Marcia Ogden posted on face book
that--excepting the scriptures--
this is the best book she
has ever read.
I trust her judgement so much,
I am going to choose this for
our Sibling Book Club when
it's my turn in August.

“You must not let the haters of this world divert you from the path of your own duty. For the time will come when the haters will have been consumed by their own hatred, and the ignorant will have learned the truth. And then, if you are prepared for it, you will walk the earth as free men, the equal of any other man. . .

"He was simply incapable of hatred, no matter what the provocation . . . And, of course, at the bottom, he believed as Booker T. Washington did, that a racist was to be pitied for his blind brutality. And he said, as Washington so often had, that, “No man can drag me down so low as to make me hate him.”

"His work was his life, and by not diluting it with wrathful forays against the ignorance of prejudice he was able to make his own unique and most vital contribution to racial amity. He saved the South from poverty—an even more malignant foe of his people than Jim Crow. . ."

...this is back on June 2, 2019 when
Riggy was just 4.
We had a laid back day today.
Walt woke early and came and sat in the
living room for a while. He was having
some hallucinations. When I woke up at 8:45
and found him in his office chair, he said
he'd been sitting out here since six o'clock.
He hadn't eaten very much yesterday, so
after I got him eggs 'n bacon 'n toast,
he went back to sleep about ten o'clock
till Marci came at 11:10.
 "Bye.  See you Thursday..."

Richard Stanley Eaton
April 23, 1928 ~ May 30, 2020 (age 92)

Richard Eaton, 92 a resident of Wendell, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Wendell.
Richard Stanley Eaton, was born on April 23, 1928 to Fred W. Eaton and Faeth Amerette Vetsch Eaton in Wendell, Idaho.
Richard attended Wendell schools graduating in 1946. In his teenage years, he worked after class at the Wendell Irrigationist newspaper where he learned several skills that he would put to good use later in life. After graduating high school, he and three friends joined the Army and served his country in Japan.  He was stationed at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo where he was responsible for safely transporting high-ranking officers in his Jeep. After being honorable discharged from the Army, he returned home and attended business school in Salt Lake City where he met his future wife - Veloy McMillan.
He and Veloy returned to Wendell where they married on October 21, 1951 making their home in the same house where Richard was born on East Avenue A. In 1967 they moved to their current home on North Idaho Street. He then returned to co-own and work as a typesetter and printer at the Wendell Irrigationist newspaper and later worked at the Northside News in Jerome. In 1964 he and Veloy obtained the contract to operate the school buses for the Wendell schools as the Hub City Bus Company for 42 years. They safely transported three generations of Wendell families to school, sporting events, ski trips, field trips and many other school activities. They loved their jobs and their passengers, while promoting responsibility, good behavior and respect.
Always supportive parents, they never missed a sporting event, concert or any event in which their children participated. As the children became adults and had families of their own, their support never wained.
Richard learned to fly in a Piper Cub in the 1950s and after all his children had left home, bought a used Cessna 172 and spent many hours flying around the Magic Valley. He and Veloy traveled the United States extensively in their motorhome and also made several trips overseas. However, they were happiest when surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
Richard was predeceased by: his parents; sister - Charmion Amadeio; brother – Robert; and daughter-in-law - Jan Rumsey Eaton.
He is survived by: his wife - Veloy, three sons - Brandon of Boise, Michael (Judie) of Midway, Utah and Curtis (Pam) of Maui, Hawaii; two daughters - Jeri Vanderzwaan (Jim) of Monterey, California and Janette Larson (Fred) of Wendell. He has 14 grandchildren - Stephanie Kelly, Kristen Bruce, Cole Eaton, Chad Eaton, Cody Eaton, Scott Eaton, Travis Eaton, Alisa Jahn, Ashlee Lau, Nicholas Larson, Eric Larson, Jennifer Anderson, Kellen Eaton and Ariel Eaton; and many great-grandchildren.
One of his grandsons described him best, “We will never look at school buses, handlebar mustaches, and Old Spice the same. Today we lost one of the most caring, ornery, supportive and giving men around.”  He will be missed by many.
Special thanks go to our sister - Jan, for taking dad to doctor appointments, the barber shop, grocery store and to visit mom nearly every day after she was admitted to assisted living. Thanks also to his doctors, his caregivers Winnie S and Willy Q who cooked and cared for him at home, Auburn Crest Hospice and the wonderful staff at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Wendell who have taken excellent care of our parents.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no chapel funeral.
However there  will be visitation and viewing at Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel in Wendell on Friday, June 5, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Please respect social distancing guidelines.
A graveside service at the Wendell Cemetery on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Richard’s name to the Wendell American Legion or the Wendell Methodist Church.
To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Richard Stanley Eaton, please visit our floral store.
