asked me to take a photo of the
charming kitchen sink faucet. Her sister
is trying to find a fun faucet for her sink,
so Heather is going to send her this photo.

Gary had surgery for his broken ankle
this morning.

Institute 10:00-11:15 every Tuesday                                                         Today was the beginning of a new course:
"The Parables of Christ"

Institute Friends,

We've completed, Saints Volume 1, and while we wait for an Institute curriculum for Saints Volume 2 we are going to dive into the Parables of Jesus as our new course curriculum.

“Jesus Christ was the greatest teacher who ever taught,” declared President Spencer W. Kimball (1895–1985). One of the Savior’s most striking teaching methods was His use of parables. Concerning the parables of Jesus, President Howard W. Hunter (1907–95) said: “They are so simple a child can understand, yet profound enough for the sage and philosopher. …
“Each of the parables spoken by the Savior seems to teach a principle or give an admonition regarding the attributes necessary to qualify for exaltation.”
(Judd, Frank F. Jr., Ensign.  January, 2003.)
So, “come and see,” what Jesus has in store for you!
Lesson 1: Introduction to the Parables
Matthew 13:13–15; Mark 4:12, 33–34; Luke 8:10; Bible Dictionary, “Parables.”
“Parables of the Master,”
Ensign, July 2007, 40–43.
See you on Tuesday!

 Family is Everything…
Armistice Day also known as Veteran's Day
For

I am thankful for the
Veterans in our family...
Walt's Uncle Tom
Prescott joined the Navy in 1942...right
after war was declared. I think Tom and Marge had been
married in Dec 1940...so they'd been married just over
one year and had a baby daughter. Marge, and
his mother, Maria(h) didn't want him to join.
He told his nephew, Walt: "Some things a
man just has to do that women don't understand."
Toward the end of the war he was stationed
at Sun Valley which had become a
rehab center. He was an Instructor of
Physical Therapy to help with
the rehab of the wounded sailors.
*** *** ***
The Army wouldn't let my Dad join because
he had flat feet. They erroneously thought then
that men with flat feet couldn't march far distances.
So he helped build ships for the Navy at the
Long Beach, California Ship Yards.
Here is my Dad and Mom and me in 1943 in
Long Beach, California
My Dad's brother Tom Albertson served
in the Navy during World War II.
My Mom's brother, David Huffaker,
was a pilot in WWII. He flew over
the hump in India taking supplies
to the Flying Tigers. He brought his
Dad & Mom a small replica of
the Taj Mahal.
 My Mom's brother, Don Huffaker,
was a Marine - 1946 into the 1950s.
My Dad's Grandfather,
Charles Henry Albertson, Sr., 1845-1911
enlisted in the Civil War at age 18, Aug 1862.
Civil War Enlistment Papers - Charles Henry Albertson
August 15, 1862 -  He said he was 18.
But his birth date says April 5, 1845,
so he would have only been 17 yrs 4 mos and 10 days
old on August 15, 1862.
{So it looks like he may have lied about his
age to join the army to be a soldier
in the Civil War}
Here is a full-length photo of him
in his uniform and full sword.

Veterans
And in the posterity of
Walt & Eileen Petersen we
have two grandchildren serving
in the military right now:
Michael is with the
U.S. Air Force and is a Captain.
Michael and Aimee
Our grandson, Daniel, is serving
in the U.S. Air Force, and is a Captain, also.
He received his M.D. degree from
U.S.U. Uniformed Services University
of the Health Services.
...and is now serving in a 4-year
Psychiatry Residency...
Daniel and his wife Kelly.
Janie and Shawn went to his graduation.
Kimble is serving in the Coast Guard as a
rescue swimmer, stationed in Kodiak, Alaska.
There are probably others in our family who are veterans.
I'll do some further searching.
I'm thankful for all Veterans who have kept
our United States of America strong and free!

Today I had an appointment with
my podiatrist, Dr. Scott Rogers who
has moved to the new medical building
at 62 East Thrive Drive, Suite 310.
It is next to the Excel Medical Building
that is just east of the Intersection
of Red Wood Road and Pioneer Crossing.
I came out the back way of our residential
area and turned left at the police station,
then right just past Patriot Park and
some electrical towers, through
the Wander Homes development
being built, to the stop light then
straight north across Pioneer Crossing
and there it is.
