Family is Everything…
Walt's sister, Phyllis Bunn, passed away 6 years ago,
August 3, 2014.
We had just flown from San Salvador to Utah
for the wedding of our g-daughter, Kelsey Petersen
to Josh Taylor, on July 31, returning to
San Salvador the next day.

Phyllis had beautiful red hair.
Phyllis and Dale were married on
July 31, 1950 in the
Portland Rose Garden.

This is how I imagine them
in heaven together.

Walt's brother Dale and Connie brought
Phyllis to see Walt on his
80th birthday - April 17, 2014
It's the last time Walt saw his sister.
Thank you, Dale and Connie, for bringing
her to Utah.

This was at Uncle Dean's funeral
in March 2005. Phyllis and Dale
are with cousins Ed and Linda Prescott.

Phyllis is with her g-daughter Rebecca Bunn
and her sister-in-law, Ruth Bunn Lackey.
Donna Rae Bunn, also has beautiful red hair like
her grandmother Phyllis had.

Phyllis, with her brother Dale

to Walt's graduation from the
University of Idaho - June 1959
Phyllis, her brother Dale, and my Mom, Verna Albertson,
came to visit us in the Yucatan when
Walt was president of the Mexico Merida Mission.
We were getting gas for the 4-hour drive back
to Merida from a zone conference in Chetumal.
Most of the gas stations had modern pumps,
except this one.
The bottom photo is when we were in Cancun
at a folk dance program.

Phyllis, age 4, is on front row 3rd from left
to her right is her sister Bonnie, age 6,
and to Bonnie's right in a white dress is
my Aunt Eleanor Huffaker, age 6.
My Aunt Eleanor named one of her
daughters "Bonnie Jean" after two
Wendell classmates:
Bonnie Petersen and
Jean Gates.
Close up of Phyllis from above photo.

(Eleanor is my Mom's youngest sister.)
Phyllis carried on what her Mom had tried
to get for Wendell for years -- a swimming pool
and a baseball park. This article tells about
the McGinnis Park. I don't know how much the
pool cost, but it was done without federal funds.
On Memorial Day weekend of 2019,
Adam scrubbed the headstone for
his great-Aunt Phyllis when we
went to put flowers to remember her.
Dale was laid beside Phyllis at the Wendell Idaho Cemetery when he passed away on April 17, 2020 at age 91.
Their six children's names are listed opn the back of their headstone:
Donald Ray
Matthew Allen
Mitchell William
Max Clifford
Brenda Gay
Beverly May
Walt age 50 - 1984
...this random photo of Walt just
popped up. It's nice to remember
him in his prime.
We have an appointment with our
podiatrist this morning--Dr. Scott Rogers.
Thanks for taking us, Gary.
Gary also took us through the car wash.
We got raspberry shakes at Arctic Circle. Delicious!
But Gary got a peanut butter one.
Yuck, I say!
Karen, Walt's long-term hospice
nurse, comes every
Monday and Thursday.
Thanks, Karen.
We watched an interesting movie today.
Seven Years in Tibet
True story about Heinrich Harrer
and his time with the 14th Dalai Lama in Tibet.
Information from Wikipedia:
"In 1938, Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer (Brad Pitt)...joins Peter Aufschnaiter (David Thewlis) in a team attempting to summit Nanga Parbat in the British Raj (present-day part of Pakistan). When World War II begins in 1939, they are arrested by the authorities for being enemy aliens and imprisoned in a prisoner-of-war camp in Dehradun in the Himalayan foothills, in the present-day Indian state of Uttarakhand.
In 1944, Harrer and Aufschnaiter escape the prison and cross into Tibet. After being initially rejected by the isolated nation, they manage to travel in disguise to the Tibetan capital city of Lhasa. There... Harrer is invited to the Potala Palace and becomes the 14th Dalai Lama's (Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk) tutor in English, world geography, science, and Western culture."
Harrer returns to Austria in 1951, but goes back several times to Tibet. He remains friends with the Dalai Lama until his death at age 93 on January 7, 2006. The Dalai Lama is still alive...I think in his 80s (I'll have to look it up again.)
Family is Everything…
I took a photo of the jeweled
"plague doctor" mask for Jackson's
Westlake Marching Band routine.
(I deleted photo in case it's
not supposed to be public yet.)
Walt and I enjoy being together withthe family at supper time...
which our kids and g-kids call
dinner time.
Julie has this on the board for July-August. It may be us with grandkids at the
Cassia County Fair...
Maddie, Jackson, Heidi, Sam, Ashley,
Michael, and Sam?
How they grow in 12 years!
This is afternoon...This is at sunset tonight 8:39 p.m.WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2020
